GoGuardian for Middle School Educators

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

GoGuardian has been used during my entire time while employed in Prosper ISD (Prosper, TX) for the past 8 years. The software is used to monitor students' technology in class, create automated or directed instruction, and monitor students while they work to catch any issues that may have during learning and instruction on an assignment.

Pros

  • Student monitoring
  • Automating student learning resources
  • Differentiating instruction as needed for technology

Cons

  • Scope of device monitoring (laptops, desktop computers and not just Chromebooks)
  • Needs an updated interface to more accurately fit advances in technology
  • Ability to more easily interact and adjust with a student's device

Likelihood to Recommend

We use GoGuardian daily for monitoring students to ensure they are not off task, accessing inappropriate material at school, monitoring students during an assignment and more easily being able to help them if noticing they are struggling or in need of intervention on their work. It has also been used very well during times when schooling has been virtual as it has allowed us to more easily work with students who are not physically on campus.

Great for Remote Monitoring

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

GoGuardian Teacher is used in our organization to monitor the virtual students during working hours. It is also used to block unauthorized web usage and as a chat platform to communicate with the students. It is also used to set allowed websites and set hours for the school day. Reports of student usage can also be accessed.

Pros

  • Block unauthorized websited
  • Monitor student activity
  • Create a calendar of school hours

Cons

  • Needs the ability to switch active tabs
  • Better customization of student reports

Likelihood to Recommend

We have students that work remotely. Therefore, this is a great tool for monitoring their activity and ensuring that they stay on track and get the best experience possible with our program. Our students use school issued devices, so this is well suited for our program. If students were to use their own equipment, this software may be too intrusive and be less appropriate.

Great for real-time student management

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

All of the teachers use it to monitor our students during class. We used it for virtual and in-person learning this year, and we’ll continue using it in person moving forward. It’s so helpful to be able to track what students are doing during class time to make sure they’re following along.

Pros

  • Real-time monitoring
  • Ability to close tabs
  • Ability to lock screen

Cons

  • Setting up classes
  • Google Chrome requirement
  • Students can get around the system

Likelihood to Recommend

GoGuardian Teacher is really awesome for teachers because it’s incredibly helpful for behavior management. Kids would always rather play games or do something else instead of listening in class, but when they know you’re watching, it helps keep them focused and responsible. However, from my understanding, it doesn’t work for students who use iPads.

GoGuardian Teacher - Take Control of Your Classroom

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use GoGuardian Teacher across our organization. It is used by teachers to manage student Chromebook sessions in classrooms. Through this software, teachers can not only see student activity but they can also make filtering decisions on the spot to allow or block websites. This allows teachers to guide their own students without contacting their IT department.

Pros

  • Account setup is very easy.
  • The software is extremely intuitive.

Cons

  • Students sometimes do not show up in the software despite being logged on to a Chromebook.
  • A Chromebook coming in and out of a sleep state can cause the user to not show up correctly.

Likelihood to Recommend

GoGuardian Teacher is perfect for school districts that are invested in the G Suite/Chromebook environment. Of all the products we have put in place for teachers, this has received the most attention. Teachers can see everything a student is doing at a given time. They may close tabs that are not productive to student learning. They can lock Chromebooks, chat with students and change filtering all on their own. I honestly think this is one of the best classroom management tools for Chromebook devices.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

With 1:1 Chromebook implementation in an inner-city middle school, it was vital for us to have a program to monitor the usage by students. We are able to create boundaries for web browsing that allows our students to use online tools in a safe environment. Our students understand that we want them to freely use their device in school appropriate ways, but that we are able to monitor where they are and block inappropriate sites for our setting.

Pros

  • Ease of set-up and use.
  • Ability to monitor students in real time.

Cons

  • The initial learning curve of the program took some time, but then was easy to follow.
  • We were only able to start using it after our IT department sent our classes to us.

Likelihood to Recommend

GoGuardian has decreased incidents of students misusing their computers during class just by them knowing we have the capability of monitoring them. On most days my colleagues and I don't even have to open the program for our students to be modeling correct behavior. It allows us to see problems in real-time to be able to address them then, rather than after the fact.

Go Get GoGuardian Teacher

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

GoGuardian is being used at our institution to manage student Chromebook activity in the classroom. Teachers and administrators can monitor devices from their device. You can see if the students are doing the assigned task or on the proper sight, view open tabs, sends messages and even block students. Helps to keep students on task and accountable for their time with tech in the classroom.

Pros

  • Monitor device activity
  • Monitor students screens
  • Improves on task time and accountability

Cons

  • Mobile or tablet version
  • Flexible scenes to control individualized work.
  • Instant screen shots. I take them manually.

Likelihood to Recommend

GoGuardian Teacher is great for a teacher who needs a way to monitor student activities and work time on a laptop. It is easy to set up, simple to use and helps to keep students accountable when online in class. It integrates with Google Classroom which is a big help. It is more powerful for teachers experienced in using tech in the classroom. The archiving ability is great but the UX needs to improve.

Cloud-Based Monitoring for Teachers

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

GoGuardian Teacher is being used district-wide to help monitor what students are viewing and doing on their Chromebooks and tablets. It is much easier to use than what our district used in the past because the software is cloud-based and can be monitored from any device as long as it is logged in to the correct person.

Pros

  • Cloud-based. Teachers do not have to monitor from just one device - they can do it from any device.
  • GoGuardian allows teachers to lock a student's screen when he/she needs the students attention.
  • GoGuardian allows the teacher to view all students' devices simultaneously.

Cons

  • Difficulty with syncing some students into the system. De-bug that software glitch.
  • Add on-to the scheduling by implementing a calendar so there is not unnecessary tracking during breaks/days off of school.

Likelihood to Recommend

GoGuardian allows teachers to track and monitor student's devices in the classroom. Additionally, the teacher can have more than one classroom split into its own category instead of a pool of students. Finally, the teacher can set up scheduling so GoGuardian automatically saves the data from that specified tracking period.

GoGuardian would do even better if they added a calendar to the scheduling.
