Old yet powerful ETL Tool
- Flexible and stability when transforming large amount of data.
- Better and robust integration with cloud data warehouse.
- We recognized the large project scope and had all stakeholders involved when on-boarding this solution. We had data transformation diagram ready before the implementation work which saved us a tons of potential rework.

The data integration leader
- In large implementation projects, the biggest contribution of Informatica has been to standardize the way things are done, get everyone across the organization on the same page in terms of what to expect, how long will the data processing takes, what data quality is to be expected, etc.
- In projects with hundreds of data pipelines, Informatica makes it easy to define data pipelines that can be auto-configured instead of building one for each table. This greatly reduces the development effort and enables flexibility in massive data migration projects.
- Informatica provides connectors to a multitude of database systems. It's connectors with Redshift, SAP/HANA have gone a notch beyond in order to tailor the data as per the needs of target systems and makes use of their strengths.
- A negative impact has been that departments across the boards are highly dependent on the Informatica setup to deliver their data. Given the usually large scope of projects, the lead time for delivery of a solution can be significant causing losses, monetary or otherwise.

- It works seamlessly with other Informatica products (i.e. Metadata Management, Data Quality).
- Since data is read and written through the network, when you cannot perform E-LT you'll need more hardware.
- Good for a multi-user development environment.

PowerCenter outpowers the cloud version
- Overall, though it can be quite expensive, we’ve gained a lot of positives in both ROI and customer satisfaction with this tool. With the current set-up in a very large company, we can manage the implementation with a single admin and 2 DBA’s, supporting 50+ power users.
- Any time you can free up trapped data and get it into a functional container for downstream tools, it is a win. PowerCenter lets us do this and a lot more.
- I think they should give up on the cloud version and stick to PowerCenter as their main offering. The features are just not there on the cloud, and PowerCenter is very robust.
- I do not care for their customer service. Their first response is always that it's not their fault, so they cannot help. Lots of opportunities to improve there.

Sheer Performance (but not for MacOS!)
- Positive - Made managing data pipelining much easier, cheaper, and faster.
- Because Informatica helps automate ETL workflows, it makes the developer's task much easier by reducing the amount of manual work required.
- Negative - No support on MacOS means that the business needs to use VMs to work on Informatica. This can be very counter-productive.
- It has always been a positive impact

PowerCenter works well with large, structured data files
- The data pipeline automation capability of Informatica means that few resources are needed to pre-process the data that ultimately resides in a Data Warehouse. Once a workflow is implemented, manual intervention is not needed.
- PowerCenter did require more resources and time for installation and configuration than was expected/planned for.
- The lack of or minimal support of unstructured data means that newer sources of dynamic/changing data cannot be easily processed/transformed through PowerCenter workflows.

My personal view of Informatica Enterprise Data Integration tools based on my 10+ years of user experiences.
- Informatica tool set investment overall meets my company's business needs since it ensures our daily business data movements and integrations smoothly.
- But the maintenance cost and license per CPU model may be a little expensive for small companies.

Day to day user's opinion of PowerCenter
- In my role at my company I do not have any insight into the ROI we get out of PowerCenter. I do know however that we recently reuped our contract with the company and installed the more recent version of the product (9.6.1) so I would assume that means we get a fairly good return for our money. And it is used extensively as a component of some of our biggest servicing applications, so that would be a nod in its favor as well.

- Informatica allows us to achieve complex data integration among our systems and into our data warehouse environment. Without this tool in place, hours of manual manipulation would occur to integrate this data and extract it into the appropriate DW solution.
