We are a Crownpeak partner and implement DXM for various clients. Typically it is used by the marketing, or digital, department on behalf of the whole organization. It serves as a the backbone for the web presence for a business. i.e., it's the product that allows a business to maintain its website easily and effectively, refreshing content as needed.
  • The SaaS platform eliminates the headache of upgrades and patches and allows businesses to just focus on the site development and day-to-day management.
  • Crownpeak's technical support team is always prompt with answering any question or issue that arises.
  • The lack of real-time debugging may contribute to additional development effort at times.
  • Although its my understanding that its being addressed, the publishing queue can be slow at times during extremely heavy publishing loads.
For companies looking to move into a truly cloud-based environment without the complexity of managing servers and upgrades, Crownpeak really shines. It is extremely easy to use from a content editor point of view. Sites built on Crownpeak DXM can be managed by developers with "mid-level" experience, unlike many competitors. Managing digital quality (SEO, accessibility, brand standards, etc.) is a very powerful advantage. Although it is quite capable at integrating with third party solutions, companies that are looking for a ton of "out-of-the-box" add-ons (e-commerce for example) will not find it appropriate.

  • Our clients have seen a lower cost of ownership due to fully SaaS platform.
  • Our clients appreciate eliminating the need for painful upgrades.
As an agency, we work with several different content / digital experience platforms. My clients who chose Crownpeak over other options did so primarily due to the lack of need to perform costly upgrades and the ability to support multiple development options (i.e., not just .Net).
Developer
1,000-10,000 pages
We've recently begun building out headless solutions on Crownpeak using Vue. This has allowed us to build solutions more quickly, typically while utilizing lower cost resources. In addition, not having to worry about upgrades allows our clients to focus their budgets on important things like new functionality, targeted landing pages, and other initiatives that help drive revenue.
Crownpeak's support team is very prompt and well equipped to answer questions or resolve issues. I would like to see more involvement by peers in the new Crownpeak Community Portal but suspect that will happen over time.
There's always some level of training with new DMX administration, and Crownpeak's decoupled architecture can be a little confusing to new users at first, but its easy enough to overcome and the layout of the content management process is well done.
  • Content Updating
  • Creating Templates
  • Building Landing pages
  • Debugging certain coding issues
Typically my clients have 10-20 people working with the platform. There roles vary but include content editors, designers, SEO specialists, and front-end developers.

Depending on the complexity of the implementation, this could vary. However, on the more "straight-forward" implementations a traditional front-end development team might be all you need. Of course, if there are custom, complex integrations with 3rd party systems you might need more diverse skillsets.

  • Decoupled Architecture
  • Development Flexibility
  • Headless / React Front-End Implementation

A couple of our clients were replacing discontinued products such as Ektron.

Cloud based, truly "headless" nature of the product allows for a lot of flexibility. Not having to constantly upgrade is a big plus.
  • Third-party professional services
We are a 3rd party company (iMedia) who implements Crownpeak on behalf of our clients.
Yes
Typically the process includes multiple phases: a) discovery, b) define, c) design, d) development and e) deploy. Once we finish the define phase, if there is a decision to be made on which DXM is the most suitable, we will do this at this time.
  • Not being able to debug code as easily as developers are accustomed to.
  • Publishing speed at times when doing a large content restructure.
Simply by not having to spin up and manage multiple server environments, our clients have been able to quickly deploy content updates. Timelines to launch will vary, of course, depending on the complexity of the project but knowing that "launch-day" is essentially covered due to the SaaS nature of the product is a huge relief for us as well as our clients.
  • Online training
My team left training with a solid understanding of how to use the product and the developer training ended with a test to ensure the ability to properly develop was learned properly. Recently, Crownpeak has added a self-paced training option which makes it extremely flexible to on-board new developers.
Configuration options are fine.
No - we have not done any customization to the interface
Yes - we have added extensive custom code
Crownpeak allows you to build out extensions and we have taken advantage of that on several projects to interface to other systems.
Our clients typically have multiple websites running on Crownpeak without issues.
Due to its architecture, its vital that the product is available at all times. Crownpeak understands that.
Pages load very fast on production (assuming you develop with basic SEO practices in place) due to Crownpeak's publishing architecture. The slide downside is that publishing can be a bit slow at times.
Crownpeak has been very responsive with questions typically answered quickly.
Crownpeak sales and support team are very responsive based on our experiences.
Make sure all groups (developers, marketers, decision makers) are involved in the sales process
Yes
Yes, with Crownpeak, you are always on the current software version so you don't have to "upgrade" like traditional platforms. If you want to utilize new features, then you have to restructure your templates like you would with any platform.

We currently use Crownpeak DXM for some of our clients. For the clients that we provide web content management services via the Crownpeak DXM, they use the platform all across the whole organization also in different languages. The tools provide a seamless content management operations process; the workflow structure and content management process allow non-technical users to create state-of-the-art customer experiences with limited teams. In-built DQM (Digital Quality Management) tool gives the marketing teams the ability to audit their content for accuracy and accessibility. The system has a decoupled deployment structure; as content authors, we are able to create, manage and push content globally (in various languages) with fewer efforts and shorter turnaround times when it comes to delivering complex digital projects without any IT involvement.
  • Build & manage digital experiences without dependency on your IT team
  • Built-in Digital Quality tool (DQM) tool allows you to check the quality of content and any accessibility issues and immediately flag any issues before publishing.
  • Build websites with the component-based technology and spend less effort in creating the best user experience for the end-user
  • Platform can be slow sometimes.
  • Training materials are limited
The Crownpeak DXM solution is totally suitable for any organization looking for a modern cloud-based true-SaaS CMS solution to modernize their website and web operations on time and budget. The ease of use without requiring IT or developers, the ability to move quickly and make updates or push out campaigns with ease and top notch security are some of the differentiators of the tool. In a recent development project for a legal business client, we chose Crownpeak platform for its adaptability, flexibility and ease of maintenance. We integrated the client database with a customized API to their existing services, with the flexibility that the platform offers we used Oracle Connection libraries and server scripting to process the data on the server side. All of these were possible because of Crownpeak's agile structure and the decoupled architecture.

Due to the Cloud-first decoupled architecture there is an advantage of separating the management of the experience from the delivery of the experience. This allows Crownpeak to deliver any type of content into any technology, located anywhere. Another key benefit is its interoperability – it’s very easily integrated with third-party platforms, making it possible to build a world-class marketing technology stack quickly and efficiently. What’s especially unique about Crownpeak is that there’s no need to rip and replace any of your current systems if you’re still getting business value from them.

We chose Crownpeak because of its adaptability, flexibility, and ease of maintenance. For example, in a client portal project we integrated Crownpeak with our customer's database servers and their existing services which they were already using for their own internal processes like managing documents, bills, etc. So, there was a need to connect all of them in one platform. With the flexibility of Crownpeak, we used Oracle Connection libraries, we used web services which are provided by other stakeholders, and we used server scripting when we needed to process these data on the server-side. All of them were possible because of Crownpeak’s agile structure. So basically, CrownPeak provides us limitless flexibility with the decoupled architecture.
The advice we can provide to digital leaders out there is to select to work with tools & technologies that provide them the ability to implement faster and move faster, that allows out of the box integrations that developers can integrate in no time and most importantly the ease of use without requiring IT, the ability to move quickly and make updates or push out campaigns with ease and top notch security are some of the differentiators that we would recommend that they should consider.

Yes
We collect the requirements from the client. Then we kick off the project by analyzing the requirements and creating POC with key features in the Crownpeak DEV environment. In the meantime, we complete the dev requirements and the design with the client. Then we start working with the project by setting up the server, environments, and workflows which becomes a very easy task thanks to Crownpeak’s built-in features especially environmental workflow. By using the component library, we have a chance to create components for the elements which are repeatedly using on the website which makes our development process easier and faster. When the templates are ready, the developers perform unit tests on their own components and deploy the project to the testing environment, so that the testing team can perform the front-end tests. After a back-and-forth between developers and testing teams, we provide the pages to the client for review. After another back-and-forth between the client and the developers, the client provides the final approval, and then we are ready for go-live. The go-live process is also very easy with Crownpeak. The live environment is already ready when we set up the server at the beginning of the project so the only thing, we need to do is to click a couple of buttons and we are live.
Change management was minimal
  • Translation but it has been solved quickly after addressing with Crownpeak
As for the development teams simplistic approach gives the developers the flexibility to implement their code rapidly with the use of component based templates. The CMS is easy to set-up and can be ready within a few weeks compared to months in a traditional WCM. User configuration, roles and managing access is smooth; active directory configuration allows users to access the platform with their corporate credential which is a simple set-up.

Even if we do not find anything on both platforms, Crownpeak gives us efficient and quick support service with a responsible and reliable support team. Also, we are attending regular and on-demand training provided by Crownpeak whenever necessary.

Crownpeak DXM is being used by the digital experience team within the Corporate Marketing Department at my organization. We're using it to manage and host our 19+ sites and their related image, video, PDF and other assets.
  • Simplistic Content Management - the system is very easy to learn and use.
  • Customer Support Team is great - our issues get responses and resolution in a timely manner.
  • It's really easy to clone/duplicate assets, which helps with building out new sites or new sections within existing sites.
  • The DQM tool helps us track, identify and correct any organic SEO or general website functionality issues.
  • I never got to use the desktop application version - which my colleagues love(ed) - but the web browser version, although easy, has some weird glitches. For instance, I have to refresh the browser one-two times per day to get the scroll bar to appear to scroll through long form asset files/content pages.
  • It would be nice to have some kind of capability to have new files/PDFs wrapped when you upload them. At the moment, I have to upload a new file, then go manually wrap it before I embed it on a page, which adds an extra step to common tasks I perform.
  • This is minor, but since CrownPeak is soon phasing out it’s app, it’d be nice if the desktop portal/interface had a more responsive design (especially for folks who have to work from home because of the pandemic and don’t have a robust set up). In my experience, CrownPeak’s competitor’s Sitecore and Drupal have a browser portal/interface that is much more responsive and laptop screen-friendly.
It's great for companies that manage multiple websites. Everything is in one place on a tool that's easy to use.

CrownPeak just needs to enhance the user experience a bit for the tool to warrant a 9/10 or 10/10, in my opinion.

CrownPeak’s DQM gives the entire CrownPeak suite a slight advantage because it’s so helpful in tracking functionality issues, typos and areas for SEO improvements.
