What is Couchbase Server?

Couchbase Server is a cloud-native, distributed database that fuses the strengths of relational databases such as SQL and ACID transactions with JSON flexibility and scale that defines NoSQL. It is available as a service in commercial clouds and supports hybrid and private cloud deployments.

Built on NoSQL technology, Couchbase Server is designed to deliver performance at any scale across any cloud. With its memory-first architecture, latency is measured in milliseconds. And with a JSON document foundation, geo-distributed deployments, workload isolation, and high-density storage, Couchbase is presented as an ideal database for scalable, mission-critical applications. To round off the solution, Couchbase has an SQL-compatible query language (SQL++) and dynamic schema structures, to make it easy to migrate from RDBMS.

Intuitive GUI makes view statistic, administration, managing cluster very easy just one click like installing software and couch base manages all your need in the background. applying the CQRS pattern you can improve the performance because it´s a way to separate reads and writes, in this combination using indexing Couchbase is very fast and stable.

Excellent in handling high data volumes both horizontally (large-sized documents) and vertically (a large number of documents). XDCR is easy to use and allows for easy migration planning from one cluster to another for upgrades, etc. Indexes can be simple or super complex and allow you really pinpoint bottlenecks in the data querying and speed up reporting.

Very easy to scale horizontally. Document replication takes care of the rest of the things. Even when nodes go down document replication takes care of data reliability aspects. It's easier to scale down as well when there is a decrease in demand to save costs. The configuration management for scaling up or down is very minimal.

So far the performance has been great. We do not notice much slowdown for any of our queries or data. The only time we notice slowness is when the game teams want to be extremely granular with their search queries on our CB index nodes. Usually the complexity of their searches are not necessary and we can help them simplify

It's predominantly the high data volumes and operations that we were most astonished by. Having hundreds of client operations per second on a single record is quite remarkable. Now multiply that by billions of records.

The nimbleness of the product helps it really perform well vis-a-vis its competitors and also the fact that it is well documented provides the extra confidence. As mentioned in the previous sections, the vendors provide excellent support as and when needed and is very responsive to requests/enhancements that are requested for.
