What is DataMotion?
DataMotion's API and pre-built secure email, messaging, and document exchange solutions are designed to make it easy to exchange sensitive, regulated data between people, applications, and systems. With an AES encrypted “governed” database core and a “trust no one” design, the company’s APIs and pre-built services support compliance with rigorous corporate policies and government regulations, such as HIPAA, PCI-DSS, CJIS, FINRA, and more.
The vendor states that because most encryption services can be hard to use (with too many steps, logins, keys and codes to manage), DataMotion services have evolved to address those end user complaints, without sacrificing security in the process. They describe their services as easy for senders, easy for recipients, easy for mobile users, and better for business.
DataMotion’s pre-built services are offered as part of their personal, pro, team, and enterprise plans. Some of the features available in these plans include:

DataMotion also offers HISP services (Direct Secure Messaging) which enable healthcare providers, payers, vendors, HIEs, and patients to experience frictionless and secure health information exchange. The vendor offers methods to send and receive Direct Messages from mobile health apps, EMRs, and patient portals, while promoting compliance with HIPAA and ONC rules. The vendor states that 1000’s of ambulatory providers and over 100 EHR vendors, health systems, and HIEs use DataMotion to exchange clinical data on and off the DirectTrust network.

Best Safe Secure Mail
We have to send secure emails on a daily basis. Because of that, DataMotion SecureMail was the best choice for our office. We are able to safely send protected information without overpaying.

Our email solution for sending restricted-use data
We had to use the public cloud option due to ease of maintenance and our compliance needs were fully met. For organizations willing to implement this service, I wold recommend weighing all the options and choosing the one that is economic and meets your internal and external compliance requirements.

Easy way to send secure emails
Yes, this was a major decision to acquire this product because of that reason. We want to make sure we are protecting the information of our participants in our study so this is why we use a secure mail platform like DataMotion.

Rolls Royce of SecureMail services
This was not a major factor as we expected to be setting up the DataMotion SecureMail on-premise. Since we have had about 90% of our systems migrated to the cloud 4 years ago, finding out that we could also run this in the cloud, right alongside our Azure AD, was a pleasant surprise.
I wasn't a part of the purchase of DataMotion so I don't know the answer to this.

Safe, Secure, Smart Communication
It was a major factor for us. I was not involved in the decision but because we work with over 2500 hospitals, more than 500 healthcare organizations, get data on 50k+ clinicians, and have some of the very large nonfederal healthcare-related databases in the country, we do everything on-premises. We host our own data center.
