Dynatrace is used company-wide to detect, and act on all problems within our infrastructure! We absolutely love the product and continue to grow with it here in our organization. We are looking forward to many more years with the product as we perfect its implementation here at our organization.
  • Detect problems.
  • Alert problems.
  • Cost.
Dynatrace is great for all kinds of organizations. We are able to detect issues not only in our infrastructure but also in our end-user devices as they experience problems. We also have issues where the help desk tends to stumble on, and we toss Dynatrace on it and wham! We get root cause details right away!

Dynatrace is being used across the organization to monitor various endpoints and services for parameters such as high CPU usage, unavailability, and other intermittent issues before the business gets affected. No competitors come close to the performance monitoring capabilities of Dynatrace.
  • Comprehensive application monitoring.
  • Usage statistics of the application and services.
  • None that I can think of.
Dynatrace notifies us when any of our services or applications go down or reach a threshold where there is a risk of failure. We can take corrective action in time before it's too late and avoid catastrophes. We configure all our endpoints related to integration services and critical applications on Dynatrace to avoid business impact.

Dynatrace is used to monitor the traffic from consumers to our products and services. It also tells us how the requests are coming and the servers responding to them. It can also let you know if the servers are performing well or not. It gives you a sitemap kind of structure that lets you know the entire request path which helps in debugging. It is an excellent debugging tool.
  • Excellent monitoring tool.
  • Great debugger.
  • Mobile applications.
  • Live report generation.
It is suited for organizations that have high consumer traffic, which helps them in monitoring requests and their server performance. It also gives you an ability to generate a sitemap which gives you the entire flow of the request from the start until the end which helps in debugging quickly. The only drawback I could think of is the report generation is not that efficient. It could have been better if the reports could have been exported in a PDF format.

We used Dynatrace to identify performance problems across our suite of ERP systems that included Sage X3, a custom work order management application, a custom application to extract BOMs from CAD drawings, and time and attendance software. The systems were connected with Web Services and many direct Database calls. Our SQL Server Enterprise software ran about 30 different databases. We had about 11 different sites accessing our servers in a COLO data center.

The user experience was terrible, but we didn't know if it was the network, WAN (DIA circuits on VPN), Servers (Virtualized), SAN performance, Database performance, or slow performance from the ERP servers managing web services. Using Dynatrace, we started seeing several problems. First, the database server was running at high CPU utilization and high Memory utilization. We moved non-ERP databases to a different server. Then we started seeing buffer overflow errors and that led us down the path of examining the I-O operations on the SAN. We concluded that the IO demand exceeded the capacity of our SAN (a 4-year-old Hybrid SAN). We determined that we needed to upgrade to an All-Flash array (Pure Storage), and replace two of the 4 hosts with faster-performing Servers. While the CPU cycles were not maxed, we needed faster IO to handle user demand.
  • Analyzes and reports of user experiences from keyboard to screen refresh.
  • Uses AI and historical performance to detect changes in the environment and performance.
  • Extremely easy to install and deploy with very little risk of breaking applications.
  • It is very expensive but very powerful.
Dynatrace is very powerful and can analyze end to end performance simply by adding the agent to workstations and servers you want to instrument. It is very easy to install, and quick to be fully up and running. It is not suited for huge installations unless you're willing to fork over huge bags of cash, but it works very well on what systems you instrument.

Dynatrace is heavily used by development teams across the entire organisation to manage the software development environment. The biggest positive from using Dynatrace is that code debugging has become extremely efficient - faster as well as more accurate. Additionally, Dynatrace is used to monitor the performance of several of our application environments, especially in production.
  • Dynatrace AI is quite useful in providing updates
  • Intuitive - Dynatrace is very quick to setup and easy to use
  • Deeper insights into container application monitoring when compared to most other tools
  • Dynatrace is not very affordable for SMEs
  • The more advanced features are not very intuitive and require formal training
  • Does not integrate with legacy version systems
For larger organisations that deal with continuous integration and continuous deployment, Dynatrace can improve the efficiency of your rollouts tremendously. The application monitoring tools are top-notch in the industry.
However, Dynatrace is quite expensive! If you run a small or medium enterprise with tight budget constraints, you might want to consider a simpler alternative.

Dynatrace Application monitoring is being used for a particular project for a banking client in UK for Wipro. We are using this product for providing the application performance management where we can see various aspects in terms of performance of the application we are running. Ee have even evaluated AppDynamics for this use case but we have picked up Dynatrace.
  • Context Specific drill down from the dashboard to the class level
  • Outstanding support around Windows and Linux
  • Easy to install and get it running
  • Helps to determine the root cause of the problem in a very good way
  • Not enough focus on roles and empowering the adminisrators of Dynatrace of the SaaS version
  • Under high load, performance of Dynatrace is not that good. I feel this is where it can improve.
  • A bit difficult to automate the different processes that users occupy with the different applications.
Well suited scenarios - Drilled down to the class level of the code from the dashboard which helps in doing the root cause analysis of the problem.

I'll not pick this tool for the cloud environment as I felt installation on the cloud servers is bit difficult. I wish there was a feature that would allow a Dynatrace administrator to remotely uninstall/remove the cloud agent from the Dynatrace management console without having to physically log on to each server to achieve that task.

Dynatrace is being used by Network/IT team to monitor, report, analyse and improve our enterprise application and network performance.
  • Live data collection and presentation with great graphic and report functionalities.
  • Deep dive analysis on application and network performance, reporting alarms, errors and any downgraded behavior.
  • Easy to use and simple self-configured rules to set up the abnormal behavior you are interested in.
  • The technical documents need to be improved a bit as there were some missing explanations of technical parts. I had to escalate [an issue] to Dynatrace engineering support to get it explained.
In one of the projects I worked on last year Dynatrace was successfully set up to monitor the performance of a critical application in my company.

Dynatrace has become our first go-to for everything Systems & Application related. We currently use Dynatrace to monitor our entire Azure production environment. Dynatrace gives us visibility into every aspect of our Infrastructure and user experience elements. We started out with just the Systems team, using it for monitoring and troubleshooting of varied issues. Our Development team uses it to troubleshoot code issues and bottlenecks. The detailed insight into our stack is quite helpful when troubleshooting. Our Operations team now uses Dynatrace Session Replay to assist our students when they are having trouble with the site.
  • Monitoring inside containers. Dynatrace was the first product that had this capability. Being able to see inside our containers is important to our overall health picture.
  • Session Replay is a unique function that allows us to see a user session in 4k video, from login to log out.
  • Davis, the Dynatrace AI, is quite helpful to me. I invoke it every morning to get an overview of my stack every morning.
  • More data export options would be beneficial.
Whether you are cloud, prem or hybrid, Dynatrace has the capability to monitor your entire stack. The SmartScape gives you a graphic overview of your entire stack. When we first installed it, we were surprised to see systems talking to systems they should not be talking to. No matter the size of your business, Dynatrace can monitor it. Through the use of OneAgent, you install it once and you're done! Also, their dashboarding capabilities are amazing! I can now customize different dashboards for different audiences and share them from the client directly.

Dynatrace is used in almost 60% of the applications we monitor. We primarily used Appmon and now we are migrating all the monitoring from AppMon to Dynatrace Managed. This is getting a lot of positive approval from all the application owners.
  • Individual transaction details in Purepath.
  • Visual representation of charts, issues, crashes etc.
  • With Managed, you don’t have to configure each application because it's all auto-discovered. How cool is that!
  • If view access was available in AppMon, it would have helped a lot of users. I work as our Dynatrace admin and we help a lot of application teams set up monitoring. Most of the time application teams wish they had viewing access for the system profile configurations like Measure, BT, and Incidents.
If you have a live environment, I would recommend getting Dynatrace on it. You can set up alerts even before the actual issue hits the business.

We monitor a business critical application stack and the developers and vendors involved with that stack look at the results to improve the product.
  • Tracing user interactions on the website is very useful to see if there are any dead end or navigation issues that can’t be found just by watching logs.
  • App stack detection and automatic grouping is very useful to quickly view your environment.
  • Synthetic tests can make testing comparisons easy to compare.
  • Integration with things that can’t run the OneAgent could be better supported and streamlined.
Finding issues in applications that you just can’t see any other way. There might be problems that don’t end with a crash or error but it still isn’t running as you intended, this is a great tool to finally see that.

Dynatrace is being used by the Retail division to gain visibility into the customer’s experience and help isolate application issues.
  • The capability to go from replaying a customer session to drilling down to the backend call is a wonderful feature.
  • The ease of configuration using the OneAgent plugin.
  • Leveraging the new AI technology to automatically isolate an issue without having to constantly monitor the dashboards.
  • Some of the Dashboard capabilities in the older version are no longer available.
We use Dynatrace to quickly gain insights into the customer experience and drill down to the backend calls that cause the customer experience to be less than optimal.

Dynatrace AppMon is currently used across the company to find root cause analysis and recover from a problem faster than before. No more finger pointing. Dynatrace played a role in shifting the responsibility of designing great and quality software.
  • Helps to find poor code performance.
  • User experience management is amazing.
  • Increases the visibility of the system runtime.
  • License cost (AppMon).
  • Manual tasks to add application (AppMon).
  • Not cloud-ready (AppMon).
An APM like Dynatrace is a must for designing a better and better application over time. I cannot imagine living without it. For ultra distributed systems like a microservice architecture style, it's mandatory to have this kind of tool.

Dynatrace AI engine helps to navigate to the exact problems instead of troubleshooting a needle in the haystack. It helps to find the user sessions and what they are actually doing while having the issues. Infrastructure or network issues can be identified in one place to resolve them. This is a very powerful tool.
  • Problems that show automatically instead of digging into overwhelming data.
  • Session replay helps to find the exact problem which cannot be visible without that.
  • Infrastructure issues can be identified in one place.
  • Network issues can be identified too.
  • Able to store the session replay data to view later (within 35 days).
  • Integrations with different applications.
Session replay is something very helpful to troubleshoot issues which did not have the visibility before.

Currently, we are in POC. We are looking to use synthetic testing, the error alerting and the help in solving errors, and the RUM information to see where we can improve our customer’s experience. We’d also like to use the dashboarding for management and business information. Also we want our developers to use it to see if they’ve introduced problems with their changes.
  • Easy install and setup. Little needs to be done for out of the box functionality.
  • Tries to find the root cause of errors. It doesn't always succeed, but it gives information to help us investigate.
  • I like the added API and I think Dynatrace will continue to make it better.
  • Reporting and longer information to see trends.
  • More community examples of using API, scripts etc.
The synthetics can’t handle Windows functionality which our web site uses. For example, to find files or drag and drop works well to find JavaScript errors. The user information is great: how long they spent, their steps, etc.

Dynatrace is used in our testing environment to gain insights into our performance issues early on in the development cycle. It is solely used by the performance testing team currently, but will soon be changing to be leveraged by the rest of the development departments as well.
  • Very user-friendly instrumentation and configuration of the monitoring infrastructure.
  • Extensive support for the latest technologies.
  • Code level visibility and easy to drill down from environment overviews.
  • Technical support is quite good but could be improved on the expert level support which can take days before [an issue is] addressed.
  • Support for auditing logs for Dynatrace monitoring environment changes.
  • Some PurePaths for .NET applications are broken and it does not show full end to end transaction flows.
It’s really useful in auto-scaling environments where micro-services using Docker and similar technologies are spun upon demand and are auto-detected by Dynatrace agents.

Dynatrace is implemented across all IT departments to better monitor and mitigate problems. It aims to reduce downtime for customers by leveraging the analytical capabilities of Dynatrace.
  • API support.
  • AI and baselining.
  • Building and describing dependencies.
  • Root cause analysis doesn’t always point in the right direction.
  • Sending custom metrics through has a few limitations.
  • More dashboarding features would be helpful.
Well suited for analyzing dependencies and relationships across the environment. Less useful during multiple problem analysis wherein services in question are sometimes shown as part of different issues.

We use Dynatrace for all of our monitoring solutions across our whole organization. We implemented Dynatrace in a hybrid fashion. We are heavily using tagging, user sessions and dashboards for monitoring.
  • We are heavily using dashboards to monitor our environment.
  • We use RUM data extensively to monitor user sessions and app behaviors.
  • Synthetic monitoring is an excellent feature which gives us insight into actual app behavior and response time hotspots.
  • Root cause analysis by Dynatrace AI engine is phenomenal.
  • We do not get insight into webMethods JDBC connection stats like we used to do earlier with CA Wily.
  • We recently got some insight into Kafka metrics but it is very limited at the moment.
  • It would be nice to split docker container ID. Currently, we are getting a vague container name.
KPI’s are excellent for defining conversion goals. Building dashboard is very easy. Installation and maintenance are very smooth.

  • User tagging.
  • Slack alerts.
  • Backtrack feature.
  • End to end transaction view.
  • It should release its Exadata agent as soon as possible.
  • With RUM implementation, if an application is getting broken, Dynatrace should disable it and send a message.
  • The APIs needs to be enhanced.
  • It should provide Splunk-like capability to create dashboards so that I don’t have to ingest its data for dashboarding.
