Cornerstone OnDemand (CSOD) is used across the whole organization for employees and contractors alike. It is used for compliance training, safety training, some on the job training, and performance reviews. We are currently working to expand the training catalog in order to leverage CSOD for career improvement, in conjunction with a career framework that is being created for the whole organization
  • Assigning Training - easy to use, customizable assignment process
  • The end user interface is intuitive and easy to use
  • Documentation/help resources for administrators is very good
  • The Performance module lags behind Learning in terms of new features and ease of use
  • Learner Home is great but not a true LXP, which is what many companies are moving toward. Things like the lack of xAPI reporting within the general reporting function are a big limitation.
  • The system is intuitive for end users but not always for administrators. Things like Group administration are not very flexible and can be cumbersome.
  • Clients should be able to report on basically any field in the system. Things like instructor reporting, reporting on group criteria, security role reporting are veryy limited and make auditing and governance difficult.
  • Well suited for mid-sized to larger companies - may be expensive for small companies
  • Companies with a heavy need for computer-based training (compliance or otherwise) and basic automation
  • Companies who have dedicated IT/dev support can leverage access to the Cornerstone OnDemand (CSOD) APIs for customization of certain functions - smaller companies with less support/smaller budget will struggle to use these more complex options

We are huge users from an LMS standpoint. We create content that we even sell to other similar pet care industries or users. We are always on the leading edge of beta testing and using the latest functionalities that CSOD produces. Our hospitals are in constant need of training whether it is for current knowledge or for career development and we use the Performance module in combination to further make that happen.

  • Constantly updating their system on a quarterly basis.

  • Many avenues to get answers besides fellow community experts
  • Certain areas have not been updated since initial launch and feel forgotten
  • Faster response time for submitted questions.
  • Do not remove what works well with new features. Add on vs removing unless what is being removed does not work well
They are great when it comes to LMS. Now that they purchased Saba that means they truly lead in that field. Their performance module works fantastic for your needs and plays extremely well with LMS. They have all the tools necessary to have the life cycle of your employees have a successful time in their job if the system is used to it's full potential.

We were struggling with employees consistently meeting their course assignment deadlines. Our company needed a way to track the regulatory courses assigned to all of our employees. We purchased [Cornerstone OnDemand] in 2016 for that purpose. Since we began using [Cornerstone OnDemand], we have been able to successfully manage all course assignments and no employees have been late in completing their courses. The best part - [Cornerstone OnDemand] has become a major part of our efforts to shift our learning culture to focus beyond just regulatory training.
  • We have been beyond thrilled with the level of customer service we receive. On the rare occasion that something doesn't work like we've anticipated, or if we have questions, we have multiple CSOD resources supporting our journey.
  • We are really happy with the learning suite. The Learner Home page and the various carousels provide an engaging experience for our learners.
  • We've been really happy with the updates they've made to Reporting 2.0. It's made it a lot easier for us to provide the level of information our executives are looking for.
  • [Cornerstone OnDemand] does a great job of bringing their customers together. This allows us to collaborate with other [Cornerstone OnDemand] users and learn from their experience.
  • We are really impressed with the functionality in their Performance and Career products! Unfortunately, it's cost prohibitive for us. A lower cost structure for organizations with fewer employees would be appreciated and would allow us to expand the products we use with [Cornerstone OnDemand].
The Learning product has fantastic functionality. A potential area to explore are the integration points between [Cornerstone OnDemand] and your other HR systems. We use ADP for our HRIS and have a daily feed that updates [Cornerstone OnDemand], but it's not as seamless as we would like.

We are a retail grocery organization with 80% undesked, frontline workers. 20% of our employees support with distribution and supply chain, technology and merchandising. There is a vast array of quality assurance, food safety, and sustainably sourcing experts who support the excellence of our products in our stores. Our Cornerstone content ranges from new member onboarding, operations, product management and leadership topics to program management and microsoft tools.
  • Express Class allows rapid course tracking in batch, available for mobile.
  • Security is complicated but manageable to provide a variety of permissions to different user sets.
  • System Preferences provide tremendous customization options for every organization's particular instance.
  • On the Job Training allows for training in the flow of work.
  • Learner App for mobile does not allow every training type yet.
  • Certification training type is clunky.
  • Assessments are outdated but the new beta for the test platform is awesome.
Cornerstone is well suited as an LMS for compliance, however it is also rapidly developing LXP type features such as playlists and suggested learning AI for learner home carousels that will provide the user more and more with the ability to shape their own learning experience. It all depends how the org configures their portal as the potential to enable these LXP features is entirely up to the company administratively.

It is currently being used by the entire enterprise. This includes all Employees, Contingent Workers, Dealers, Service Partners, etc. We use it for a centralized place for Learning, both compliance and departmental specific training. It is one of our main LMSs used. Being decentralized a bit, there are now other systems that are used in conjunction with Cornerstone OnDemand.

We moved from an on-premise LMS years ago and switched to Cornerstone. Being in the cloud was a much better solution than what we had. It was nice to always stay up to date with the software's latest version, etc. So Cornerstone does well in that aspect. However, it lacks some of the full-fledged Admin functionality/usability that other LMSs have. We had to adapt quite a bit and give up quite a bit in that aspect to gain the benefits of using Cornerstone. It was an adjustment, but we learned to go with it. Having over 100k users in the system, it just sometimes is NOT very easy to perform tasks that you'd think an LMS should do very basically and by default. Probably never an issue for smaller companies using it though.

Cornerstone OnDemand is used in HR but all employees access it for Performance Management. I use it solely for Recruiting and Hiring Managers also use the recruiting feature.
  • Sorry, [I feel] I honestly can't find something they do "particularly well".
  • All of their recruiting features are "hard to use" - the steps to follow are cumbersome, clunky, frustrating...beginning with setting up processes, to using the features, to providing feedback.
  • [I feel like it is] missing functionality: there's a lot to list, but let me start off with a few: cannot sort candidates alphabetically; cannot automatically allow managers access to "manage candidate" view; cannot integrate emails with Outlook; cannot adjust offer letter template to match the flow for data entry; cannot just search for open reqs without manually adjusting date range; cannot run "standard" recruiting reports to capture YTD open reqs, closed reqs with names of candidates who filled roles with their start dates; cannot easily run a report that shows candidates by demographics by interview funnel...
  • [I feel that] the MOST frustrating aspect of Cornerstone OnDemand is the process to address problems. As a user, I cannot just call a help desk, I must either work through my administrator OR sign up for a weekly one hour session, but ONLY IF, you first demonstrate that you a) have taken training or b) have used the help feature. THEN you log in and are placed in a queue, where you can see / hear each and every problem that other clients have AND they can hear yours. You are allowed to ask ONE question, and then you are returned to the queue to wait again. When you are given an answer, links are dropped in the chat, but without clear instructions on how to proceed. So [I feel] EVERY SINGLE ISSUE takes so long to resolve.
It seems to me that Cornerstone OnDemand is suited for large bureaucracies that have not been exposed to current technology, so they don't know how many features are lacking or how far behind they are with their user interface.

I'm not sure I can add more, but [I feel like] Cornerstone OnDemand [is] a system that has been cobbled together badly, so every single change requires an abundance of steps and "touches" to different parts of the system. I wish you allowed me to rate them "0".

Cornerstone OnDemand is being used by our Training department for instructor-led training as well as new hire compliance training. We are currently using the learning suite across one division of the organization.
  • The level of automation that's possible within the system makes repetitive tasks like annual training a breeze when configured appropriately.
  • The flexibility of the latest reporting capabilities with Cornerstone OnDemand allows for a vast range of data tracking.
  • With good implementation, the system can essentially be configured to capture, track, and house almost any level or kind of data associated with a user.
  • Although the system allows for a great deal of flexibility, there are certain areas that are more locked down and do not provide what might actually be available in other parts of the application.
  • Sometimes there is a lack of consistency among different pieces of the system that makes for a less fluid user experience than might be possible.
If your organization has either solid cross-functional business processes or you are moving in that direction, Cornerstone OnDemand will serve your needs well. If, however, you will need to operate the system within a highly self-contained silo, you may not be able to fully realize the benefits of the system and may struggle to find the value.

We use CSOD throughout our whole organization for our Learning Management System (LMS). It addresses the problems of learning management, regulatory agency compliance for continuing education; delivering education, and reporting/tracking.

We used Cornerstone OnDemand for semi-annual performance reviews. All departments used it to manage the performance review process, but only for managers to review direct reports. We did not use it to do peer 360 reviews.
  • Show users all performance review questions at once, so they can fill in questions as desired.
  • Show and allow users to download past reviews, to understand an employee's past performance.
  • Customization. Editing the performance review questions was limited and confusing.
  • Saving work. Dozens of employees would type directly into the performance review question boxes only for the system to refresh and not save their work. This is because the system logs you out after a short time on the website.
Well suited:
  • Organizations with performance review processes that they do not need to customize.
  • Organizations that already use the product in other use cases and are looking to centralize all their HR and performance management details in one place.

Not well suited:
  • Any organizations that need to customize question content, question flow, or the user experience.
  • Tech-first environments where employees will feel frustrated by the user experience of being logged out quickly or have their work not saved.

The system is used by the entire company, including the operational public. The biggest gain is the ease of access to training, which allows us to train faster and faster.

As the Cornerstone Systems, Learning and Performance administrator, I have been able to provide a wide variety of both learning and performance solutions to our organisation.

In the performance space we have created Observation Checklists to assess technical competencies, and also for Quarterly Performance Reviews using role-related competencies. Managers love the structured format and the ability to add observation notes on an ongoing basis.

In a nutshell, Cornerstone has enabled us to grow and develop our people at the same time as fulfilling management reporting and audit requirements!

  • The ability to easily track the assignment and completions of all the tasks, and the ability to produce real-time reports has revolutionised our training and performance management areas. It is now a simple and easy process to provide reports for auditors and for management reporting. This has enhanced manager’s ability to keep track of their team’s progress.
  • In the learning space, we have created in-house training, uploaded SCORM files from external providers to create online courses and created materials which link to external training websites. All the training assignment and completion is easily tracked and reported on. The users find the access through Cornerstone easy to use.
  • It would be great if the Performance module had the same reporting features as the Learning Module. I find I have to design my own reports using Reporting 2.0, whereas I just use the Standard Reports in Learning, as they have everything I need.
  • Again, it would be nice if assigning the Performance Tasks had something like the Learning Assignment Tool where you can easily assign and track assignments.
  • I find the Custom Reports difficult to create and the on-line help is not very helpful in this area!

Cornerstone OnDemand is a great product to use for learning. The specific way I use the product at this time is to deliver, track, and document all the compliance training that is provided to each employee. The new Reporting 2.0 tool has an amazing functionality called Exception Reporting. This allows you to ensure that all persons required to take training have in fact been assigned the training. This is extremely helpful to ensure that no employee is missed and everyone meets their annual training requirements. Additionally, Cornerstone has an amazing group of individuals that are available when you have a question. There are multiple ways to get assistance, from the online Help Center to over-the-phone Office Hours to topic-specific training with their trainers. I highly recommend using Cornerstone OnDemand as your next LMS.

We use Cornerstone OnDemand as our enterprise-wide employee training LMS. This addressed our desire to streamline the number of sites and applications our employees needed to use to complete training. The biggest assistance having an enterprise-wide solution provides is the ease of pushing out and tracking training for our very large employee base.
  • Permissions - Almost everything within the tool is permissionable, which allows us to show only needed pieces to employees.
  • Releases - The quarterly release cycle is communicated very well with enough supporting documentation to gain knowledge of what is happening and prepare your org prior to upgrades.
  • Flexibility - The system is very flexible to meet many needs of a diverse organization. There are built-in pieces that can be adapted to fit a need and fill gaps.
  • Groups - You have the ability to create tailored groups of people for use across the system but the groups interface is very cumbersome to use.
  • Pulling information from System - there are some gaps with information you can pull back from the system overall. This includes reporting on some information such as group criteria and permissions/roles applied to users. To get this information you have to do a project/work order which takes time and money.
  • Administrator Functions Menus - The menus are deep and hard to navigate because the placement of items does not always seem consistent.
Cornerstone OnDemand is well suited for having a single or almost-single source of training for a very large organization. The ease of putting a course into the system and making it available across the enterprise or pushing it out as an assignment with a due date is great. It also handles the ability to push out large amounts of training to users through assignments pretty well, although sometimes it does take a while to process.

We are utilizing Cornerstone OnDemand as our primary learning management system. We currently only use the learning module and content from Cornerstone. It allows us to issue and track compliance training throughout our entire organization. It also provides us with the opportunity to offer personal development training, technical training, and management training on an as-needed basis.
  • The customization of the home screen allows us to be more impactful to our learners.
  • The creation and management of learning/completion dashboards make it really easy to track progress.
  • The upgrades to the reporting features allow me to customize the data that I want to see.
  • When an employee is on extended leave, they will still appear on training reports and past due reports making the reports inaccurate.
  • While you are able to create reoccurring training, it has to be at specific intervals. It would be really nice to be able to relaunch a training or checklist when the need is recognized.
  • There has been some issues playing trainings over specific browsers.
Cornerstone OnDemand has been a great asset in managing compliance training. There is a great reporting system to show when employees completed their training and who has missed it. Their content is engaging and relevant. I would like the opportunity to purchase smaller packages of content or customize which courses I am purchasing based on my employee needs.

Cornerstone OnDemand learning and performance modules are used across a manufacturing organization with facilities in North America, Europe, and Asia. It is used for training manufacturing staff, salespeople, and support staff in compliance and developmental training. It is also used for new hire and annual performance management and talent review and 9-Box succession planning.

We use it across most of our brands and plan on expanding it to all brands that fall under our umbrella. It makes it easy, one stop shop for all of our learning materials. We can use it for our own personal creation training and others we have purchased. We also host ILTs and others though the platform.

  • I really like the block chain information I learned. I think implementing that will help individuals find training that will really help them progress.

I really enjoy the learning platform. I wish that our company would communicate more across the back office because HR launched Kronos and knowing that we would have done everything in CSOD with the other suites they offer would have been nice since everything would be all in one place.

Cornerstone is being used across the organization and we are looking to expand it into the businesses of our acquisitions. We mainly use the system for onboarding new employees. We created curricula with homegrown videos and use dynamic assignment to assign to users once they start the organization or transition within. We also have 3rd party content in our system.

  • It is a monster of a system and sometimes it is hard to use.

Cornerstone is a very powerful tool. It does take time to learn the system. It really does need a dedicated administrator to keep it afloat in a company. It isn't a plug and play software. A company that is willing to invest in the development of its employees will find great benefits from using the power of this system. It just doesn't happen overnight.

Cornerstone is used by our whole organization. At the moment we use it as a basic internal communication tool for employees and mainly as an LMS. It helps distribute online training, send reminder emails, and track and report on training for compliance. I helps with automated training emails and report generation.
  • Customization. There are plenty of options and ways to do what you might want to serve your training needs.
  • Reporting. The new Reporting 2.0 feature is good and getting better. It makes it easy to create a report you want and share it with others, including dashboards.
  • Learning Assignment Tool. This tool is a wizard that makes assigning easy and provides a lot of options (one-time vs recurring, individual or group assignment, dynamic assignment to new hires, etc). Fantastic feature.
  • The back button on the browser sometimes works, sometimes doesn't and breadcrumbs are not always available to go back to where you need to go.
  • Some of the older page designs use very small text and are not intuitive. However, these are slowly being revamped and the new pages are wonderful.
  • I have experienced poor customer service - delays in responding, stressed employees - so I have learned to rely on the client forums instead. However, I hear this is beginning to change.
It is better suited for larger organizations that need complex customization and world language translation, especially since larger organizations will have the manpower to keep up with the administration of such a robust system. For those who want simple uploading and tracking or for those who don't have dedicated LMS admins to keep it organized, a platform with a simpler layout and set of options might be a better choice.

Cornerstone OnDemand is being used org-wide at our company. Cornerstone has been able to address many business needs such as: managing our overall compliance training program, ILT and (more recently) virtual ILT or vILT for many of our business partners such as Recruiting and Product training, learning content curation and beginning stages of self-interest in professional development.
  • Access to a huge community of training resources training webinars and social communities. Cornerstone does a great job with providing administrators with the tools and people to get connected on utilizing the product.
  • Ability to load or upload files of data. I used Cornerstone with a smaller company and now I'm with a company with a larger employee group. Cornerstone's ability to load certain data for specific features saves administrators time and effort when carrying out tasks and projects.
  • Access to permissions and constraints. This allows us to either centralize or de-centralize tasks to our organization partners based on business needs.
  • Cornerstone's available integrations in the Edge Marketplace also is becoming extremely helpful. With so many applications within a business, we're looking to have a "hub" where our employees can have a one-stop shop for learning.
  • When someone gets onboarded as an administrator, it is really daunting to learn the system and the resources available. Personally, I think being able to connect with one person to show me the ropes (sort of a like a buddy system upon hire) is helpful.
  • I remember Cornerstone appointing a CSM to every client before the model changed. I understand having the new system of requesting a CSM allows for CSMs with different expertise and knowledge to step in, but the quarterly check-ins were helpful to understand upcoming releases and a knowledgeable person who truly understands the business' needs and wants.
  • Improved communications on target fix dates for known issues. Being left in the dark without much information is hard to communicate back to the business.
Cornerstone is well suited for when company's need a robust LMS that is scalable and user-friendly. I only use it for Learning, but the features available to us as administrators allows us to tailor the user experience and curate a budding learning culture with simple workflows and processes. The community is large and teeming with clients who are using it on so many different scales, and who are willing to help with sharing best practices and tips. Where I think Cornerstone can be less appropriate is the daunting counts of available features - keep your business needs in mind and don't feel overwhelmed with all it has to offer. Start small and expand as your business evolves.

This is a great tool to use for onboarding a new hire and presenting all company information in one place. CSOD is being used for the entire Placer County employee organization. We use it for our compliance training, ILT management, eLearning content library, and is the data system of record. The CSOD system has an API integration with our HR system, Workday. Additionally we have several large departments that use the system heavily to track very specific qualifications and certifications as well as provide training to our client base that is required by contracts held with the State of California.
  • SSO ease of access for employees is awesome, in particular with a small team to manage it.
  • Securities are great so that we can have Department Administrators be the super admin for their specific department training.
  • We were able to brand it and make it look personalized to our County.
  • Use of email administration to set up reminders and also notifications has alleviated a huge manual workload issue.
  • Robust system and really required dedicated staff time to implement and launch. It would have been helpful to know this at the get go.
  • Integration with MS Teams would really help our organization.
  • Focused training with a live person at the beginning of implementation.
I really love the functionality, security, and the ability to use the system in a way that fits our needs. Our Sheriff Office is using Observation Checklist and OJT to manage rifle qualifications. The Calendar is awesome and we use it constantly and got great feedback from employees love to see the offerings at a glance.

Our eLearning created through Storyline looks great and is easy to upload SCORM to the system and "curate" for the learner with appropriate.
