Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT offers robust reporting tools out of the box, with very little customization required to meet reporting needs. Other systems I have used required skilled report writers to develop financial and operational reports needed for internal and external reporting. With Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT, we have been able to handle report development internally, and have the ability to customize the presentation of the data based on specific requirements.

Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT, for the WIN!!
Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is clearly designed for the non-profit industry organizations, and it shows! The features would not necessarily be a great asset to some for-profit businesses given the design and focus on grant/fund reporting, but for non-profits it hits the "ball out of the park" so to speak! It clearly shows the product is engineered by people who are experiences and passionate about philanthropy and giving!

Much improved from Great Plains
Our CIO vetted some other products as he is also an accountant and felt that Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT appeared to be much more efficient than what we had and it had a lot more functionality than the previous and competitors. He also felt that Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT seemed to have positive reviews.

Not-For Profit Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT Customer
Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is far superior to CYMA. We used CYMA for over 20 years. It was tough to transition because Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT follows GAAP, while CYMA did not the way we had it set up. Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT has more robust fund tracking and allows us to create custom reports.

Improved productivity
It's unreal the difference that Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is compared to CYMA. Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is quick and much more efficient , especially the day to day. Bank recs are insanely easier in Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT. The process time has been lessoned considerably.
CYMA was very clunky and the reporting was insufficient. The data and transactions do not flow from one module to the other until they are posted and permanent, so it is hard to get a full picture at any point in time. To get things in you have to fully post, and then adjustments after that muddy up the general ledger and things get confusing.
SAP Concur was not user-friendly and hard to set up initially, to where we never got full functionality out of it. Then to get more support or the reports we were needing, we'd have to pay an arm and a leg to them to get any more.

Fantastic! Offering the ability to effectively work now while growing for future advancement.
Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT, compared to CYMA, offers both the database view as well as the desktop view making it incredibly user-friendly and offers easy access to and visibility of the financial statements. You are able to clearly and easily filter the reports and work in either database view or web view and can switch between the two effectively and easily. Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT takes the confusion out of the financial system.
FENXT was our first choice when we switched from QB Desktop. QB no longer met our needs because its ability to accommodate fund accounting is very limited, as is its budgeting module. We use QBO for a subsidiary, but it has the same top-level limitations. We evaluated Sage, Aplos, and a couple of other integrated solutions, but found FENXT was the best-integrated solution for us because of its flexibility and ability to customize, plus we spoke to other users who raved about the training and support from Blackbaud, the parent company.

Blackbaud FE NXT valued choice
Sage wasn’t updated at the time. It is now and would be my lead choice. Quick books isn’t as sophisticated with restricted fund accounting.

Accounting for Grantmaking
Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT allows for multiple companies/entities to be tracked much easier than Quickbooks allowed. The online capabilities in Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT were also much more useful.

Beware - proceed with extreme caution!!!!!
I have been at 4 schools and always used BB and never had these problems.
FENXT is much better because it has allowed us to go paperless and improve our internal controls and review processes.
The overall feel of Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is better. JobBOSS utilizes more of a database type feel/view. However, it is designed for manufacturers, so the modules and flow really tie back to a customer's purchase order and builds from there. About 80% of the modules utilized are for the production end of fulfilling customer orders - this isn't really relevant in the non-profit world, so Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is certainly better suited as it focuses on the office end of things (AP, AR, GLs, bank recs, etc.), as well as the non-profit angle for grant/funding tracking. The basic features to manage AP, AR and GL entries are similar - Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT just looks better.
I didn't select this software and I would not have considering my role focuses on A/R and grants management and this software doesn't do a good job of helping to track and manage grants or offer full capabilities for both on the online/web-based tools which are much easier to view and use than the desktop version, that makes you constantly have to download and add additional steps to open and times out frequently as well.

FENXT has been a pleasant move for us.
We used Sage 100 but not the cloud-based one. FENXT is more user-friendly and easier to look up information.
QuickBooks is not set up to handle projects, grants, or fund accounting. CYMA is not set up to handle fund accounting either. This made it very difficult to track items at the project level without having to rely on spreadsheets and a highly manual process to combine the information into reports that were useful.

Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT provides clearer reports. It also does true double-entry accounting. Quickbooks does not.

Grant specific tracking
Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is much easier to learn and understand in reports than MAP, easier to separate for reporting than Quickbooks and you can copy JE entries to make monthly entries easier, and just update the costs in the new JE. No other product functions this way. For Tracking, Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT only allows you to reverse a wrong entry, which also makes it easier to correct mistakes. I truly like using Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT very much.
