An effective, simple, and easy to use payroll administration tool

Rating: 8 out of 10
March 14, 2021
We use Ceridian Powerpay for payroll administration and some minor HR activities/processes. The software is used for processing payroll for all areas of the organization on a bi-weekly basis. The main business problem it solves is providing a single solution for the administration of payroll that, due to its nature, makes the process more streamlined and simplified, eliminating many of the otherwise manual aspects of payroll. As nearly all of our workforce is salaried, the actual payroll process can be completed in less than an hour without fail.
  • Ceridian Powerpay simplifies the payroll process, very little manual work involved during each payroll run.
  • Ceridian Powerpay is mostly an intuitive interface with easy to understand workflows to allow for multiple users to be able to use the system if required.
Cons
  • Reports could be more robust. You can pull reports from Ceridian Powerpay, but they are often relatively necessary and not useful for more advanced analysis and filtering, which would have to be done manually.
  • Changes to the system cannot always be completed on your own and require intervention from Ceridian via support. While this meant as a safety feature so that it doesn’t compromise the setup of your company, more advanced users should be able to use this without intervention/support.
Ceridian Powerpay is useful for an organization with either a small or large workforce, with a reasonably simple payroll setup. Our organization does not have any complicated commission schema, so Ceridian Powerpay works excellent for standard payroll that doesn’t change too much from week to week, often with salaried employees that have predictable compensation. I would hesitate to recommend Ceridian Powerpay to an organization with more complication pay systems, especially if they are larger as Ceridian Powerpay seems better suited to standard payroll without anything outside of the norm. While not feature-rich overall, Ceridian Powerpay gets the job done, and it is easy to use, so you can rely on multiple users in the organization being trained to use the software without requiring a significant investment on your part.

Payroll processing, payroll issues eg ROE creation/amendment, tracking employee expenses/reimbursements, year end reports/T4's, employee history/profile info.
  • ROE creation and amendment
  • Self Service
  • T4
  • the layout for entering time
  • payroll/year end reports
  • Security Log
  • Payroll Preview Report - details at a glance
  • Menu setup navigation
Cons
  • Adjustment - Reversal sometimes gives an error
  • Emergency Contact Comments field - would be nice if it would accept more characters in this field
  • A warning that 'no ROE will be created' popup when EI or other related fields are marked Exempt
  • Rate history on an employee's page would be nice
Data entry for inputting hours, creating ROE's, year end reports. Can't think of where it would be less appropriate, it's nice to have robust functionality.

A Good Solution for Your Payroll Needs.

Our business uses Dayforce as its payroll processing system. We needed a system that was straightforward to use for both the payroll administrator and our employees. Dayforce gives us a reliable and easy-to-use payroll system for our bi-weekly needs. Clear reporting is also essential to our business needs.
  • Excellent Customer Service.
  • Clear Reporting.
  • Easy-to-use Payroll Processing.
  • Great Resources for Changes/Updates in Regulations.
Cons
  • Being able to look into employee information without having to start a payroll period.
Dayforce is a solid payroll processing system. It's always been reliable and straightforward. However, where Dayforce shines is in its customer support. I have used a few other systems that do the same thing but cannot touch the level of superior customer service that Dayforce provides. Customer service has always been knowledgeable, concise, polite, and professional—they are what keep me as a customer!

We’ve been using Power Pay for more than 20 months and find it very reliable and user-friendly. We process hourly pay for approximately 1000 employees and salaried pay for approximately 400 employees. Employees have access to employee self-service for pay statements and tax forms.
  • Timely accurate payroll previews.
  • Easy to process records of employment.
  • Excellent general journal reports.
Cons
  • User defined reports.
  • Ability for client to enter previously deducted CPP and EI.
It is easy to process pay and handles garnishments very well. We’ve found the product to be very reliable and very user-friendly. The record of employment functionality works well with very few errors. We’ve run many extra pay runs with great success. We can import large volumes of detailed data.

User-friendly with excellent support!

We use Dayforce for payroll purposes. It easily allows us to input employee timesheets, expenses, bonuses, etc. It also lets us issue T4s and ROEs, etc. Dayforce helps us ensure everyone gets paid and keeps records of all hours, expenses, bonuses, RSPs, and other payroll-related information.
  • Timesheets.
  • Support chat.
  • Reporting
Cons
  • RSP payments (rather than just tracking).
I like Dayforce's timesheet inputs. I like that there is both the rapid entry and the timesheet tabs. It's easy and quick, and it makes a lot of sense. I wish Dayforce would pay out RSP payments, rather than log them only. It would eliminate a step for us and make things faster. But it's only once per year, so not a huge issue.
