MS 365 and Blackbaud FE NXT
I use FE NXT for posting journal entries into ledger, extract information using the reporting function and also update fixed asset details
- In Journal entry, love the ability to search for entries using a few key words or the JE number itself. Also love the ability to attach documents easily
- In reporting, love he ability to search for entries using a few key words
- In fixed asset module, love he ability to search for assets directly using the assset number
- In JE, would like thge ability to add lines at specific locations and not at the end of JE. Also like to be able to copy selected JEs easily.
- No Query function in NXT, that is a problem for us
- Cannot add Defined depreciation in calculationdepreciation
- Certain reporting functions have improved our process efficiency
- Ability to download report into Excel in different formats is very helpful. The reports come out looking better formatted than in database view
The reporting function provides more accurate and faster access to information needed to check on controls. Reports are formatted in better format and the ability to download in different EXCEL presentations are very helpful. Faster retrieval in JEs and extraction of details for reports make it easier to check on controls
I don't use the reports for organization's spending and financial performance. I believe my Director perform that function.

Finance Specialist.
My role in Blackbaud is for reporting and accounts payable. I run a weekly check run through Blackbaud, usually on Friday. I run monthly reporting through the systems. I am a backup for processing cash receipts and entering them into the system. It is user-friendly to use, and I would recommend it.

- It seems that changes happen on the system and user not made aware of.
- I wish the database was a user friendly as NXT.

Financial Edge NXT - It's worth it!
Financial Edge NXT is being used by the finance and administration team in our foundation. The main business problems that it addresses are easy access to reporting for executives and access to information in real time and from anywhere with a web connection.
- Financial Edge NXT provides beautiful, easy to read, and visual reports.
- Financial Edge NXT makes access easy for our executive through the various permission levels for access that it provides.
- Financial Edge NXT is still being developed, so not all of the functionality in Financial Edge (the database view) is available yet in NXT. Therefore users must have access to both the traditional view and the webview.

Failed implementation...
Once implemented, it will be used organization-wide. We attempted to convert to Financial Edge NXT a year ago... unfortunately, we still have not converted even though we are paying for NXT. There were issues between host sites... Orange County moving to Boston... I was told that we could test NXT in the hosted environment prior to converting. Once our data was uploaded, I was then told that we could only test in FE on the cloud... not NXT until our live convert. In testing with FE, we found there is a huge lag in processing time as opposed to having the data processing locally. Because it had taken so long I was facing an audit and did not want to have to manage a software conversion during an audit... The final audit report just came back so now we can proceed to convert to NXT... Our development office went live on RENXT in July and find that the processing time is also painfully slow...

- VERY IMPORTANT CANNED REPORT IN DATABASE VERSION HAS STILL NOT YET BEEN WRITTEN IN NXT. THE BLACKBAUD REPORT TYPE IS "PROJECT BUDGET VS. ACTUAL REPORT"... AGAIN THIS IS THEIR OWN CANNED REPORT IN DATABASE, IT IS CRITICAL FOR US TO RUN AND STILL ISN'T AVAILABLE IN NXT... UNACCEPTABLE!!!
- WE ARE TOTALLY UPSET THAT THEY SUNSETTED STUDENT BILLING. IT WAS A WELL THOUGHT OUT AND EXTREMELY USEFUL SUB LEDGER. A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO WE TESTED THE BILLING SYSTEM THEY HAVE MOVED TO WITH BAD RESULTS. THIS HAS FORCED US TO GO WITH A DIFFERENT COMPANY FOR STUDENT ACCOUNTS AND NOW HAVE TO RUN REPORTS TO MAKE ENTRIES BY HAND TO GL. I USED TO WORK FOR A SOFTWARE COMPANY AND OUR PHILOSOPHY WAS TO NEVER TAKE AWAY FUNCTIONALITY FROM OUR END USERS...

Not sure what you mean by "change management". We had horrible experience with NXT implementation so I marked the first one.

Financial Edge NXT
FE NXT is being used by our accounting department as we try to migrate off of the client-server version to a SaaS environment. [It's being used by the] accounting department and some in IT with dashboards. NXT helps us eliminate using a Citrix environment for some of the FE use.
- Dashboards are easy to create and look professional.
- Learning curve from the client-server version of Financial Edge was minimal.
- Missing functionality, needs missing modules from the client server version or the DB view.
- Ability to edit users within NXT.
- Ability for staff to work remotely without the use of Citrix.
- Moving to a SaaS environment for our core applications.

Updates are seamless. We're hoping to have auditors being able to login and audit remotely.
We have tried some of the other applications, Raiser's Edge. We're waiting for completed web development before investigating any further.
We were using the client server version of FE so the migration to NXT was an easy one. I believe we looked at QuickBooks at one point.
