It supports us prioritising, managing, controlling and reporting projects/portfolios from ideas through to realisation of benefits in order to support achievement of financial objectives.
  • offers good a good user roles & rights concept
  • supports individual setup of Dynamic Applications for different purposes
  • in combination with the implemented BI software IBM Cognos you may design your individual as well as company wide template reports
  • In my opinion, APIs / integrations are sometimes coming to their limit
  • In my experience, no general archive available - therefore data sets cannot be frozen
  • Data roll-up for different hierarchy levels (program / project / sub-project) is very limited, in my opinion.
  • In my opinion, when having showing a large number projects navigation on project tab is not very handy
Positive: - Easy entry of profile and status updates - Native Dynamic Applications cover basic needs - Custom DAs can be added quite easily - ... Negative: - Missing data archive to enable the review of historic data sets (Status history covers only entries of this section) - Design / Look and feel looks a little bit outdated, in my opoinion - In my experience, the Task section it is sometimes hard to find the right way to get your data into the system (especially for beginners), e.g. "Edit Task" versus "Update Task" (accessable via different ways and hard to distinguish) - ...

Planview Daptiv is mainly used for process automation, we have over past years successfully implemented and supported the solution for a number of clients. The use of the product is from Ideation prioritisation and scoring to benefits tracking, what most clients comment the product for is the ability to scale and the IBM Cognos Analytics offered by the tool.

I recommend it for ease of use, the user interface, and how the product can be aligned to organisations maturity level.

We have implemented Planview Daptiv in Financial Services, the reception has been good. However, our retail client had challenges using capacity planning. Primarily because they were using multiple tools in the organisation like MS-Project and JIRA, and they had challenges on MS-Project to Planview Daptiv bi-synchronization as it captured time and not pulling through resources as is on MS-Project.

  • Improved product time to market for our Clients
  • Saved Project Costs
  • Better project prioritisation
  • Improved Project Managers productivity
AdaptiveWork might not necessarily have robust Analytical abilities that Daptiv IBM Cognos BI tool have, but from the introduction I have seen of the product it has impressive capabilities. It is still work in progress and still learning about AdaptiveWork and looking forward to implementing and supporting it in the near future.

Daptiv - solid tool

We use Daptiv within one branch of our organization for Project and portfolio management and time tracking. We use it for project tracking and status reporting at the project and entire portfolio level, and do resource management. We have ~225 users.
  • Daptiv provides one location for consistent information about ALL our projects to support executive reporting
  • Daptiv is very customizable to support your business processes and language
  • Daptiv has improved the usability of their resource planning ability recently and this is increasingly a strength.
  • The Daptiv UI has seen some significant improvements recently that were long in coming. However I am still waiting for more that are on their plan. Lack of ability to customize what appears on specific screens or to add hover over help for less experienced users make it a difficult sell for some of our occasional users.
  • Daptiv comes with Cognos reports that does allow reporting against all the data elements. However the lack of ability to extract data in any form other than an emailed report significantly limits the ability to interface with the data.
  • Changes to many of the data elements are not tracked to who made changes and when.
  • Access to data elements is at a very broad level making it difficult to allow third party users to use the tool with limited access.
Daptiv is well suited to a mid to large size relatively structured organization. It has a top down focus and flexibility that supports executive reporting well. Like most PPM tools it does require some central administration. Right now it is not highly suited to development organization that is fully agile.

  • Daptiv has allow my organization to get a closer handle on ALL the projects that are taking place.
  • We can now tell where our development groups' work is going.
I was not involved in the selection process but based on my experience I would say that Microsoft Project Server definitely shows it roots in Microsoft Project. Nice UI, nicer hands on tools for PMs but not a strong in keeping an eye on non project work and much weaker on resource management from the resource managers point of view. Also the link between the desk top and web interface are confusing at best with Microsoft Project Server.

Big issues I have always had good luck in response and they are generally resolved quickly. Smaller issues do sometimes go into a black hole. I do not have a way to track my issue currently.
Yes
Bugs in the end user tool have always been resolved quickly. Bugs in the admin tool do not seem to get the same priority.
  • UI would not be Daptiv strong point so not sure that I would describe any parts as elegant but I would say that the new Project resource plan is very complete and usable.
  • Profile updates should be very simple - not that they are particularly difficult but they are not simple
The main thing that I have to apologize for is the UI. Does the job but just not the flexible responsive experience that most users are used to.
We are quickly able to add more users as needed.
In the 3 years I have worked with Daptiv I think it is been down once. The ONLY partial outages I have ever had have been with report automation.

Daptiv PPM is being primarily used by the IT department currently. There is some discussion to allow use of the tool outside of IT if there is a fit with specific business needs. I utilize Daptiv heavily for its project portfolio management capabilities coupled with its resource planning views. Together these allow teams to better understand which projects are consuming resources and the overall impact to resource supply and timelines for availability. The time tracking functionality has also been beneficial as it is captures actual time spent on specific projects and helps teams to provide better estimates for similar project requests.
  • Daptiv is particularly well suited for capturing project details in one location and the tool can function as an intake process for project requests.
  • This has been helpful to my organization as it has allowed us to stop using individual spreadsheets that often do not align.
  • The Resource Management function in Daptiv offers an overall view of project demand versus available capacity. This has allowed my team to show internal IT teams as well as the executive teams where resources are being focused.
  • The Time Tracking function was something that my company was missing as a centralized tool. Previously, disparate spreadsheets were used, or in some cases, an outdated tool only used by few teams was still in use. Daptiv has made time tracking easier for users as well as given visibility into where work efforts are expended.
  • A project management function is available in Daptiv however, my teams find that it is not useful for complex projects. It is a functional module, however it would be more useful and more widely used if it was more flexible. Entering tasks is somewhat cumbersome currently.
  • The Reporting functionality is very good in Daptiv, however to create custom reports requires someone to be very familiar with the Cognos tool. In my company we do not have the resources to bring someone on staff with this skillset.
Daptiv is useful for companies looking to gain visibility into their project demand and understand their resource capacity against the demand. Like any tool, Daptiv does require some process changes and/or to have a disciplined approach as far as project intake and resource time tracking. A company will get out of the tool actionable information only if they are capable of inputting data consistently by and across the teams that will benefit from its use.

  • I am in the process of establishing a hard dollar ROI received from Daptiv. However, there have been many soft dollar benefits we have achieved. Soft benefits include IT teams that are more aligned to business objectives, "one version of the truth" for where work is being performed and resources consumed, and more accurate estimation of project requests.
Daptiv is an integrated toolset that satisfies our needs for multiple functions (project intake, resource capacity management, time tracking, portfolio planning and management). Daptiv was selected based on our evaluation of multiple tools. It was a close race between a couple of tools but we felt that Daptiv was a better fit for both our immediate and long term needs.
