Vertical Response has been the go-to solution for email marketing for over 7 years, catering to a wide range of users, including businesses, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions. Users have praised the platform for its cost efficiency and user-friendly interface, accommodating even those with limited coding experience. It has proven to be a valuable tool for stretching the marketing budget of charities, where every dollar counts. With Vertical Response Non-Profit program, organizations have been able to effectively communicate with their supporters and reach a larger audience without incurring significant costs.

One of the primary use cases of Vertical Response is sending out mass emails to segmented lists. Users have utilized this feature to tailor their communication according to specific target audiences or campaigns. For instance, during election season, Vertical Response was invaluable in sending mass emails to campaign supporters on an extremely tight budget. Additionally, it has been extensively used as a bulk email program by businesses and educational institutions alike, facilitating the dissemination of surveys, newsletters, and e-blasts to their databases.

Moreover, Vertical Response has addressed the needs of users across multiple customer channels. In higher education settings, where Salesforce fell short in sending mixed audience emails encompassing students and external partners, Vertical Response has filled the void. Furthermore, it offers a centralized data system for managing bounced contacts, mailable contacts, and unsubscribed recipients while allowing users to send emergency e-blasts promptly.

Overall, Vertical Response has proven to be a reliable platform that caters to various industries and organizations with different communication requirements. Its affordability, ease of use, and versatility make it a valuable asset for any entity looking to streamline their email marketing efforts.

  • Manages bulk email campaigns
  • Designs and delivers emails in industry standard format.
  • Excellent reporting metrics
  • Vertical Response is an excellent service.
I think bulk mail creation, distribution and reporting has been refined to the point that most anyone can use any of the widely available tools to get excellent results. I have passed VR's marketing materials to colleagues.
  • Vertical Response does the job of managing emails and campaigns very well.
VR, MailChimp and Constant Contact all provide similar experience and provide the same function. I use many different tools.
Vertical Response used to be the Gold standard for bulk email design and campaign management. Competitors, (MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc. ) now all provide comparable services and similar pricing. There's no clear advantage to any of them.
Yes
I am well versed in MailChimp, Constant Contact, EventBrite and Vertical Response. They are all comparable.

Small business tool with limited functionality to meet the business's needs as it grew. A great starter tool; but ultimately one will likely move on to more complex tools.
What functionality do you need? What information do you need to know after every email send? Do you want automation? Do you want behavioral information? What kind of reporting should be available? What kinds of integration do you nee? How many leads do you have? How many emails do you expect to send per month?

Price and features drove the decision. Vertical Response had the features we needed at the price we could afford.

  • Getting Salesforce integration to work
Salesforce integration never worked right. We had to abandon.
No
Too small of a product to need such support when you can search the internet. There are better places to spend money.
Support did a good job getting back to me on my needs. There was one issue where I was given an "I don't know" which was very frustrating at the time because it really mattered.
No
I cant think of a singular instance. 99% of the time they were solid and on top of issues and very helpful.
  • Guided email creation
  • Guided email delivery
  • Easy to import and manage leads
  • SFDC integration was weak but this could be out of date knowledge
Sweet and simple. Nothing more to say here.

  • The integration with salesforce was relatively point and click
  • Tracking receipts of emails in the constituent's record in Salesforce
  • The process of updating existing lists is not great. We find that we generally have to rerun the query and save as a new list, a process that is easier than manually adding to the old list
  • If you want to create an email template, you have to have uploaded images to the saved library. If you try to create a new email using an existing email and the existing email contained images that were uploaded directly to the email, you'll get an error when trying to send. The error wasn't well explained. This caused us to call in (after trying several times) to figure out the problem. However, the support process was quick and helpful to diagnose this.
  • You have to call in to get the Vertical Response product attribution removed from the emails you send. After doing so once, it's removed on all future emails.
  • While the product is also used to communicate with existing customers, the primary KPIs are around warm leads, qualified opportunities, and closed deals generated or associated with marketing emails sent
It's met our needs to date

  • Email marketing for upcoming webinars, prospect communication, invitations to customers for our customer online community. Tracking for announcements to existing customers about upgrades to our product.
ExactTarget and MailChimp
ExactTarget, MailChimp. I liked VerticalResponse's integration with Salesforce. We used MailChimp before and it says on their website they have integration with Salesforce, but we were never able to find it on the Force.com website.

For ExactTarget, we used that in the past and it did integrate with Salesforce. Someone else evaluated and selected that. Unfortunately, I can't remember why we didn't go back to ExactTarget. It may have been price. Either way, of the 3 we selected Vertical Response.
  • Implemented in-house
Click a few buttons in salesforce & it's in place.
  • Self-taught
Yes, easy to learn with out training. We did fine via "self-taught".
No
Standard support has been sufficient
A couple of times I've had to wait on hold for 10 minutes. Otherwise it's been good. The support reps have been knowledgeable.
The product is easy to use and understand. WYSIWYG sometimes produces HTML that has to be troubleshot in the pure HTML view (for things like table cells and rows) versus within the WYSIWYG editor.
Never had an issue with uptime
No issues
  • Salesforce
Point & click to set up Salesforce integration.
  • not at this time
Simple, sign up was online.
Just what they had online. Sometimes they'll send emails with discounts if you buy credits in advance at that time.

  • Handles all of our contact management and email marketing needs for a small non-profit and is free!
  • VR doesn't have the robustness of a tool such as Salesforce.com in managing relationships and ongoing individual contacts and communications, for instance, but it is just right for our needs as a small non-profit.
  • Replacing our manual contact management solution and now having analytics available, saves us at least 10 hours per month, and growing as our organization expands, and provides important feedback from our email marketing campaigns.
It works well for our current and foreseeable needs, and is free for non-profits, at this point. Plus all of our contact data, historical emails and newsletters are stored.
Browser-based newsletter creation is great, as you can see what recipients will see as you develop content; connecting to social media is a breeze.
  • Contacts Management, Marketing Email development and response analysis
Salesforce.com, manual spreadsheet based.
Constant Contact, MailChimp. Vertical Response covered our basic needs - contacts management, newsletter and marketing email activity analysis, templates/wizards, etc. and was free for non-profits up to 10,000 contacts/month.
  • Implemented in-house
Easy to use SaaS solution and downloads, as needed. We were up and running in 2 hours.
  • Online training
  • Self-taught
Basic functions and online help...we used what was needed, at the time, and will continue to explore other online trainings as our functional needs expand.
Yes. One of the things that drew us to VR was access to just the modules we needed, and associated training was straight forward for those.
No
We replaced Salesforce.com, which required considerable ongoing support, with VR for its simplicity. There are no technical requirements as the solution is cloud-based. Once trained, we've been comfortable on our own. If support is needed, VR provides as needed (free of charge) and is responsive.
Customer Service and Support have been great, so far.
