Dynatrace's ability to track the call through the stack was superior to our previous APM. The presentation of those failures was also superior when compared to the prior product.

Dynatrace is a premier tool for hybrid environments. It also happens to be the most expensive. Dynatrace is bad at pricing and customer success. They charge a premium but do offer one of the better solutions on the market.

New Relic is SAAS only so it was instantly nixed. Our IT Sec wants on premise. CA APM was terrible. Like really bad. They came in for a demo too and it is no where near on par. As complicated as Dynatrace can be. CA is worse by a hundred fold. AppDynamics was our runner up in our last "reevaluate". They do have a solid offering. However they are really just playing catch up to Dynatrace. If somehow going AppDynamics can save you a ton of money versus Dynatrace. I'd say it is a safe option. But Dynatrace is superior

There’s is no other single product that does what Dynatrace currently provides. The combination of user-monitoring, applications performance monitoring, database monitoring, host-level metrics, smartscape to automatically detect the components in the environment are all great features. Dynamic dashboads are unique as well and there is no other competing product that does all of the above and that too, effortlessly.

My Dynatrace review

We brought in 3 different tools but one tool crashed our .NET environment and the other didn't offer as many options as Dynatrace. We started out using AppMon but moved to Dynatrace Managed after seeing what all it offered. We also use Dynatrace Synthetic so our 3 public websites can be monitored to ensure they remain up at all times.

Each of the tools has its own strength and weakness. A few tools like HP fully rely on integration with HP products that do other monitoring. SCOM [does] only their Microsoft products monitoring in depth (.net) not much capability around Java applications. NewRelic is a newcomer in the market when compared to the other three listed above. It has similar capabilities of Dynatrace but is still way behind when compared to Dynatrace. AppDynamics is the real competitor to Dynatrace and where there is a very tough decision we always make to recommend Dynatrace.

There is really no comparison. While AppDynamics is not bad, the Dynatrace technology runs circles around them. When they pitch their product to us, they spent more time trying to downplay Dynatrace then they did shining a light on their own product. The way forward was clear.

Dynatrace goes above and beyond its competitors. We love using it and so do our customers. Dynatrace has thrilled our VPS and managers as it cuts down the number of headaches and helps us get to solutions faster. It helps in keeping staff and customers happy as we perfect our infrastructure for everyone.

In my earlier organization, I used Foglight. It has similar capabilities but it isn't even close to what Dynatrace can do for us here. It was easy to configure Foglight on WebLogic servers to instrument and monitor servers for critical thresholds such as CPU and memory usage, especially on mission-critical applications.

We used Introscope earlier for monitoring. But it has been difficult to configure Introscope due to the metric groupings which takes time and difficult to replicate across different servers. Dynatrace does not need to configure any metric groupings and hence saves time. Dynatrace provides a sitemap of the request which allows you to debug which Introscope lacks.

We looked at AppDynamics, but the installation and data collection mechanisms were far more demanding of IT Infrastructure and too way too much effort. Dynatrace was very quick and easy.
