We us Constant Contact to manage our contact database and to send out email updates. It is great for segmenting our list -- from general interest to communications to fundraising. The automated features are great, especially that it will not allow the same email to appear in the same inbox twice. It also merges duplicate contacts. We use it across the entire organization.
  • Merging duplicate contacts
  • Updating your address book
  • Giving a reliable open rate and thorough reports
  • Allowing you to segment large email lists
  • When uploading additional contacts, CC wants to see how they actively subscribed. This can be problematic when uploading an older email list (i.e. you may just have a spreadsheet of the list and they want to see more evidence).
  • It is a little pricey compared to competitors such as MailChimp.
  • It would be great to be able to export email campaigns as HTML.
Be extremely careful when importing contacts. Constant Contact wants to see how they actively subscribed. Sometimes it is hard to prove this when you have entered information for people you have an established relationship with, or if they verbally requested to be added. Constant Contact wants to actually see the (paper) sign-up sheet. This is unachievable for businesses/groups that have been around long enough to have established an email list based on personal relationships or when importing business cards.
  • Great in getting out press releases.
  • Great for managing a large contact database.

Much better in managing your contact database and ensuring that the same email is not sent to the same contact more than one time. Also gives a more thorough report of open rates, times, etc. than MailChimp. Allows for more formatting options than MailChimpp and other competitors. A bit more pricey, but worth it for the analytics.

This is the only one I have used and I love it!!
They handle all the marketing for all four of our properties.
1
I feel that an average person can use constant contact. It is very easy to use. I myself have a strong computer and graphic arts background which makes it even easier for me to use.
  • We use constant contact to send out email blasts for all of our properties.
  • We use constant contact to keep all of our email addresses that we receive from our guests and to categorize them.
  • We use constant contact to get any promotions or coupons we have going on. To announce upcoming entertainment or anything else any of our properties want to share with our guests.
  • We really use it for its intended purpose. However, I love the social media share feature which I can use to schedule facebook posts in advance.
  • I am not sure exactly. We could take advantage of more features that constant contact has like. We could use it to create a survey.
As I stated constant contact gets the job done and delivers our message and brand to our customers and it is very easy to use and maintain.

This single most factor in our decision was its ease of use and price. Customer Service is great also.
I would not change anything. I looked for a product like this and found it.

  • I just started using it and it was easy. Bottom Line!!!

No
We usually try to cut costs where we can and find out answers online if possible. If depends though if it is a program we have like our catering and takeout software. We would have to buy a tech support plan.
Every single time I have a question or concern I call Constant Contact and they answer quickly and they always have the correct answers and get me where I need to be. They have outstanding customer support.
No
The other day I had a question about deleting customers that have unsubscribed from my contact list. I called and they helped me fix it right away.
  • I think it is very easy to use the templates provided with constant contact. They have enough to choose from.
  • It is very very easy to import graphics into an email.
  • It is extremely easy to create a link to an outside website.
  • I think constant contact is easy to use all the way around. Maybe it could be just a little easier to maintain your contacts.
Yes
I have not used this feature yet.
It is just easy to use.

  • Simple email marketing for small businesses
  • Great for the SMB that needs email marketing but can't afford a Marketing Automation Platform (MAP)
  • Integration with Salesforce is pretty good
  • Well, it's not a MAP, so if you want to do anything targeted it's all manual
  • They are super strict about uploading lists, and if you upload too many people at one time or give the list a name they deem to be suspicious, they'll suspend your account almost immediately
  • The last time I used Constant Contact, there had been no email marketing for at least a year. So even reintroducing email marketing helped to drive engagement.
Constant Contact is one of the best email marketing platforms out there for small businesses. I love Marketing Automation, and would prefer a MAP over Constant Contact any day of the week, but if a MAP simply isn't in the budget, Constant Contact will definitely help you leverage your content and reach your audience.
  • Email marketing
iContact
Constant Contact and Vertical Response were on my shortlist. Ultimately I chose Constant Contact because of budget and functionality.
  • Implemented in-house
It's pretty easy to implement.
  • Self-taught
I love learning new things, and I pick up programs fairly easily. I tend to be self-taught, but what works for me won't always work for someone else. That being said, Constant Contact isn't exactly the most complicated program in the world, so I think that for most people a self-taught approach could work very well.
Constant Contact's customer service and support is hit or miss. Sometimes I would get great support, others the support was definitely lacking. Some of their support folks are incredibly nice and understanding, and others seem like they're constantly having a bad day.

  • We used the product to send simple email newsletters with little customization.
  • Some very basic metrics around click-throughs etc. but they offer very little insight.
  • Give good reporting. Reporting is very basic and not really adequate for enterprise use.
  • It gives the overall click through rate, but not the unique click through rate. The same is true for open rate.
  • There is no filtering for bounces or being marked as spam. You would have to look at your reporting and manually extract those individuals.
  • Also, it would be great if it gave a link overview with your click rate in ratio to the links in your email. For instance 7% CTR on an email, 5% was on the call to action, and 2% was on the unsubscribe, etc.
  • Email customizations. Although they do offer a range of different email templates, they are generally not very attractive and are very difficult to customize; there is very litte scope for changing the format.
  • We wanted to send newsletters mentioning promotions or company events to our customer base. It did this effectively enough at a very basic level.
There were two major issues, reporting and deliverability.

- I felt that the reporting was lacking.

- The IP addresses that the emails were sending from were blacklisted due to others sender scores affecting everyone's sender score. "The Constant Contact Effect". Some ISP’s block Constant Contact out of hand and there is almost nothing you can do to get your emails delivered to those recipients, even if they have added your address to an “approved” list.

One developer.
  • To send email newsletters to customer base.
No
None. First platform.
  • Implemented in-house
Implementation is very easy for someone who wants to send out the “batch and blast” type newsletters. If you want to use their templates with no customizations, the product works fine. However, the more customizations you get into involving link color, etc, that’s where things can get tricky for someone who may not be familiar with coding.
  • Self-taught
Yes, it was easy to learn. They have the email creation in a step by step process with instructions and templates.
No
They didn't really have any formal customer service which was problematic. There were help FAQ’s and you could submit a support ticket. Other than that, there was no premium support and no way to get phone support.
Product has a really terrible user interface. They need to list things out in steps: Step 1, import contacts. Step 2, design email, Step 3, send.

Within each step, there should be sub-steps and links to FAQ or a how-to document. You have to navigate away from the page you are on in order to learn how to work the feature.
No issues with downtime.
The system seemed quite slow sometimes. Specifically, there was sometimes a delay in sends if it was during a high traffic period. There were time-outs when uploading new code for an email, and a lag in reporting analytics which was sometimes as long as 72 hours.
It was easy to sign up. You created an account and set up the billing type and frequency package. Everything was handled automatically.
