Our marketeers use ContentKing to safeguard the SEO quality of our landing pages. At the same time ContentKing provides instant monitoring of platform issues, which is very convenient to keep an eye on the impact of platform releases. Our company manages a portfolio of 42 websites, so a tool that can monitor easily across different domains is essential for us.
  • Instant e-mail alerts for issues and changes
  • Simple to use user interface
  • Fast loading speed
Cons
  • A more diverse pricing plan would be great, so you can pick and choose which PRO options you want to include
In companies where you work with multiple websites, regular output of new content, multiple teams/marketeers, ContentKing can help create order in the chaos.

Content King does two things for us, it continuously monitors client websites and provides us with crawl data as well as spotting changes. It also plugs into other APIs such as Google Search Console and Google Analytics to bring data back into our reporting.
  • Monitoring webpages
  • Finding Broken Links
  • Discovering SEO issues
  • Segmenting page types
Cons
  • It is a single host only, which means that if your website spans mulitple subdomains it falls down
  • It isn't as easy to control as desktop crawlers, the continuous nature means you can't just give it a set of URLs to monitor.
  • Some of the issues it highlights aren't always issues, and so you need an expert user
The times when [ContentKing] is most useful is when working with migrations, or changing dynamic websites that you want to continuously monitor fix and rapidly resolve issues. Because you can share URLs to key issues and create segments out of them it is very easy to highlight issues. Because it isn't charged a per user level this does mean you can give access to clients and their development teams.

Content King has saved us a few times, highlighting issues that would have caused a decline in SEO performance, such as: - We accidentally blocked one of our sites from being crawled by search engines via the robots.txt file - An error caused canonical tags to change pointing to redirect URLs - During website migration Title tags changed from what they were previously Without ContentKing, we any have not noticed any of these until we randomly stumbled across them. With ContentKing we get notified within hours.
  • Real time crawling.
  • Issue alerts.
  • Change monitoring.
  • History Tracking.
Cons
  • Compared to other website crawlers, Content King is somewhat lacking in the number of different things it can check for. However, the real-time crawling and alerting is what sets this apart from the others.
Monitoring large websites for changes that could effect SEO Performance.

We are currently using ContentKing for real-time monitoring of our sites (medium size sites). It comes very handy when you don't want to spend time crawling your sites every week to detect any issues. With that tool, you will be aware of any changes your dev team made, as well as your content teams. If your dev team added a no-index tag by mistake, you will instantly be notified. It also notifies us from server issues that we usually can't track with regular crawling tools.
  • Real-time monitoring, instant notifications
  • No installation needed
  • Slack integration
Cons
  • Keeping track of all the alerts
  • Definition of some alerts could be improved
ContentKing is well suited if your are managing different blogs or ecommerce stores and you need to keep an eye on any changes made. Good pricing structure based on the number of pages you have. You will be sure that you’re monitoring your sites effectively and staying on top of problems before they occur.

Must-have SEO software

Rating: 10 out of 10

At SmartRanking, we're enthusiastic and intensive users of ContentKing. We're currently using ContentKing with all the colleagues at our company, most of the time daily. ContentKing solves multiple problems for us. Among these problems solved are: proactive monitoring of our customer's websites, identifying technical issues, and exporting page-specific data (so we can optimize pages based on this data).
  • Proactive monitoring of the website on a broad spectrum of on-page and technical issues.
  • Insights for page-specific action points based on different data streams.
  • Identifying technical and on-page website issues.
Cons
  • Because the platform is built using a lot of JavaScript, it's sometimes a bit slow, and it will use a lot of RAM.
  • The basic plans don't support JavaScript.
It's really well suited for most kinds of SEO optimizations. The scenarios we use are already described above. So, we're using it mainly for:
  • The monitoring of websites (for SEO changes that happen at that very moment).
  • Identifying all kinds of SEO issues (e.g., broken internal links).
  • Exporting data for page optimizations.
