What is FortiClient?

FortiClient is a Fabric Agent that delivers protection, compliance, and secure access in a single, modular lightweight client. A Fabric Agent is a bit of endpoint software that runs on an endpoint, such as a laptop or mobile device and communicates with the Fortinet Security Fabric to provide information, visibility, and control to that device.

The Unified FortiClient agent provides enhanced security capabilities by adding AI-based next-generation antivirus (NGAV), endpoint quarantine, and application firewall, as well as support for cloud sandbox, USB device control, and ransomware protection.

Additionally, the Unified FortiClient agent enables remote workers to securely connect to the network using zero-trust principles. This edition enables both Universal ZTNA- and VPN-encrypted tunnels, as well as URL filtering and cloud access security broker (CASB). FortiSASE provides cloud-hosted Universal ZTNA, CASB, and SWG and includes the Unified FortiClient agent. Central management via FortiClient EMS is included.

And to simplify the initial deployment and offload ongoing monitoring, Fortinet offers Endpoint-focused managed services to provide complete operation of the FortiClient solution, providing set up, deployment, configuration, vulnerability monitoring, and overall endpoint security monitoring.

We use this tool for remote access including laptops and computers for working from home staff. Prevent unauthorised access. Also works as antivirus to detect any potential virus and threats from our devices. Protects staff by using Multifactor Authentication when they have to connect in VPN Connection is more secured between FortiGate firewall and encryption to access our servers and network devices.
  • Provide a secured connection between servers and devices.
  • Provides vulnerability scanning to detect outdated software and other security issues.
  • Helps in web filtering in unsecured websites.
  • The must create automatic updates for new version software.
  • The pricing of the solution should be less expensive.
I use FortiClient day-to-day to help working from home staff to access remote connection and share files by installing and configurations. It helps us connect to our office servers while working remotely. Help companies to make investments against cyber-crime and protect their servers by mitigating the risk of cyberattacks from unauthorized access.

FortiClient VPN service allows users to connect to their organization's network from their home or any other network. Their strong security prevents malicious sites and MITM attacks that can be done by attackers. The best part is that their VPN is free to use and really easy to set up on any device.
  • It creates an encrypted network that protects from malicious sites
  • It also prevents from MITM attacks
  • Easy to setup and use
  • UI of their android app could be better
Well, its VPN service can be best suited for organizations where employees want to connect to their organization's network securely. It is very demanding in WFH culture where employees can visit their offices as it provides really good security, so any organization that wants their employees to connect to their network can use FortiClient as a solution.

We have been using FortiClient as our endpoint security for the past five years. We integrate it with our FortiGate firewall for improved network and malware security. It has it's own web filtering option, which can protect you against malicious and dangerous sites when you're connected to unsecured networks. It updates it's database constantly, so you don't have to worry about new threats. It has its own built-in VPN, which you can use to connect to your private network through the Fortinet firewall.
  • Real-time protection against malware and malicious websites
  • Integrated VPN, firewall, and vulnerability detection
  • Application updates could be improved a little. (Not the database, the database updates are perfectly fine.)
FortiClient is a tool that is easy to install, the user interface is easy to understand, and it comes packed with great security tools that work even better when you connect the endpoint to the Fortinet FortiGate firewall.

We are using FortiClient both for the anti-malware solution for all our endpoints as well as the VPN client to connect laptops to the corporate network. As we are using Fortinet network devices, it's also used for connection to the "security fabric" and allows us to use .1x more securely with some additional security checks.
Since the implementation three years ago, we are happy with this solution mainly because it doesn't give any performance issues on the workstations itself even when the full scan is launched.
  • Scans malware on a very high level
  • Doesn't leave bad impact to performance
  • Centralized management is a bit challenging
  • Support cases sometimes takes a bit long
If you need a lightweight anti-malware solution, this might be it. Mainly if you use Fortinet network devices, FortiClient is an excellent tool that is not worse than any other solution in the market and is reasonably priced. The VPN connection works stable, which is very important for our end users.

FortiClient is used at our company across the whole organization. We are using it around the world as a VPN Tunnel to connect to the corporate network. FortiClient is allowing users to have a secure external connection during trips and home office work. Sometimes the VPN network crashes in the middle of the day but maybe it is related to the local internet connection.
  • Extremely secure VPN connections.
  • FortiClient is being used worldwide with no issues.
  • Losing connection with no apparent reason.
  • Network sometimes is a little slow.
FortiClient is well suited to use as a secure external connection during trips, different sites of the Company and home office work. The VPN network crashing in the middle of the day is a real problem sometimes, but it is just needed to re-enter the login and password and the feature starts working again.

We use FortiClient VPN in our organization to quickly connect to several different SSL-VPN capable Fortigate firewalls across the country. Right now we have about 20 in production and we frequently need to bounce from firewall to firewall as we support our different environments. FortiClient makes working with Fortigate firewalls extremely easy.
  • Reliable connectivity.
  • Easy to configure.
  • Easy to deploy.
  • We're stuck using version 6.0.3 because we have to pay for VPN access after that.
  • It doesn't handle computers going to sleep well.
  • There's no auto-update between major versions; you have to reinstall.
FortiClient is great if you frequently connect to a few VPNs, as it lets you save connection profile information including username (and password if you really want insecure convenience) so you can just click a drop-down and go. It also integrates with MFA requirements and will prompt for passcodes if your org requires that.

FortiClient is being used as an endpoint protection client in conjunction with Cb Defense. We are deploying 100 clients as a small scale test across many departments with the intent to use it organization-wide. It also has the capability of adding web filtering to remote field laptops so we are also testing that. We are adding it as another layer at the desktop, it is part of what Fortinet calls a security fabric. FortiClient works in concert with their FortiSwitches, FortiAP, and FortiGate and can when fully configured supposedly disconnect an infected client at any point in the stream.
  • The client is easily installed and easily configured.
  • The management console was easy to set up and is simple to get around in. Gives quick information in a dashboard as to the status of your clients.
  • The endpoint experience is very unobtrusive and, with the standard configuration, is easy to live in conjunction with Cb Defense.
  • It seems to do a good block of filtering and blocking potentially harmful applications.
  • We are one version behind and as I understand it there have been many improvements in the areas I have concerns.
  • The management interface is a bit basic, which in one sense is good, but it feels dated and less put together than other interfaces we have used for similar products.
  • The client upgrade process is a little awkward and needs to be streamlined.
  • The alert notification process seems a bit chatty about problems and potential problems.
I'm not sure I would be satisfied with FortiClient as my primary AV endpoint protection given the polish of other products like Cb Defense for example (which we also have), but it is also much less expensive and works great as a secondary layer of protection. It also has a lot of promise for customers like us that have invested in the Fortinet series of networking and firewall products due to their security fabric strategy.

FortiClient is being used across the whole company as the primary VPN solution to connect to a FortiGate. It solves a major problem of being able to collaborate with employees across multiple business sites with the peace of mind that the data is safe at both ends of the connection, as well as along the way.
  • FortiClient is very easy to set up.
  • Two-Factor Authentication is enabled.
  • Non-intrusive notifications on the connection status.
  • Has a stable connection.
  • The interface requires an overhaul to fit into the design sphere of Windows 10.
  • Limited information is available, as a user, when experiencing connection errors.
  • There are features in settings that require manual tweaking to work as intended (e.g. customization of ports).
FortiClient is very well suited to large enterprises where the IT infrastructure is centrally controlled and administered. This is a perfect market for FortiClient, as it is simple to set up and operate, as a user, and has the bare minimum features needed to get the job done without overcomplicating things.

We went with FortiClient at the recommendation of our IT partner when we were looking for a more sophisticated firewall and endpoint protection solution. Additionally, we also needed a VPN solution for remote employees and FortiClient offered the security and VPN access that we needed. We use the platform across our entire company and it has added additional layers of security, management and VPN.
  • Endpoint protection and security
  • Endpoint management
  • Secure Remote Access / VPN
  • User interface / control panel can be a little clunky to use
  • Frequent system prompts for the same information. Would be nice if it remembered your previous answer
  • Challenging to self-install for the non IT professional. Would be nice if it was easier to manage.
FortiClient is a great solution for small/mid-sized businesses looking to upgrade their firewall / endpoint management solution and also add advanced VPN and remote access. May not be as ideal for large enterprises or very small companies with minimal IT/networking infrastructure. It was a massive leap forward from our old netgear firewall and brought us into a more sophisticated position for endpoint security and management.

FortiClient is used across the organization, it allows secure connectivity (VPN Tunnel) for users on external networks (business trips, home, etc.) into the organization's internal networks. It also allows our network admins to control specific users' access to networks and resources as they connect via the VPN by defining various rules related to the user logged in (which is identified by his username and password).
  • Supports all operating systems our organization works with (Windows, Linux, Mac)
  • Provides secure VPN access for users from anywhere with an internet connection
  • Controls access for users accessing the network
  • Linux client works but is really clunky, and prone to lose your settings for no apparent reason
  • Hard to debug user connectivity problems
Does what it sets out to do, a utility which enables me as a user to work remotely and safely - not compromising my organization's security, while allowing me to accomplish my tasks (which require org network access) easily and fast.

FortiClient, is our VPN connection client. It is used in both Windows and Mac OS X. It is used by all departments. Most have access to the corporate network from the outside, so the best way to access the network is with FortiClient. This application helps us solve the problem of accessing information from the outside. It is a simple application to use and to configure, with the steps that the administrator sends it is easy to do it.
  • Activating the connection with the office is very simple. Just select the icon in FortiClient, enter your credentials and go.
  • I have noticed that when I use FortiClient, I am in the network of my office, even the access controls of my equipment are activated.
  • It is available on the Internet, so that we can download it to users without waiting for the installation by an administrator.
  • The client in the version for MacOS X is limited and not friendly. In some cases it is frozen.
  • The antivirus installation option is still present, when the installer was previously instructed not to install. Although it is not activated, it is confusing for the user. The non-expert user may believe that the firewall antivirus is activated for his computer and it is not true. The best thing is that if it is installed, do not show the option.
  • It should have a version only for VPN connection, since there is a company like the one I work in, which has other security solutions that are independent.
For business environments where they have little support, so users can easily install things and access sensitive information remotely and securely. Also in environments where they want access to several sites and equipment with average performance.

FortiClient is a very simple software that is being used mainly for VPN purposes. Very secure software which you can rely on. The level of protection that it comes with is something you appreciate for the price. Very convenient, since setting it up it does not take a lot of knowledge at all.
  • VPN works very smoothly
  • Protect your identity from any intruder
  • Provides several levels of protection
  • The interface is kind of messy
  • Software does not come with a tutorial
  • It's not friendly for someone who does not use VPN
One of the cases which we use VPN for is for desktop remote connection, and FortiClient provides a well and stable connection, while at the same time giving you confidence that the data you are working with will be protected, even when using remote connection. This also works well if you want to change your IP address.
