FileMaker Pro At Work
FileMaker Pro is used across our organization. We utilize its flexibility and scalability to manage and monitor our core business.
- FMP allows us to easily add information and fields to existing applications as our business needs dictate.
- FMP works very well with a workforce that is spread throughout the country.
- FMP allows us to add roles to individuals so that we can tailor their views to what they do.
- FMP Server can be difficult to work with at times. Not easy to migrate to a new server.
- FMP in our environment is constantly evolving. By adding new functionality we are able to reduce repetition and minimize the number of locations data is stored. Making us more efficient.
- As we get more dependent on FMP it is apparent the amount of work it would take to migrate to another platform.

The support group has skills in managing the server and client deployments as well as maintaining and enhancing the application.
- Ability to communicate to all necessary parties the status of our conferences.
- Ability for management to get high-level views of the business and drill down where needed.
- Ability of conference management team to expertly handle the growing requirements of the position without the need to add additional staff.
- The ability to automate some time-sensitive processes and remove most human intervention has led to less confusion and errors.
- We are looking at expanding FMP into other areas of the company. Anytime we have people working off of shared spreadsheets we look to see if there would be a benefit to creating an app in FMP.

Why I love FileMaker Pro
Merch Media uses Filemaker Pro for our contact management and order processing systems. We issues quotes, purchase orders and track all order activity using our custom FMP system. It allows for detailed, flexible data management. We produce monthly sales reports, commission reports and call activity reports as a result of daily use.
- Flexibility - this is the number one reason I use FMP - I can create documents, reports and fields to appear anyway I want them! Have never seen another software come close in this regard.
- Ease of use - As an advanced user but not a developer - I can fix or modify many things myself on the fly. This saves me time and money and gives me instant results.
- Design Aesthetic - As someone who works in advertising and marketing, I care about design. FMP allows me to have a beautifully designed system. So many databases I have seen look like something from the early 90s. I appreciate that my system I use and look at all day can be well designed.
- Number one issue - cannot access via SAAS like Salesforce or similar systems. All our employees have to have a copy of FMP downloaded & maintained on their machine. Would love to access full capabilities via internet - I "think" they "might" be working on this!
- No financial package - We still have to import financials into a different software. Would love to have full module of small biz accounting.
- Licensing & Maintainence & Customer Service could be better & clearer. I always feel like I have to start over when updating.
- Superior customer service - all data is at our fingertips when we need it.
- Dependability - we have relied on FMP for 15 years & it never disappoints.
- Archived info - we can access data over the years & helps when former clients return.
We worked with another company who used Salesforce and had to become proficient at it for a short time. The order entry was so laborious and the system sooo inflexible I could never use it day to day. There were just so many limitations. However the ease of access by way of any internet connection was very appealing and we are now after FMP to get there quickly!

Software offers versitlity however, has limited integation
FileMmaker Pro is currently not being used By Peer Bearing. For several years Peer Bearing Company used Filemaker Pro as its primary software. I had access to the sales module which was custom designed for our application. It allowed us to keep trip notes and contact information. It did not in our application integrate with e-mail and phone contacts. The beauty of the program was that we were able to customize it to fit our needs.
- We were able to add directional buttons to easily sort entries
- We were able to layer contact information to assist in identifying specific contacts and meet specific processes
- We were able to link contact and sales information which allowed for us to forecast more efficiently
- Integrating e-mail so that you can send and receive e-mail from indside the software which allows for better and more efficient time management as opposed to cutting and pasting
- I am not an IT professional nor an accounting professional and don't think we had great results from the use of FileMaker Pro
Filemaker Pro is tremendously more diverse than the Old AS400 however the Clientele program is a sales and accounting oriented software.
