Entrinsik Informer is a web-based Reporting and Business Intelligence (BI) application. It helps organizations transform real-time data into actionable information by delivering ad-hoc reporting, data analysis and interactive dashboards.https://media.trustradius.com/product-logos/nX/v6/JHQFTF3O54OS.jpegInformer, people are using and loving it without realizing they are using it.Entrinsik Informer is available for use by the entire organization while only a few power users from the main departments actually create their own queries. The product allows a single point for querying multiple systems and databases. The UI allows users not familiar with SQL query commands to easily create complex queries and compile results from multiple files to one output.,Allows the creation of custom fields using JavaScript to provide end users with data directly without the need to do post calculations or cleanup. Many times the results required need a calculation based on the data or a field that is not available for query so being able to code the data into the results helps end users run their reports on their schedule without having to work with a technician. The scheduling functionality allows different departments and users to plan ahead for their needs and either export or email the results. Scheduled reports comes in very handy when you need to export the data to third party companies or to a network location for batch processing. This allows us to provide current data with much more frequency. LiveExcel functionality gives you the ability to connect your query to Microsoft Excel so users do not need to log into the product to run the results. This also allows the creation of VBA Macros to process the data and provide users with the final product on demand.,The product has had its growing pains as newer versions have come out. The transfer of old queries to the newer systems has caused some duplication of mapped files or fields and they have not come up with a tool yet to help merge these duplication. Wish they had better internal reporting so I could easily find the different reports that are using links and the fields they are linking with. I have noticed, being an admin, that the more connections and reports that are available the slower the system becomes when opening it. It would be nice to have nothing come up first and then show more once I drill into the area I want.,8,Datatel Query Builder,8,8Drowning in Ad-Hoc Reports? Get Entrinsik Informer! We use Entrinsik Informer as our reporting tool for our student information system. Any employee may request to be a user for Informer, but we really only have a select group of employees that use it regularly (including myself). We migrated to Informer due to Datatel (now Ellucian) eliminating Query Builder for reporting. Now that we have Informer, it is easier for end-users to create their own reports, which reduces the need to involve IT and thus the end-users get the data they need in a more timely manner.,Informer is pretty user-friendly. When teaching other employees how to use Informer, I typically don't have to repeat any steps or further explain how to do certain tasks because of how user-friendly it is. Reports in Informer are kept in a list that can be filtered by user, specific tags, or even by how recent the report was made or run. This makes it very quick and easy to find and run a specific report. Informer has many options for downloading the report output, including text (txt), comma separated values (csv), and even PDF.,There are a lot of reports that we have in Informer that say they have never been run, even though I know they have been run. So that makes it really difficult to determine which reports can be deleted to keep a tidy report list. The only other complaint I have about Informer is that there doesn't seem to be a properly detailed error code/message when the student information system can't be accessed. For example, I am currently trying to move Informer to its own standalone server and I get an error message saying that our license isn't valid. Informer Support sent a new license, which prompted the same message, and the only explanation they have given me is that Informer can't reach the student information system. I would think that if that were the case, the error message would say that instead of an invalid license.,9,,Dean Evans and Associates Event Management Software, Synoptix,7,9Put information into the right hands with InformerWe use Informer across campus. It changed the way we access information. In the past, power users ran reports for the rest of campus. Now, the entire campus has access to the information they need when they want it. Our IT department writes most of the reports and controls access. For example, all budget managers have access to real-time information. What the budget manager sees is limited to the general ledger numbers they manage. One department can't see another department's numbers. We also have access to course information, demographics, etc. All the information seen depends on your access level. End users love it since all they have to do is fill in a few blanks!,Put information into the hands of those that need it for quick & easy access. Allows security controls so the right people see the right information.,I wish it was easier to write reports on the fly. I would love if I could save the report modifications I make for me to see each time (if I drag column somewhere, it does not stay that way when I open it again).,9,,Blackboard, Google Drive, GoToMeeting,10,10,Exporting to a .csv file Changing input in the Runtime Parameter,Sorting on screen takes a while if you have a lot of data output Writing complex reports,8How did we function without it?We have rolled Informer out across our campus. We went live with Informer in February 2011, coming from a dos-based reporting tool where we had 8 people writing reports. We now have 101 different staff members who have written their own reports. We have 211 users on our campus who have run reports on their own. Most of them received one 2-hour training class to run and manipulate their reports. This has certainly de-centralized the functions away from our IT office running all of the reports. Additionally, this is allowing the end-users to manage their own data on their own timeline. I have been a data analyst for the University for over 20 years, and this tool is by far the easiest to manage. We recently rolled out dynamic dashboards and 43 report-writers attended the training session.,The terms are easily understood. Our report writers and users have an easy time plotting the data to make sure they are receiving the information they need. The ability to schedule on-going reports has been a tremendous time saver. We currently have 260 reports running in a "hands off" mode so they can be delivered to upper management for their needs. Included in this list is a pool of "audit" reports where supervisors can receive a report if there are issues with common data entry standards. Security is easy to manage. We are able to allow all of the appropriate granular security with each user group. The ability to use LiveExcel interaction with our database allows some of our administrative assistants to use their Windows Office skills rather than having to login to the tool itself.,While we do like the new Dashboards, the scale-ability of the graphical representation would be helpful. We had developed a list of "wishes" and submitted them to the Entrinsik forum... and lo and behold, when release 4.4.1 came out, the issues were addressed! We particularly needed the ability to copy parts of the set up from one instance to another. We continue to be users of the Wiki and Forums available to clients.,10,,10,We are close to 95% of the administrative staff using Informer, either as a writer or recipient of scheduled reports. In most cases, Informer training has become a 'day one' activity for new administrative staff.,9,10,8,,1,With a new Capital Campaign underway, we hope to accelerate the distribution of the Key Indicators to the full committee in a real-time method.,Data Mining for research on the KPIs ~ Admission, Retention, Financial Reporting Data Delivery for Financial Reports on a scheduled basis to the appropriate staff and budget officers Data Analysis for a recent conversion completed by the Advancement Office where we managed the entire conversion specifications by side-by-side data analysis of two different datasources.,Using the Dashboards, for Faculty Departments to identify course needs to facilitate scheduling appropriate classes and capacity for upcoming terms. Using Informer to identify changes to Faculty Advisement records for ease of scheduling,Yes,Product Features Product Usability Product Reputation Vendor Reputation Third-party Reviews,We surveyed our administrative database co-workers (Ellucian); and reviewed a few of their suggestions, and Informer by Entrinsik always rose to the top.,Implemented in-house,No,Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled,The understanding that "group" training is generally not a reality on a College Campus. Due to the confidentiality of the data components, the training must be done in very small groups so they will be training on their own data. The willingness of some departments to take on the responsibility of retrieving and reviewing their own data. This had previously fallen to IT and an Institutional Research department. With all of the new federal regulations in just about every department on our campus, they are understanding that they need to control this review.,10,10,No,We were setting up a training class for Dashboard Users, and we were having an issue on security settings. In less than an hour, all of the appropriate flags were set and we were ready to go.,From an IT perspective: The Initial setup, Datasource mapping and file-joins are quite easy. From an end-user, If they know their data, the reporting is quite simple. The user still has to know what they are trying to identify in the report. The dashboard setup takes about 15 minutes to learn,The report writers have to understand the underlying database file structure. The Informer tool is quite simple to manage if you know it. We have tried to provide tools to the reporting units on their file structure as an aid.,10,10,10Get Consistent real-time Unidata Reporting with Informer.Entrinsik Informer is a powerful web-based ERP db operational reporting tool and business intelligence solution. Informer is used here at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff across all administrative offices to report on data contained in Ellucian Colleague. Informer is our primary real time data extraction and administrative reporting solution. Here at UAPB we utilize Informer hourly – almost around the clock. Using Informer's easy to follow UI and Informer's Live Excel features, the power of launching/executing created reports is moved to the person that needs the information.,Informer easily can link tables from a variety of data sources. Reports can easily be created using both fields and JavaScript formulas using feature rich drag and drop column placement Immediately Informer’s LIVE Excel feature is a time saver. Users no longer have to wait for someone else to provide them with real-time data. Informer’s ability to link related Colleague tables together is what allows more data to be collected together on a single report.,Entrinsik should provide at least some usage reports, including a report on reports, report usage statistics including most used and least used.,10,UniQuery,10,Every UAPB administrative office on campus, every UAPB campus budget manager, and every UAPB Ellucian Colleague user on campus does utilize Informer reporting in some way.,10,10,5,9Informer as a User Friendly SolutionInformer is being used throughout the college community. The Informer reporting tool allows users on-demand access to operational data in order to make effective business decisions.,The Informer reporting tool is easy to use for users of all levels of technical expertise. The Informer reporting tool does not require IT support to create reports. Users can create, run and modify reports without requiring IT resources. The flexibility of security administration allows us to grant users access to only the data sources, files, fields, and reports related to their specific jobs. The Informer dashboards allow immediate access to statistics and key performance indicators. Charts and graphs can be designed in minutes to reflect various report results in graphic form. Informer allows us the flexibility of reporting out of multiple databases.,Entrinsik is working to remedy issues related to server memory usage. They are very open to user feedback and consider the relationship with their clients to be priority.,10,,10,We curently have over 400 general report users and over 60 report writers. These users represent all skill levels and all departments at CPCC.,9,8,9,435,4,Informer reports are used in our daily enrollment processes at CPCC. Informer reports are used in the preparation and verification of data to meet a variety regulatory report requirements.,We are using the Informer reports to meet Affordable Care Act reporting requirements. The creation of a Human Resources dashboard reflecting workforce statistics has reduced repeated calls for statistics and freed up resources for other projects.,We are hoping to link multiple data sources to create statistics related information housed in different systems.,Yes,Price Product Usability Vendor Reputation,If we had to do it again, I do not believe we would change our evaluation process. We evaluated several solutions and reviewed all of them based on the short and long term goals of CPCC. The products were reviewed by technical and non-technical members of our organization. The college seems very satisfied with its choice of Entrinsik's Informer.,Informer uses a "drag and drop" technology, which is familiar to most users, to allow users to create reports easily without any programming knowledge.,Complex JavaScript still requires programmer support for most users.,10Informed about Informer!Entrinsik Informer is a web-based reporting tool that connects to our Datatel (ellucian) Colleague database (Unidata). It is a transactional database that allows us to access live and real-time data. There are probably six departments using it at our organization. I am in the College Advancement department (alumni relations and fundraising). It utilizes a GUI user interface that makes it so much easier to write reports rather than having to write programming code. We have four staff in our department who are heavy users and about 15 staff who are running "self-service" reports (they can't change the files, fields, select statements, etc.). No matter who runs the reports, we can export to Excel, Adobe PDF, Saved lists, and other options. The most transformation feature was the ability to schedule reports to email to users. Now, my staff and I can send daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports that we used to have to remember to send previously!,Scheduling reports. We are able to easily schedule emails using many different recurring schedules. We are also able to email outside of our domain, so we can email to our volunteers who don't have an email from our institution. Export choices. We use Excel and PDF predominantly, but have been experimenting with XML. Drag and drop of columns. We are now able to move columns and rearrange easier than in previous versions. User level permissions. Our OIT department controls our permissions, but we are able to have two levels-one for my staff who are the report writers and another for the staff who are the end users of the reports.,Performance-I don't know if it is a problem with Informer or the database, but sometimes it can take up to 45 minutes to run a report and I have to schedule it. Search for email addresses- there is no way to search for a particular email in the scheduling section. So, when staff leave, I can't easily go find all the reports they were receiving. Data analytics-they have a tab called "analytics", but I don't really think that is a fair term to use. It produces really basic pie and bar charts. It can be a little misleading.,9,,10,Within my department, we probably have 19 active users. I think there are probably 20 other users across the rest of campus. So probably 40 (ish) out of 700 employees?,8,3,9Entrinsik InformerInformer is used across campus for ad-hoc and regular reporting. It has allowed the college to consolidate reports so that multiple departments are able to utilize the same report instead of recreating the wheel. In some departments, it has also allowed end users to gather information themselves without relying on IT.,Our users like that reports can include prompts. This allows different departments on campus to use the same report with their own specific criteria. Informer is fairly easy to use. It has allowed some of our end users to create reports on their own. With some training and understanding of the data and design of the database, they have been able to get what they need out of our student information system. Personally, I like the fact that I can write a t-sql query and just copy it to Informer. This is much easier for me as a DBA than having to use the user interface.,We have routinely had issues with Java on our Informer box which require us to reboot the server. Support has been helpful when this occurs but it would be nice if it was easier to troubleshoot the problems on our own.,8,Infomaker,Crystal Reports,Microsoft Query Analyzer,8,Informer is used by most offices on campus with information in our student information system. We have about 700 full time staff and faculty. Our users range in experience and skill levels from very low to extremely capable. It was a difficult endeavor to get users to adopt Informer but now I think they would be upset if we were to eliminate it.,7,8,1Entrinsik's Informer - a valuable reporting toolWe use Entrinsik's Informer for the majority of our reporting from the Student Information System. Informer is used by virtually every department on campus for ad-hoc reporting and for scheduled reports. The types of reports include nightly audit reports, extracts that are then used to feed other systems, and traditional reports designed to track progress for the different business needs of the various offices across campus.,Simple user-interface: Informer is relatively easy to learn and end users can begin running reports and creating new reports quickly. Email "burst" functionality: This feature allows emails to be sent out based on data in the report. So for example, a report could be scheduled that would email all student employment managers listing out the specific employees that report to them that haven't submitted their time sheets. Each manager would only see the rows that correspond to their email address. Analytics and grouping: Users can quickly drag columns to group and sub-total, and can use the analytics tab to get deeper insights into the data.,Performance is sometimes an issue. This can usually be overcome by re-designing the report - using fewer fields, using indexed fields etc. The java script calculated fields are overall a good feature, but they can be difficult to work with as some true javascript syntax is not supported due to the architecture used.,7,QueryBuilder and SSRS,Ellucian Advance,9,10A must-have for Ellucian Colleague usersOur Registrar, Human Resources, and IT departments heavily rely on Informer, but almost every department has at least one user. Ellucian Colleague is used for crucial services like housing transcripts and course records and assigning student and employee ID numbers. Colleague has no useful way to report on this data, so Informer fills that need.,Informer's Calculation columns are extremely useful, particularly "Script" columns. They allow users to write Javascript snippets that analyze other columns and display complex calculations, so long as you can write the Javascript to do so. Informer's Scheduler is full-featured and vital to automating its use. Avid Informer users like to schedule reports to write data directly to servers of ours (accessible while on-campus or through VPN), and non-users like to schedule reports to be emailed to them. Both replace the need for staff to remember to periodically run reports. At a basic level, Informer is vital for Ellucian Colleague users simply because it can easily query records and display them as a spreadsheet. It's supremely disappointing that Colleague users suffered so long without this feature.,Informer needs more predefined date formats in its Column Display Editor. The existing 5 do not meet everyone's needs. It's a minor UI issue, but Informer's Edit Columns view stutters and displays empty space when scrolling left or right. It may be because I'm using Safari on Mac OS X, and Informer isn't designed for input devices that scroll with "momentum" (as Apple calls it). The Reports Listing takes longer to load reports than I believe it should. At least a progress bar displays to tell you when it's complete.,10,,The Raisers Edge, FileMaker Pro,10,10Powerfull cheap till with minor drowbacksEntrinsik informer tool is used for delivering daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly and yearly reports. In addition to this it is used to export data in csv format and deliver it to other systems to be used. It is used by administrative offices for daily work. It helps users with no technical skills or knowledge to create reports on their own without necessarily knowing database relationships or how to write a query.,Easy to use - no technical skills required to understand how to get a report with basic data that user needs. It is simple drag and drop which is very useful for many users. Easy to maintain - for IT administrators updating the system is super easy. Once it is set up very little to no maintenance is required. Easy to set up - When connecting to databases it is easy define the connection and the username and password. It is a bit tricky with unidata databases as you have to set up one "additional" subroutine to be initialized once the informer connects. Super cheap - compared to other reporting tools this is like fraction of that cost with the same functionality.,It can [eat] your resources - if your query is big or got into some endless loop which is possible) it will use all RAM you dedicated it to a jetty server and it will make your CPU go to 100% which is bad if you are running other applications as it would have serious impact. It is bundled with Jetty server - and Jetty server is not a very nice web server to work with and can be complicated. I really don't understand if they have a Java application why .war file wouldn't run on Tomcat that we already have in use so it requires additional software. If number of reports is big it becomes very slow when loading main page and reports. It does not have a limit on number of columns which is bad for everyday user in two ways: They think they can put 30+ columns and use it as report - who is going to read 30+ column report? Having 30+ columns will slow down the application for all users and eat all of your server resources. It will potentially have a performance impact on unidata database when executing a large report. Number of fields should be limited.,7,SAP Business Objects,Microsoft SQL Server,10,10Entrinsik Informer usability review.Entrinsik Informer is our ERP reporting and data extraction tool used across two campuses. It allows users to get *their* data without relying on IT Services. There was a change made to the old method of retrieving data from our central ERP system so a replacement was sought out which turned out to be Entrinsik Informer. It's really good because you can export in a variety of formats. If there was one minor issue with it it would be the lack of an ability to format report output.,Setting up a report is quite easy for end users to manage For the logging in process it interacts with our identity management system It's very easy to download data into a PDF or spreadsheet/csv file.,Lack of customising a finished looking report Doesn't work the same was as Crystal or Access reports ... the interface is different. Customising a computed column is a little tricky.,8,Microsoft Access,,It is our corporate reporting tool so it it used across all departments, faculties and campuses.,9,7,6

You are able to add user groups to a query to add security and access but if you want to add the grouping to multiple queries, it requires an external tool the company provides. Be careful when using this tool, though, as you cannot use it to remove the group from a batch of reports if you inadvertently add them to ones you did not want.

It is very easy to share reports in Entrinsik Informer. There have been many cases where I would create a report for an end-user, then share that report with them so they can run it whenever they need it. It also allows them to change any criteria or output fields whenever desired. There have also been cases where an end-user started creating a report, but couldn't get something to work correctly, so I would access it and "fix" it for them.

Some of the reports I run in Informer are on course information. The Registrar has to approve the fields I can have access to first. If I write a report, I can keep it private, make it public for anyone with a login to access, or make it available to a specific user or group of users. Our system admins can really tweak security settings down to the field level.

We enjoy the ability to create import/export files to share reports with other colleges in the NC community college system and users of our ERP system. It would be helpful if the communities were up and running and if more work could be done to collaborate on linking files and data dictionaries.

Because of the security, we are able to build reports for our end users. My staff have written over 2,000 reports, but have only published 200 that are "self-service" for our end users. We might use Informer to build internally used reports. Also, we strive to write simple and flexible reports for our end users so that they have to learn fewer reports. We use "parameters" inside Informer to allow them to chose options such as ID, year, city, state, etc.

Setting up security in Informer has been quite easy. We utilized their LDAP functionality and tied into Active Directory. User like the idea of only having one password. The security within Informer is easy to understand and set up. Reports are easily shared within departments. Our users also like the email function.

There are a few different options available for report sharing and security in Informer. It's important to have a consistent method and be sure that report creators are following this method. It's possible to use roles from the LDAP server (e.g. Active Directory), or set up Informer specific roles and groups. Reports can be shared with individuals or with groups. Different access can be given at every 'layer' of the product - from specific reports to particular tables in a data source, to data source and administrative access.

Informer has very granular control over permissions for each individual report. Although not needed in most cases, it's reassuring to know that I can share reports with others and not worry about them accidentally breaking it. Our institution uses security roles well, so it's easy for me to assign permissions by these roles, or to individual users.
