Ecwid by Lightspeed is a versatile e-commerce solution that caters to the needs of small businesses and individuals looking for a straightforward way to run their online shops. With Ecwid, users can easily manage their entire e-commerce operation, from processing orders and calculating shipping costs to utilizing a payment processing platform. This simplicity makes it particularly appealing to those who are not tech-savvy and prefer an intuitive solution.

During times of physical store closures, like the COVID-19 pandemic, Ecwid has proven invaluable for businesses trying to maintain sales by swiftly shifting their operations online. Trade associations have also utilized Ecwid to offer their members a means to make store purchases remotely when physical offices are closed due to restrictions. Additionally, businesses have found value in using Ecwid as a testing and analysis tool to understand customer interests and behaviors better. Its low cost and user-friendly interface have made it an ideal point-of-sale and website solution for foodservice businesses, allowing different personnel in different departments to leverage its features effectively.

Furthermore, Ecwid serves as a dependable platform for managing and displaying products on websites, seamlessly integrating with popular website builders like Wix. Its flexibility has also been appreciated by businesses that rent equipment, enabling them to utilize the platform for initiating rentals with customers. By offering integrations with other software, such as order management and product review platforms, Ecwid enhances its overall functionality and provides added value to its users.

While many users appreciate the flexibility and economical price of Ecwid, some express a desire for the system to allow recurring billing. Nevertheless, those seeking an all-inclusive e-commerce solution have found Ecwid to be beneficial in creating storefronts for selling unique handmade items. From item upload and management to sales tracking, payment processing, shipping integration, and email notifications - Ecwid covers all essential aspects of running an online shop seamlessly. Moreover, it serves as a connection point for print-on-demand services, enabling businesses to effortlessly incorporate this service directly into their websites.

This flexibility allows them to maintain a consistent look and feel across their online presence while adapting to their evolving business needs.

Hi Alan, we are embarking on a new business venture that will run alongside our main company, and one of our appointed web developers proposed the use of Ecwid. The division is called ProAct-Retail and they will focus on the online retail market for various product lines intended to be sold across South Africa initially.
  • Bulk Product Import works well.
  • Product pages are easily updated.
  • The available payment methods are relatively easy to configure.
  • In my experience, there is an issue with Ecwid's ability to enable customization of our specific Shipping requirements. In South Africa, we have to be very mindful of the associated costs for online shoppers. We cannot do the required level of customization in Ecwid that we need to offer potential clients the best service and online shopping experience.
  • The available store front design templates are very limited.
  • I have had to move to another platform that will allow for customization of the shipping process together with our integrated shipping partner company in South Africa. (MDS Collivery).
Ecwid is well suited for clients that do not require further customization to the existing platform. We need more flexibility to configure the available options. Although one can use the basic design templates available, it's not sufficient.
Ecwid does also a plugin to WordPress, so this is quite a good option.

  • We have not been able to measure the ROI as of yet, as we cannot get out of the gate with customization required.
  • It can be implemented quickly for basic online stores.
  • Once the system is configured, ROI will dramatically go up.
Ecwid was promoted via our appointed developer. It was not our first choice. The back end system works well and is easy to navigate and understand. Although we opted to use WooCommerce because of the flexibility it offers.
