TrustRadius Insights are summaries of user sentiment data from TrustRadius reviews and, when necessary, 3rd-party data sources. Have feedback on this content? Let us know!

Users have found that this product is an easy and affordable backup solution for both on-site and off-site needs. It integrates quickly and easily with Windows Servers and NASes, providing a single pane of glass for monitoring, which has been highly praised by users. Small companies appreciate the product for allowing them to provide excellent backup service without extensive management. One major issue that it solves is the cost of entry-level BCDR devices offered by other providers, as users are amazed by its ability to fail over to the Datto cloud DR environment even on entry-level devices. Additionally, the product is valued for providing a hybrid backup solution in areas with poor internet speeds.

Some users have had difficulties with canceling and returning the product, but eventually succeeded. However, overall, users find that the product helps educate clients about the need for comprehensive data protection and offers a financially justifiable solution. The simplicity of the product allows tier I techs to assist with file restoration, optimizing backup infrastructure by including more machines in cloud backups. Business continuity and disaster recovery are major benefits of using the product, as it takes hourly backups and replicates them to the Datto cloud, helping with disaster preparedness. Users also appreciate the secure backup and data retrieval capabilities across teams. Overall, the product offers a cost-effective backup option for clients, eliminating the need for passport drives and allowing for easy swapping.

Easy Deployment Process: Users find the deployment process of the product extremely easy, with some stating that they can send a technician into the field to plug it in and accomplish everything else remotely. This streamlined setup process saves users time and effort.

Great Price: The price of the product is considered great by users, with many expressing that it has saved them money multiple times. Its affordability makes it an attractive choice for customers, especially for smaller businesses looking for cost-effective backup solutions.

Ease of Use and Reliability: The ease of use and reliability of Datto Alto are among some of its best features. Users find it simple to deploy and manage, appreciating its stability and overall functionality. They rely on Datto Alto's consistent performance to ensure their data is securely backed up at all times.

Configuration Errors: Some users have reported experiencing configuration errors in the web interface. These errors can be resolved by refreshing the page, but it is still an inconvenience for some users who have encountered this issue repeatedly.

Performance Issues: Several users have encountered performance issues when using the Alto. The connected computers become slow and frequently experience blue screens, causing frustration and disruptions to their work. This problem persists even when trying the Alto on multiple computers, indicating a potential flaw in its compatibility or system requirements.

Unhelpful Tech Support: A user expressed dissatisfaction with Datto tech support, stating that their standard procedure involves restarting the computer and then switching to email-based support without providing satisfactory resolutions. This lack of effective assistance can leave users feeling unsupported and frustrated with unresolved issues.

Based on user reviews, here are the three most common recommendations for the product:

  1. Consider less expensive alternatives: Users suggest exploring other options that provide better performance and come at a lower cost. They also mention that alternative products may offer improved technical support.

  2. Assess support and capacity requirements: Reviewers advise asking detailed questions about the level of support provided by the company. It is important to ensure that the product can handle double the current data storage needs.

  3. Verify size and capabilities: Users recommend checking if the product is the right size for the data being stored and if it can handle increased capacity. It is recommended to invest in a product that can accommodate a larger amount of data to prevent future regrets.

Overall, some users express concerns about cost-effectiveness and support, while others believe that the product provides reasonable pricing with a wide range of features. Users also mention having trust in both the product and company, despite potential time investments and occasional issues during usage.

Datto Alto is the main onsite / cloud backup solution that we offer our customers. We had used other cloud / onsite solutions in the past but found that Datto was the easiest to implement for our customers and offered us the best support. We currently have over 30 customers that use Datto Alto for their onsite / cloud backup of data.
  • offsite data backup
  • restoration of data
  • backup verification
  • local backup size limitations
Datto Alto has been best suited for our customers who do not have an extremely large amount of data (Less than 2TB). We have had issues with customers that had limitations to how useful the cloud option was based on their internet speed (Rural)
  • Backup reports
  • User Interface is intuitive and easy to use
  • We are able to offer our customers a relatively inexpensive offsite data storage option that can also act as a stop-gap if they were to have major hardware failures
  • we have not had any negative impacts from Datto
  • The ease of installation/setup of Datto Alto has enabled us to mail out the device to a customer and have them plug it into their network to save us time delivering and setting up if the customer was a long distance from us.
Datto cloud backup reporting, user interface, and overall functionality are so much better than Avast Cloud Backup that it can barely be a comparison. We had an issue with Avast Cloud Backup that reporting wasn't working correctly, and while it looked like someone's data was backing up it was actually failing and a customer of ours lost some important data. We have not had this issue with Datto Alto

We use Datto Alto to backup single servers at client sites. If a client has a single server that does more than just file and folder hosting, Datto Alto is a must to meet our goal of getting a client back up and running from a total server failure. Beyond the business continuity of having the server run in the cloud during the repair is when the new hardware is ready to deploy, it makes restoring a breeze and does not require major technical expertise.
  • Support.
  • Consistency of Backup.
  • Ability to test backups with scripts.
  • Reporting.
  • Ability to differentiate between Workstations and Servers to help with agent count.
  • Longer warranty cycles.
  • Automatic device registration.
Fantastic for a small site with a single server to back up with less than 1TB of data. Great for scenarios where business continuity is OK to run a little slow. Not great for scenarios where Disk Speed on the server is important (i.e. CAD files, databases, etc.). Great for restoring Active Directory.
  • Ease of monitoring.
  • Consistency of backups.
  • Ease of recovery.
  • Easy to sell to clients at an introductory price.
  • Easy to deploy onsite.
  • Fast turnaround for hardware issues.
Datto has been the best so far for backing up servers. Support is quick to resolve issues, and the Code Red team during recovery is calming during the whole process. Recovery is easy to do and does not require reaching out to support for a hidden method to get the recovery to work.
