What is Eventbrite?

Eventbrite is a global ticketing and event technology platform that provides creators of events with tools and resources to plan, promote, and produce live experiences.

The vendor says event organizers can benefit from Eventbrite’s self-service event planning tools including email invitation creation, RSVP tracking, and ticket selling. Ticket sales can be managed online via the ticketing website or through integration with social media sites including Facebook, and real-time sales data aims to help event planners assess attendance and profit.

The platform includes powerful discovery channels and robust marketing tools, which, according to the vendor, facilitate high conversion rates. Eventbrite's goal is to help users zero in on the most interested event-goers and sell more tickets to their events.

Our nonprofit used Eventbrite for a book tour we did for a book released by our executive director. We've also used it for various meetings and fundraising events from year to year. It was used by our entire staff for these events and allowed our supporters and followers to register for events, receive a ticket for that event, and get all info on location and time. It helped us to determine attendance numbers so we could prepare appropriately.
  • Very user-friendly and beautiful event landing pages.
  • There's a good amount of customization in terms of ticket types, adding location info, and collecting different data fields from attendees.
  • Their blog/events public pages were great for locals to see upcoming events, so we had some people join us who had never heard of us before.
Cons
  • Eventbrite could allow you to customize a bit more of their landing pages. They're hardcoded pages with basic levels of customization.
  • For nonprofits, we need to be able to track if a portion of a ticket is not tax-deductible. Eventbrite currently doesn't have a field for this in their system, which has been challenging when it comes to tax receipting at the end of the year.
  • We've used tools like Ticketspice, which allow a lot more customization of the landing page to collect additional fields and change how the background colors and fonts look. This is lacking in Eventbrite.
Eventbrite is great for free events especially because it's completely free to use. They only charge fees for ticketed events, which is pretty significant. One improvement they could make is lowering their ticket fees. Eventbrite is also great for someone who needs to quickly get an event page up and isn't looking for a ton of customization.

Great for registrants, not event websites

We use Eventbrite mostly on the marketing team to support events that we host, as well as events that we sponsor. We use Eventbrite to sell tickets, manage registrations, and manage attendees for various events that typically include 15-200 people. We have used the platform both for small cocktail receptions or dinners, as well as for larger-scale multi-day events.
  • Eventbrite does a great job of allowing you to sell tickets and manage the pricing of each ticket. Additionally, you can offer discounts and set up discount codes pretty easily.
  • Eventbrite makes it easy to set up an event. The time it takes to launch an Eventbrite page is very minimal.
  • Eventbrite makes it easy to manage attendees at an onsite event.
Cons
  • The overall UI is a bit clunky and outdated - The events page are usually not very attractive, so we have had to create our own pages that link to the Eventbrite registration
  • The back end is not the most intuitive either. Sometimes you have to click around a lot before you find what you are trying to do.
  • It is a great service, but the fees can really add up.
Eventbrite is very appropriate if you are looking to sell tickets for an event and then manage the registrations and attendees. I think it is particularly useful for free events and can also be great when selling paid tickets. Eventbrite is not the best if you are trying to develop a website or webpage - their development team is not very helpful with that.

Great for free events, but they hold funds for paid tickets

We produce a weekly online show involving a fireside chat and networking. Eventbrite is great for creating a landing page and registration for this weekly show--and it's free. We also produce in-person events and have used Eventbrite in the past for our paid ticketing. However, now Eventbrite changed their payouts to only pay event producers after an event closes. Our monthly events are starting this fall. Unfortunately we had to find another ticketing platform for our paid in-person events because we can't sustain cash flow with Eventbrite holding our cash for six months or longer. And there's no interest on the cash Eventbrite holds. Each event has around $50k in ticket sales.
  • Creating landing pages that stand out and are trusted.
  • Communicating with attendees pre and post event.
  • The integration with Zoom is good, though there were some recent changes that have confused our attendees on our weekly virtual show.
Cons
  • Offering other options for merchant processing--Stripe, PayPal, Square, etc.
  • Hard to repurpose the weekly events for replay viewing. Have to copy the event and replace the online link with the video link to Youtube.
Easy to use, free for online events. Great platform--trusted by many.

Not as good for paid events anymore since they changed their payout policy.

We use Eventbrite from time to time for our events or as we attend the events of others. It is a basic, well-adopted event registration solution.
  • Great mobile app
  • Ease of customer use and known to clients.
  • Ease of use and the ability to make minor customizations easily.
Cons
  • Needs to improve its integrations with CRM systems.
  • Improve the check-in process.
It's great to use in a situation where you need basic registration for an event. It does not handle session registration well within a conference.

Eventbrite has been used this year and previously for registering individual attendees for a professional development and networking conference, across the whole organization. It's a pretty efficient ticket sales and donation gateway for the size events this organization produces.
  • Options for creating specialized demographic-gathering questions. Great for post-event analytics about attendees, which is also helpful for future event planning.
  • Coding for ticket discounts and complimentary passes. We have many guest passes that need unique codes. This saves the event staff from manually registering specialized individual ticket sales. It also enables drilling down for post-event analytics.
  • Clean design layout. Simple to set up, simple for attendees to navigate.
Cons
  • Drilling down through order details can be a bit tedious.
  • Setting requirement switches for some customized customer questions may seem complicated.
  • Badge creation has limited design options.
While Eventbrite is really quite good for both individual and multiple-purchase ticket purchases, and we have used both, it is our experience with sponsors and group registrations that they need group tickets best handled through a personal registrar due to a lot of ticket changes that can't be self-administered easily online by the buyers.
