Business Problems Solved

Freckle Math has become an essential tool for third and fourth-grade teachers in both distance learning and classroom settings. Teachers rely on this platform to differentiate instruction and address the unique needs of each student, regardless of their math proficiency. By aligning with state standards, Freckle's adaptive math platform allows teachers to measure students' progress and tailor their learning experience accordingly. The integration of Freckle with Star Assessments ensures that students are working at their appropriate level.

Teachers utilize Freckle on a daily basis to offer student choice options and assign custom assignments. The platform's feedback, collaboration, and motivational features keep students engaged throughout their math journey. Freckle particularly proves valuable for Title 1 reading teachers and Dyslexia Specialists who can create classes for students with different grade levels, assigning lessons based on individual needs. It enables teachers to track progress, identify areas requiring further instruction, and provide additional support for students who are behind their peers in multiple grade levels. Besides being used by individual teachers, Freckle is widely adopted on a school-wide or district-wide basis, catering to grades K through 6.

We use Freckle by Renaissance's adaptive components to address students' needs and provide practice at their level. In addition, we can assign grade-level practice or assessments to not only target needs but also check their progress at the level they are expected to work on.

Pros

  • Diagnostic Testing
  • Adaptive Learning
  • Providing Support
  • Motivation

Cons

  • Reports available for the Free Version

Likelihood to Recommend

Freckle by Renaissance was a great test prep for students in areas where they need support in. This is a great way for students to practice at their own level on skills that are currently taught in class.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have used Freckle by Renaissance in my special education teaching practice for the past seven years. There is a diverse range of practice problems for students to use in the areas of language arts and mathematics.

Pros

  • Freckle differentiates by giving students a placement test and then giving them practice questions at their appropriate level.
  • Freckle allows teachers to find specific standards to cover in student practice.
  • Freckle reads questions aloud for students who struggle with reading.

Cons

  • I would like to be able to choose specific math problems for my students to practice.
  • It would be beneficial to see more practice products on Freckle that address writing conventions.
  • My students could benefit from more leveled reading practice, so having multiple stories that address the same skills would be beneficial.

Likelihood to Recommend

Freckle is well-suited for daily practice for students in the general education setting. It is also well-suited for students who need to catch up on their skills.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Freckle by Renaissance as a supplementary support for our ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies classes. We utilize both the student-lead, online version where the students can earn coins toward dressing up their avatars as well as teacher unit plans which provide not only differentiation based on Renaissance STAR performance in ELA and Math but also offer videos, check-ins, assessments, articles and more per unit.

Pros

  • Differentiation
  • Leveled Readings/Articles
  • Engaging Activities
  • text-to-speech option

Cons

  • Updates to the new science curriculum for higher grades in NY (Earth and Space Science, Bio, Chem)

Likelihood to Recommend

When I was first introduced to Freckle by Renaissance many years ago, it was just a student-lead online application. Now, it's a great resource for lesson plans, unit plans and activities that can be printed and adjusted for student needs.

My View of Freckle

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Freckle almost daily in my classroom. I usually use it for early finishers. I also assign it for weekly homework. I incorporate it to help students strengthen their math skills in a fun way. The platform is very user-friendly. Students are able to log in to their account and begin work independently.

Pros

  • fun
  • fosters independence
  • Students gain confidence
  • Students gain skills

Cons

  • Students sometimes get on other classmates' profiles to create havoc.

Likelihood to Recommend

A drawback is that students are able to hack into each other's accounts to create mayhem. Passwords should be a little more obscure to prevent this kind of happening. Also, some students just randomly click answers to gain points to use in the shop. I am able to put a stop to it usually, by letting them know that I will be looking at their activity for a grade.

Freckle by Renaissance Review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have been using Freckle by Renaissance this past year in our school. It is incredibly user friendly for our students and teachers. The program works hand in hand with our standardized testing data through the program Star 360 - Early Literacy, Reading, and Math. This program keeps students engaged with the "fun" aspect of it with being able to earn coins and purchase outfits and things for their character. All while letting the kids have fun AND learn at the same time. The platform itself is laid out very well that anyone can learn to navigate it. Our school has really enjoyed implementing this program, Freckle by Renaissance, into our learning environment.

Pros

  • Easy to use and navigate
  • Works well with Star 360
  • Results have been seen with student scores

Cons

  • The admin page is slightly confusing at first
  • Would love to see more subjects added
  • Would love to bundle the Renaissance products together

Likelihood to Recommend

Freckle by Renaissance would work very well in a K-8th school setting. We have seen great success with our students using this program in the last year and it seems to keep them engaged and wanting to learn more. I would say I would be skeptical to use the product with students in grades higher than 8th grade unless there would be a change in format. Our younger kids seem to be very engaged in this, but I am not sure older kids would enjoy it as much.

Freckle by Renaissance is a Great Tool!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our school used Freckle by Renaissance for Math and ELA practice. I have seen students use it for additional practice when students score in the red or yellow in the STAR assessments. I have used it to work on goals with my students. Freckle by Renaissance is great for students because you are able to assign activities at the individual level of each student. If you are working on a standard that is higher than the student's level, there are also videos accompanying the activities to give the student a tutorial before they attempt the problem.

Pros

  • Adaptive practice
  • Students reports
  • Example videos during practice

Cons

  • Teacher view
  • More options on the fact practice. For example, the opportunity to choose which math facts to focus on (1s, 6s, 8s, etc.)
  • More than two opportunities to complete fact practice

Likelihood to Recommend

Freckle by Renaissance is a great tool for Education Specialists. It is a great tool because you can assign specific tasks to your students based on the goal that they are working on. I also like that they can watch videos if they don't know how to solve a problem. Freckle by Renaissance is also great for reading comprehension since there are many articles for students to read that are fiction and non-fiction. A scenario where Freckle by Renaissance may be less appropriate may be for group work or writing practice.

Freckle Provide Practice with Fun

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Freckle by Renaissance is helping our students to practice and master skills/standards in ELA and math. It provides evidence of mastery or non-mastery of skills. The students like practicing their skills on Freckle. They especially like the the coins and "buying" from the store. It motivates them to want to practice correctly.

Pros

  • gamification
  • ease of use
  • fun graphics

Cons

  • none at this time

Likelihood to Recommend

Freckle is leveled, so teachers can use it for differentiation. Teachers can assign different assignments in different domains or standards at different levels for students.Students can practice independently. Freckle does not replace teaching the skills or standards, but it is wonderful for skills/standards practice and to show mastery of those skills/standards.

Freckle Math

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I love Freckle math. It is so easy for a teacher to use. Most of the features are user friendly for both teachers and students. I find that this is the most motivating way for me to give math practice. The students feel like they are making progress and they can see their progress.

Pros

  • Progress Monitoring
  • Math Practice
  • Small group instruction and direction

Cons

  • Assigning work never turns out the right way
  • Some of the standards don't seem to match the work
  • Allow more than 2 sessions of fact practice per day

Likelihood to Recommend

I used Freckle math weekly in the classroom. I also use this working one to one with students who need extra help or tutoring. This has been an excellent tool that really helps me to cut some plan time. I don't like using freckle as an entire class for one standard. I don't think it always works for this. It is best as supplemental work or enrichment.

Fun Adaptive Learning for K-12 Students

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Freckle is used as an adaptive platform to support our students in reading and math skills. The reading platforms support students' phonics foundation skills, reading comprehension, grammar, and adaptive reading levels. The math platform coordinates with the state standards to measure and meet the adaptive needs of students. Freckle and Star Assessments connect to ensure students are working on their appropriate level. Freckle offers a variety of resources to help identify areas for improvement, progress, as well as growth on both platforms. We actively use Freckle each day with student choice options, as well as teacher-created assignments. Freckle offers feedback, collaboration, and motivation to ensure continued student involvement.

Pros

  • Freckle does a great job adapting lessons.
  • Freckle does a great job motivating students and participation.
  • Freckle is very interactive with students and teachers to support continued participation.
  • Freckle provides DOK challenge questions that support students' understanding after standards are met.
  • Student inquiry and problem-based questions are also new additions to Freckle that help support led activities.

Cons

  • I would like to see more reinforcement or reteaching videos to assign.
  • Lesson organization tools would support the long list of assignments collect over weeks or semesters.

Likelihood to Recommend

Freckle does a great job of establishing a continuum to allow students to build confidence and continued use from elementary to high school. Freckle does a fantastic job differentiating and meeting the student's needs to build their confidence and belief in their achievements to be successful learners. The less appropriate scenario is in the reteach lessons they provide.
