Against hp servers, Dell has outperformed them in terms of incidents regarding hardware memory parts. With the Dell PowerEdge R series servers we have not had any incidents regarding memory modules. On the other hand, with HP servers, we encountered a lot of failures regarding memory modules during the first year of implementation.

Dell PowerEdge R rack servers support almost the entire range of the applications and hardware ecosystems of IT OEMs. Provides higher throughput, energy efficiency, high performance at a much lower cost compared to various other leading solutions. The support ecosystem of the Dell PowerEdge R is very good and fewer problems occur once installed.

Whilst Dell & HP servers are pretty much the same commodity internals, we find equivalent spec Dell servers are almost always lower both initial purchase and ongoing support and maintenance. The software tools provided between HP and Dell are pretty much equivalent.

Specifying Dell servers on their website compared to HP Proliant is much more intuitive .

PowerEdge R servers was selected by CIO. I think the servers have lots of benefits for our company and are well placed on our projects. In most business cases they are working good and our management have a clear vision to upgrade them to the same brand with better specs. Hope to see this upgrade in close future.

We found Dell an easier company to work with than HPE overall since Dell allows you to purchase directly from them where HPE requires you to use a reseller. The PowerEdge R servers came in at a lower cost than a comparability speced HPE ProLaint DL. Both servers seemed similar overall in terms of features, with Dell providing a better service and support network.

We have used Sun Fire X4170 Servers before, they were reliable servers in terms of durability, but they always had issues were the servers are not responding or not booting, they also have higher response times for the individual VMs comparing to the PowerEdge R740 which have better performance and expandability and lower response times in all kinds of circumstances.

Dell PowerEdge servers are very solid and come with all the required management software and features, i.e. iDRAC provides a web interface and a command line interface that enables the server admins manage the server by performing a wide variety of tasks. Also, it should be noted that iDRAC is a piece of hardware that sits on the server motherboard that allows the server to be updated and manage Dell systems, even when the server is turned off. There are tons of information and forums discussing these servers online which makes troubleshooting easy.

They perform essentially the same job duties, and while the HPE Blades offer much stronger density and options for expansion, the overall cost of the chassis was a major factor. We also found firmware and general support to be easier and better with Dell. I am fine using either product.

Our IT consultant firm at the time of purchase recommended these servers as part of a fuller infrastructure upgrade plan that we undertook in preparation for a major ERP & CRM systems upgrade. We did entertain the other similar systems I mentioned, but we trusted the vendor and that worked out well for us. On that note, I can't really compare the Dell version to the others, so I'll leave it at that.
