Our Business Systems and Sales Operations teams use DemandTools every day for various work. It solves mass data update requests that are much more cumbersome to do in DataLoader. This tool has much more functionality and essentially makes SF DataLoader useless.
  • Mass data updates.
  • Mass record inserts.
  • Mass record re-assignments.
  • Mass record deletes.
  • The performance of the interface could be better. The app frequently freezes for large data manipulations (100K+ records)
  • Performance in all tools could be sped up.
Mass data updates, mass record inserts, mass record re-assignments,mass record deletes, mass data manipulation in general.
  • Positive: Much faster mass data manipulations
  • Positive: Much better tool than DataLoader, essentially replaces it
  • Positive: Very fast territory updates, which leads to more sales in our Sales Org.
DemandTools is essentially the best mass data manipulation tool on the market for working with Salesforce data.
DataLoader is old, out-dated and cumbersome to use. This tool is what DataLoader wishes it could be and essentially replaces it as it surpasses it in every way possible.

Some of the key features of DemandTools over DataLoader are the "expert logic" checkbox which allows for detailed logic-based searches, saving scenarios (repeatable tasks) and the PowerGrid tool in general. After beginning to use DemandTools in 2016, I have used DataLoader maybe 1 time since.

The only use case for DataLoader over DemandTools is to view/export deleted records. That is so far the only thing I've found that DemandTools cannot do that DataLoader can.
Their support is fantastic. Very responsive and helpful. Never had an issue with them that wasn't resolved withing 2 business days.

My organization uses DemandTools to keep our marketing and enrollment data within Salesforce merged, deduped, and accurate. Its use benefits our entire organization. I use it to make sure all our leads get merged with one another, as we receive them from multiple sources, through multiple engagements with our prospective families. This allows for advanced analysis across the leads' entire lifecycle, by allowing us to merge and keep all campaign member records from each individual lead.
  • Reduces time spent manually merging duplicate records within our database
  • Allows me to fully customize the scenarios I run to query for potential duplicates
  • Much faster and more efficient than searching for potential duplicates through the SFDC UI
  • Allows me to define the data I want to keep on the resulting record
  • I would love if DemandTools could be changed to work more like CRM Fusion's other related product, DupeBlocker. I would like if it handled duplicates within the Single Table Dedupe in the same fashion as DupeBlocker, where the older, original lead remains the "master" and the newer lead's data gets appended to it. With DemandTools, you are limited in your options for master record selection. Within DemandTools, I am forced to choose "Newer Record" as my master, because I want to retain the most recent contact details. However, this causes me to also overwrite my lead created date with the newer lead's information, thereby resulting in lead created date values which don't reflect the true creation date of the original lead.
  • I would also prefer the ability to create tasks with details of the merge.
DemandTools is well suited to identify and merge duplicate records within a Salesforce.com CRM database, especially one with multiple entry points (i.e. web forms, other systems, uploads, etc.). It doesn't provide real-time merging on insert, you'll need a product like DupeBlocker for that, but it's great for batch cleansing, updating, and merging existing records. They also have great customer support, which I always like to hear prior to selecting a product.
  • When I first started in my current position, prior to running DemandTools single table dedupe, we appeared to have had 70% of our applicant bypass our marketing efforts, and apply directly. However, after an intense week of merging, I was able to reduce this number to 30%, which highlighted how our marketing efforts had helped influence 70% of our applicant class.
  • This product facilitates much better customer service, because once a new lead gets merged, it allows our outbound calling reps, email team, and analytics groups to see a full picture of a lead's past activities. We typically receive leads with varying levels of data quality, accuracy, and amount of contact information (name, address, email, phone, etc.). I can only configure our on-insert merges to work for ones I'm 100% confident should be merged. However, with DemandTools, I can query for duplicates on much looser criteria, thereby casting a wider net, to help potentially identify duplicate leads that may not have been caught otherwise.
I have previously used native batch deduplication functionality within a previous CRM system, RecruitmentPlus. While I liked how that system could run multiple queries at once, to look for duplicates under multiple scenarios, it lacked the flexibility DemandTools provides to create my own fully-customizable scenarios.

They've been extremely helpful with any question I've ever had. They also provide very informative training webinars on a regular basis.

I was able to get a recorded version of a webinar sent to me when I had to drop-off prior to completion for another meeting. It allowed me to finish the training on my own time, without having to repeat the entire thing.

  • The tools for deduping records are very complete. Not only will it clean up duplicates within the same database, but you can compare leads to existing account and existing contacts to look for duplicates in separate databases.
  • They have several ways to do mass updates of multiple records at one time, and I had done updates of 50,000+ records at one time so it will handle large batch updates.
  • I have yet to find something that I think they do poorly. The tool is focused in some very specific areas but handles those areas very well.
I wish they would add a mass delete tool it would be a nice addition to the package.
  • The most easily quantifiable return is the cleaning of duplicates. When we first loaded data into Salesforce we had no tool for cleaning duplicates and were loading spreadsheets that a number of different people had collected and maintained over the years, along with lists we got from vendors and trade associations we work with. We had a ton of duplicates in the system but within 30 days of of implementing DemandTools we were able to eliminate 30% of our database of over 400,000 total records from accounts, contacts and leads. This was not eliminating names but just cleaning up the mess we had loaded. Since then i have had our data looked at by several different people outside our company for multiple different reasons, and in most cases I got positive feedback about how duplicate-free our database is.
I can't imagine use Salesforce with any significant number of records and not also using DemandTools
  • We use DemandTools to help control data within Salesforce. It is our primary way to clean up duplicate records, do mass updates and edits to records and for reassigning large blocks of records as needed. I consider DemandTools as being like Norton was for Windows in the early days. It provides the utilities you really must have to manage the data effectively

  • Implemented in-house
I had just started using Salesforce about 3 months before I did the implementation myself, and it was easy to do just following their step-by-step instructions.
  • Online training
The trainings are free live webinars that give you a solid base for getting started with the program. The only weakness is they don't have any advanced classes.
No
I rarely have to use it, but when I have used it the responses have been quick and the staff knowledgeable.

  • Easy to learn the basics. Offers more advanced functionality if you take the time to learn.
  • Saves dozens of hours for administrators and end-users use by reducing the number of existing existing duplicates and reducing the number of duplicates created during mass imports.
  • Easy mass record updates.
  • Can be cumbersome when making query edits
  • A basic event import, including dedupe, that might take 8-20 hours using Excel + Data Loader takes one hour.
  • Data import / dedupe. The former is much easier, and deduping is much much faster and cleaner.
Excel + SFDC Data Loader
  • Implemented in-house
  • Online training
  • Self-taught
The training webinars help with the basics but not much if you need advanced functionality.
No
Support can be slow so do not expect quick turn for urgent issues. Help for specific queries not not there. Product tech support is offered. It would be great if query support, even if paid, was offered The training webinars help with the basics but not much if you need advanced functionality.

  • Does everything we need. Allows us to automate tasks nightly for standard clean-ups that occur when humans touch the data – (country, abbreviations, etc…).
  • Database standards = better data
  • Time savings – merge/duplicate processes are almost impossible to measure; mass-reassignment of contact and account owners in hours. Things that would take many, many hours of manual work are done very quickly. Automated and saved processes ensure that you are using identical criteria every time.
Marketing
  • Database hygiene and maintenance
  • Database standards implementation
  • List uploads – SFDC data uploader can be a dangerous tool without a lot of guardrails, this allowed for much more controls
  • De-duplication efforts
Dataloaded in Salesforce.com
Had previous personal experience and their reputation was extremely strong. We had already done due diligence once before and had the product but IT discontinued because no one was using it prior to me requesting.
  • Implemented in-house
Satisfied – no issues.

No
When we were in setup and had some questions, they were very responsive.
Allows for control in uploading lists, saved processes for checking duplicate records. Allows for backup files and quick reverts if something goes wrong. Extends reporting when Salesforce.com cannot support specific pieces of info being put together in a report. Automated processes for set and forget hygiene tasks.
  • Salesforce.com
It's critical for us and works perfectly. As an AppExchange app, the integration is native.
