Reviews
(26-50 of 52)From raw data to interactive dashboard
- Data Connectors: Dundas BI can connect natively to SQL (relational and OLAP/Tabular), SharePoint, Excel, and a slew of others. The system is flexible enough to allow a user to create their own data connector not available out of the box
- Visualizations and Interactions: The standard visualizations do a great job of helping us tell a story with our data. Bar chart, pie charts, watefalls, pareto charts, etc., are all simple to set up with the ease of drag and drop. Likewise, the wizards for creating interactions on charts is great.
- More advanced customizations and interactions can be accomplished via script.
- HTML5: Dundas BI is based on HTML5, so it will work in any browser.
- SharePoint/webapp integration: With the use of a web part, dashboards can be embedded within a SharePoint page. We can also take a dashboard we create and embed it in a custom web application.
- The interface, while very nice, can be confusing to a new user. It takes a little getting used to, although I'm not sure I have any suggestions on making it better.
I think where we may not need to use Dundas BI is when someone requests a data dump or Excel style report or just a table filled with data without the need for visuals. While Dundas BI can handle this with no issues, sometimes it's easier to send an Excel sheet as a one off data dump and turn it into a dashboard if that data is needed more often.
Great BI Tool from Great Company
- Flexibility, I always tell my customers that you don't need to harm your brain in thinking how to do it in Dundas BI, you just need to think what to do. the tool is so flexible with open API and depending on common programming languages like .Net, JS and HTML5. you can do what ever you want.
- Single Experience, you don't need to have multiple interfaces for multiple devices like desktop or mobile, whatever you see in the desktop you will see the same in the mobile. sometime it is great to connect to Dundas through the mobile and complete the design of your dashboards.
- Friendly Tool: unlike other tools, Dundas was designed in attractive way that brain can accept it from first view, with little training or by watching the videos on Dundas website, you can start designing your work.
- Responsive design: latest version of Dundas BI (V3) allows you to design one dashboard that it applicable on all devices.
- Easy to install, and easier to upgrade to latest versions. one install file from Dundas website is enough to install the tool with minimum requirement.
- Supporting large subsets of data like million of records, even the in-Memory analysis is there, but I believe that the tool is running slowly once you run dashboard with millions of records.
- Out of the box support for social media data sources like facebook, Twitter even they are available on other websites.
- Enahance the support for big data connections.
Dundas BI is less appropriate if you want to use the tool as pure data analysis tool specially for non IT people.
Excellent Data Visualization Software
- Professional looking data visualizations with flexible presentation options.
- Software could be geared more toward an average user as opposed to a technologically advanced user.
Why Dundas BI is a "have to have" dashboard solution
- Linking to various data sources
- Charts and chart types
- Easy to build a table
- Style and feel of product.
- Deployment model for user and also technology is easy to understand and deploy. I have worked with dashboard solutions since 1994 (10 different technologies) and Dundas BI has been the easiest to install and roll out - easy to understand and use. Obviously building a dashboard can still be complex, but it the ease to roll out that is awesome.
- Even more grid like functionality to rival Excel (standard user compare to)
- More Excel like simplicity in using a grid.
- Better guessing at what type of chart to default and some more default styles
DundasBI delivers what it promises, high vaue, low risk
- Integration with Excel into the canvas is working extremely well. It amazes me every time again. So simple and so effective.
- The flexibility to develop your own look and feel. All other tools talk about it but Dundas BI really offers flexibillity
- I would really like to have more options for making Infographics. Dundas BI offers extreme data visualization, now text visualization!
Best Up and Coming Solution.
- Ability to quickly gin up what ifs and examples to help management visualize how best to see their data.
- Comprehensive platform from data sourcing to visualization.
- Fully browser based and mobile ready.
- Flexible pricing model uniquely using concept of concurrent users and elasticity.
- Three dimensional visualization would be nice to add, not a have to have, but would be nice to have.
More than just your Fathers Dashboard tool !
- Continued growth and maturity of its products over the years.
- Has proven to be a relatively simple application to implement with little customization necessary.
- Dundas BI has an extensive and proven data source collection making integration of multiple disparate data systems virtually seamless.
- Allows for fast data modeling and visualization deployment.
- Although not a hard application to understand, Dundas BI can appear intimidating and non-intuitive to new developers until, through proper training, the lexicon and development stages are understood.
- Their examples libraries are fairly extensive and growing, however having more online samples and multimedia examples are always welcome.
- Dundas BI is very easy to install. They have clearly put a lot of work into packaging their software and also ensuring it is smart enough to go out and get the things it needs if they don't already exist. It is really easy to install.
- Dundas BI, by using HTML5, makes it very easy to visualize the data. Every modern browser now supports HTML5 without requiring Silverlight, Java, or some other clunky technology that has recently been banned by Homeland Security.
- Dundas BI makes it very easy to create data connections and start to build the dashboards that bring value to your organization. Everything is done in an easy to use and figure out interface. You can also drag and drop data right into the panes as usable data. Very slick.
- Not too many cons for how we use the application. It really is easy and powerful. Very powerful.
- Licensing is one thing that could be looked into. It is simple, but a little confusing. For example, if I get a license today, but a new release comes out tomorrow, it seems that the license doesn't work with the new release. Maybe that is by design, but it would be nice to clearly understand.
Happy with the selection
- Simple to implement and maintain.
- Flexible - We were able to accommodate several integration scenarios.
- Development environment that is easy to learn.
- Dundas BI is a relatively new product. While I am very happy with the product, I look forward to the continued addition of new features as the product evolves.
- I would like to see a more extensive set of documentation.
Honest review, there are parts of Dundas BI I haven't touched so I did not review those parts.
- It's a robust platform that has a lot of versatility for your average user.
- It has powerful developer tools for creating dashboards.
- There's been some feature requests I've made, however they are recent so I'm unaware where they will go.
- There needs to be more documentation for developers.
Don't be an A$$ use...Dundas!
- Dundas BI has an open API allowing for quick connectivity into proprietary databases.
- The graphics are second to none.
- The ETL package is perfect for data users who need to move and transform information.
- The product should be offered as a desktop offering so smaller firms can take advantage of its power.
Dundas BI - The Extensible BI Platform
- Integration - Dundas BI has an extensive API that allows for almost limitless flexibility. The available APIs include .NET, JavaScript, and REST APIs. By leveraging the API functionality and standard web development tools like jQuery and CSS the application is extremely easy to customize. Need to include a bootstrap menu or component within your dashboard? Add the bootstrap CSS and insert the necessary HTML in the page. The HTML5-based nature of the application makes it super easy to work with.
- Load balancing - Load balancing is included right out of the box with Dundas BI. Installing a secondary instance and connecting it to your existing Dundas BI database is a simple 10 minute task. Dundas has done a great job here with making installing and managing multiple instances very straightforward.
- Mobile - Dundas BI has outstanding mobile support out of the box. Again, the HTML5 based nature of the tool makes easy work of creating resizable dashboards/components that work on a wide variety of devices and screen resolutions. Obviously, touch-based events are also supported.
- Data Connectivity - Dundas BI includes a wide variety of data connectors out of the box. However, you're also free to create your own data provider using the Dundas BI API if needed.
- Platform - Dundas BI represents a comprehensive BI platform in a single package. It is not just a visualization tool. While we are leveraging SSAS as our primary data source, Dundas has included a built in OLAP engine within the product for companies who wish to implement everything within the platform. The inclusion of R server integration is a nice added bonus.
- Product Maturity - Dundas BI is still a relatively new product on the market--recently releasing their second major version. There is the occasional unexpected behavior or feature that seems to be missing/incomplete. Dundas support is very responsive with these items and tends to release several minor updates between major releases to remedy these issues.
- Documentation - Again, this is a maturity discussion. Dundas is doing a great job adding new content to their support site. However, they still have some progress to make in this area.
- User Community - Dundas does not have an interactive user community that I am aware of. A product of this scale almost demands a forum or similar platform to allow users to collaborate, share code 'snippets' and generally show off what can be done with the product.
Dundas BI - Great System
- Visualizations: we've worked with numerous dashboard and BI solutions and the visualizations that come out of Dundas BI can't be matched.
- Performance: Dundas BI is extremely robust.
- Support: The Dundas support team is absolutely top notch.
- Complex: Dundas BI is extremely comprehensive, we've found there's little it can't do. This though comes at somewhat of a cost, as it can become complex.
Dundas BI - You get out what you put in.
- Dundas BI provides a user interface that is both powerful and user friendly. You are able to quickly pull data out for consumption, and with more effort provide a very polished and professional presentation of the data.
- Dundas the company is vested in the successful deployment of the platform and has been exceptional in their support and involvement of our implementation.
- Dundas BI is very flexible in allowing connections to most any data source, and provides the ability to script data transformations as part of the data cubes.
- Dundas BI can be intimidating to initial users. There are a lot of options which make the platform very flexible, which can also make some of the features difficult to implement correctly. While you don't need to be a BI expert to get information from Dundas, you do need to speak "Dundas" to build the more complex dashboards.
- The Dundas BI interface can be non-intuitive at times, and some tasks which should be very simple may require contacting support to find the correct way to perform them.
All roads lead to...
- As a software package, Dundas BI is extremely flexible - if you can dream it, you can most likely build it in Dundas BI. The possibilities are quite literally limitless. This puts Dundas BI is a position of strength relative to other BI vendors since DBI doesn't limit a user to a canned set of pre-defined visualization types; those do exist, but are not the end of the story.
- Since the software is based on the latest technologies (HTML5, CSS and JavaScript) Dundas BI is in a unique position to capitalize on the ever-expanding Internet of things. Try doing that with other major BI players, most of whom rely on some form of legacy technology (trust me, we looked).
- As a company, it is obvious that Dundas has made product support a priority. As a software provider who provides support to clients, I'm rather persnickety about support; the Dundas BI support team provides consistent, concise support in a timely manner. If the first line support team doesn't know the answer, they have access to the developers and the professional services team. Dundas BI support rocks!
- This is something that I believe Dundas is currently working on - I would like to see more documentation (with examples) on the Dundas BI JavaScript API.
Why Choose Dundas BI
- SUPER EASY to use!
- Flexible, no matter what kind of data they make it easy to slice and dice quickly and easily.
- Alerts - these are so handy for companies that can't monitor data 24 / 7.
Powerful, flexible, AND easy to use
- Data access - Dundas BI has built in data connectors for every type of data we have needed, from Excel to SQL Server, to Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Google Analytics. Connecting to data is a breeze.
- Sharing objects and resources between projects is easy and saves a lot of time.
- Visualizations are very flexible and customizable.
- Scripting is easy with the JavaScript API.
- Dundas BI provides the ability to use dynamic measures and hierarchies, but the period over period calculations (PoP) are not supported with dynamic elements when the dynamic element is a time hierarchy. For example, if the requirement is to allow users to select Fiscal Year vs. Calendar Year, we are not able to then use PoP calculations.
