We have a vast amount of data that comes into and is created by our internal systems. Until we found Dundas BI, we had no real repeatable way to visualize this data and effectively mine it for good information. We are using it in a few departments initially, but have plans to roll it out our entire organization within the year.
- Dundas BI is highly flexible out of the box. It has nearly all standard visualization types and some that aren't as standard.
- The style (look & feel) of the visualizations are customizable in almost every way.
- The ability to connect to a large amount of data sources is powerful. It allows us to mix data from several systems and visualize it all together.
- They expose REST, .NET, and JavaScript API's that give a software engineer the ability to connect to many other (proprietary or otherwise) data sources, as well as, changing the behavior of visualizations if so desired.
- They are currently not as mobile friendly/responsive as I would like as some of the "touch" features don't work as I would expect.
- With great flexibility comes some complexity. The learning curve is short but a bit steep. Better documentation would be extremely helpful.
- Security is a bit lacking. Low level security is lacking completely if you plan to use a pre-compiled data cube. However, they have informed us that a new feature set will be released soon to fill this gap.
We found that Dundas BI struck the perfect balance between ease of use and flexibility, while still remaining within a reasonable budget. Other products were either to technical, lacked functionality, or "broke the bank".

Dundas .. Great but a little quirky
It is used to create BI reports for our customer. We custom create the templates for all our customers as the software allows for multi-tenancy. This means when anyone logs in it will be tailored to their needs. This also means we can connect to multiple databases and further tailor to our customers' needs.
- Easy to publish from a working in progress /demo to the live version
- Easy to pick up and do someting
- Working with cubes makes manipulating data quite easy
- Report pagination to be improved... It's just very clunky and hard to figure out
- It needs to make hierarchies more straightforward. they don't work as expected and a separate cube just to set up the structure of the hierarchy
- Make multiple connections possible with multitenancy
Much better for multi-tenancy. Power bi just doesn't have many features and is just lackluster. Telerik doesn't look as good although slightly more powerful with data manipulation. Too many BI reporting tools out there don't offer multi-tenancy and I have no idea why. It is pretty important. Dundas is just the best if multitenancy is needed

We are using Dundas BI across our entire organization. It is owned and managed by our central Business Operations team but leveraged by groups such as Development, Product Management, Marketing, Sales, Customer Experience, Finance, and HR. Dundas allows us to aggregate datasets from across all of these teams so we can build real-time and ad-hoc dashboards that visualize our entire customer journey - regardless of where the data originates from. This gives us visibility into insights such as how a prospect's engagement with marketing content may influence later sales conversion or how engagement inside our application may influence a customer's risk of churning.
- Data transformation and warehousing. These are key to ensure data is available from all sources across our organization in a usable format so we can quickly get to the business insights we need.
- Flexible visualization. Dundas offers a deeper visualization engine than any other tool we reviewed. This allows us to present any type of data + non-data driven content in real-time dashboards.
- Flexible Pricing Model. Dundas has many different pricing options so we were able to choose one that made the most sense for us and fit into our budget.
- Complex interface for building dashboards. The cost of flexible visualization is a lot of steps to build a dashboard. There's a steep learning curve for new users but once the creation process is learned, it becomes very smooth.
Dundas and Sisense are very similar. Both are very powerful and flexible with an eye toward further innovation. I expect both will do well as we enter a major transition period for BI.
Periscope Data and Dundas differ substantially and seem to have different paths forward. Periscope is very focused on fast performance and requires SQL to build reports. Dundas is focused on flexibility and strong visualization.
Looker is another tool that is similar to Dundas. Looker comes in at a higher price point and seems focused on embedded dashboards and in-app analytics (although both platforms provide this).

Dundas BI from a Non-Techie
Dundas BI is being implemented in our organization as a visualization tool to display data to internal and external customers via our custom web portal. We are using it to slowly replace static reports wherever possible and training more users to create their own tools in Dundas BI. Right now it is being used by a few users in every department and a few customers in each of our markets, but the goal is to roll it out to all customers and eventually have all internal users interacting with it on a daily basis.
- It is extremely customizable through the use of HTML, JavaScript, and CSS if required.
- Very easy to start using for non-power users. With a friendly interface.
- Data Cubes make further data cleanup/crunching/merging easy for non-DBAs.
- Some default formatting is tedious to remove if it does not fit into your overall aesthetic.
- Data Cubes are very powerful, but require a little but of knowledge of data structures.
- Not ideal for real-time data display.
Dundas BI offers a high level of visual customization in the dashboards if required (through CSS, JavaScript, HTML) as well data customization (C#) in the data cubes. We are an organization that believes in doing as much as possible for ourselves and not replying on contractors. We already have an available pool of talent in the above mentioned technologies so we knew we would be able to get a lot done no matter what we wanted to do without having to hire consultants. Most of the other products we evaluated were not as straightforward in their customization or did not offer all of the customization options that Dundas BI does.

Most of our clients experience richness and depth of information via clean and crisp statistical visualizations rendered through Dundas BI 2.5. The Dashboards we create are a means of visualising our client's risks and helping them successfully manage them through the aid of the various statistical methods and data visualization tools Dundas BI 2.5 offers.
It addresses the need for a proactive and dynamic tool, a tool which visualizes statistical data and allows the user to post process and assemble a graphical user interface which is completely customizable, for all tastes and needs.

- Dundas BI, offers the ability to create Manual SQL statements, this is very good because the user is in full control of what data is visualized, the SQL statements are used to filter and create structures called Data Cubes. These Data Cubes then form the basis for the graphical statistical UI's.
- Dundas has great support guys, they will assist you with good explanations, and when all else fails, they offer Citrix (webex) sessions, where you and one of their expert support staff share screens and they take hold of your mouse through remote access and help assist you with whatever the issue may be. I have always been helped by them, they are friendly, understanding and always willing to go the extra mile to assist their customers.
- Dundas BI 2.5, is great because it runs in HTML, the HTML version allows users to embed the dashboard securely and easily.
- BI runs using JavaScript scripts, they are easy to learn as well as powerful.
- Consider publishing a book, filled with a say 4 week course, from the ground up, no SQL for beginners that can be done on www.w3schools.com, but detailed step by step scenarios, using a readily available database. with all script mechanics and tutorials structured in a self learning style.
- I am always keen to have more step by step examples, members of the Dundas community should all host a forum similar to sourceforge.com (where there are a number of people using Dundas and helping other users debug their dashes).
- Explanation of limitations, understanding what is possible and what isn't.
- it would be nice to have better debugging for the scripts.
- Better menu control in the BI 2.5 interface, the old 5.0 GUI was slightly better for development purposes, but 2.5 is faster and more ductile, so its a 2 way knife edge on this one.
- FAQ's page, more detail, loads of queries, examples, support.
I have evaluated 3-4 different Dashboard products, Dundas being one of them, Dundas is better because of the way it allows the user to be in control.
Dundas is revolutionizing statistical data visualization with the ability of portfolio creation, giving the dashboard a really cool feel. any kind of dashboard is possible because Dundas allows the user to create broad colour schemes.
OFC if mathematical specialist functionality is needed there are still statistical moguls such as Mathlab and Minitab to contend with.
