What is Druva Data Resiliency Cloud?

Druva Data Resiliency Cloud

Workforce mobility and the rise of cloud services is an essential part of any business, but it creates a number of challenges for IT. Data spread across devices and cloud services, unpredictable schedules, and varied network connections all complicate efforts to protect and govern enterprise information.

The Druva Cloud Platform (formerly Druva inSync & Druva Phoenix) provides unified data protection, management, and information governance across endpoints and cloud applications. Delivered as-a-service, the Druva Cloud Platform aims to simplify backup, archival, compliance, and device management to reduce the cost and complexity of protecting end user data, ensure regulatory compliance, and improve data visibility. With centralized management and self-help data recovery, the vendor states that users' mobile workforces are protected without impacting productivity.

Druva's value proposition:

No hardware, no software

  • Delivered as-a-service means leaving behind on-premises infrastructure, hardware refresh cycles and time consuming software maintenance.

Infinitely scalable
  • Built in the cloud, new capacity can be added to subscriptions on the fly without changes to backup settings, and without needing to purchase and install new appliances or software.

No maintenance windows

  • Druva maintains the data protection solution, not the customer; the platform is always up-to-date with the latest features.

Data Protection That’s Different

  • Druva’s SaaS data protection platform boasts less cost and complexity found in solutions that aren’t built for the cloud, while remaining secure, scalable and always available.

I didn't select Druva, nor did I select Veeam. But I found Druva so so so much easier to jump into and understand than Veeam. Maybe it was how it was set up, maybe it was my experience, I'm not sure, but Druva is at the top of my list for back up solutions and Veeam... is not.

Altaro VM backup for Xen and or Hyper-V, as well as MS Azure Cloud backup tools, were both tried and tested but could not support all the system types that Druva Data Resiliency Cloud can form one application interface console.

We ended up getting recommended Druva from a consultant we have worked with before. After reviewing our requirements, they recommended Druva. This was mostly due to the feature set of what it can back up within Office 365. The lack of ingress and egress fees was also a standout feature of Druva. So, we did not evaluate Datto's solution. However, I had the worst salesperson experience with someone pushing Datto, and I felt it was worth mentioning to warn others about it. While this salesperson might not represent how Datto encourages people to sell their product, they wouldn't take no for an answer when told politely that we had already chosen a product. They kept pushing for a demo to prove they were better and ended up being somewhat insulting when the "opportunity" was turned down. I had to block their email address. I never had any experience like that at all during the evaluation and demo stages for Druva. I was pleasantly surprised with how they handled themselves. From my experience, this is what you can expect from Druva. I can't say much about Datto.

  • Veeam Backup & Replication
Druva blew Veeam out of the water. We had constant issues with Veeam and finding a compliant cloud that actually worked how we needed it. We went from struggling to make Veeam work and keep it working, to barely having to monitor our backups. Druva absolutely outperforms Veeam across the board.

Druva was superior to all of the other possible software options as it not only had better features but the way that it protects the data in AWS is above and beyond the rest. Druva has a proven track record for being the best of the best and they are only getting better.

The ease of use between the consoles in Druva is unrivaled! The restore speed blew me out of the water the first time I restored a 150GB server directly from the cloud in under 10mins!

We haven't had any specific back up software installed on our laptops in the past, and I don't know of any other software that Druva was being compared to since I wasn't included in the decision making process.

Overall, Druva inSync was the best fit for us, since we needed an endpoint backup that was easy to use, didn't require technicians to touch the device, and allowed for incremental backups. We would have liked an imaging option, but Acronis' imaging option required touching the computer, which we didn't always have the option to. We had demoed Acronis, MSP, and Metallic, and found that this was much easier both on the implementation side of things, but the restoral side of things as well. Also, their unlimited option was much better priced than others.

Backup made so easy

In terms of product support, Druva Cloud Platform is much better than Veeam backup. Our major point for selecting Druva Cloud Platform was that it helps large organizations backup data to a specific network and also helps restore data in less time. Compared to Veeam, it has been easy to use for any user due to its product support.

We looked at a few other products like the Veeam Agent (using on-prem storage) and Carbon Black. Those two examples fall into two categories as far as shortcomings for us. On-prem storage solutions like the Veeam Agent tend to be expensive unless the scale is already extremely large. Products like Carbon Black (at the time at least) did not offer an Unlimited Storage option, which is a no-go if some users have multiple terabytes of data.

Code42 stopped supporting Windows servers, so we needed to move to another vendor that could support our Windows server in the cloud ASAP. Druva was able to do so and also cover our on-premise servers. The cost went up slightly to move to Druva, but we added a great deal more coverage with Druva (G Suite backup and compliance).

Druva did what it said it did, and it was clear about it. Druva sales didn't BS us as the other backup vendors did. The other backup vendors made promises that, when we moved to a POC, were not borne out.

  • Veeam Backup & Replication
We've used Veeam Backup & Replication in the past to backup our on-premise environment. Once we started decommissioning our on-premise servers and environment, we felt that Veeam Backup & Replication was no longer a good fit for our new environment, so we did not re-new out maintenance and support agreement with them.
