I use [Google Analytics] to track web traffic and get more info on who is visiting my site. This way I can target the correct audience. We see who is accessing our marketing materials through social media, then we analyze how we can get other users to visit our site in other ways.
  • Track users
  • ROI
  • Measure ad performance
Cons
  • Would like more advanced options
  • Easier interface
[Google Analytics] is appropriate for any company looking to track their digital ads and get more info on who is seeing these ads, and where they came from. It would be less appropriate for companies who have all of their ads in one place, or have print ads instead of digital.

Google Analytics helps me and my team track trends in traffic to our website and landing pages. It gives us a deeper dive into the behaviors of our target market and has allowed us to pivot and make changes to better serve customers. We use other BI tools alongside Google Analytics, but it is by far the truest source of information.
  • Track visitor behaviors on our website
  • Identify trends in traffic
  • Provides valuable reporting insight
Cons
  • No major concerns or rooms for improvement
It is an amazing tool to help monitor website and landing page traffic. We currently use it to see where the majority of our visitors are coming from. We can then adjust ads and landing pages based on the information gathered.

We use Google Analytics to determine what pages users are looking at, a rough estimation of conversion rate by channel, source, and paid and organic media, and generally determine how well our website is performing. While it's imperfect due to strict tracking regulations that we abide by, it gives us some good directionally accurate information to determine the best course forward.
  • Provides anonymized traffic data - where people come from
  • With proper implementation, shows the best source for converting users
  • Shows the time on site, time on page, and bounce rate, to determine the value of pages and content
  • Shows user flow - what's the path users are taking around your website?
  • Shows where users are dropping off
Cons
  • It would be helpful to track individual user paths around the site - presently, there's sampling, aggregates, and averages
  • Without a paid subscription, sampling is used, so you may only get a mostly accurate view of your website data
  • Doesn't play particularly well with GDPR, meaning users have to specifically opt in for tracking
Google Analytics is the best free program for website data, hands down. It's easily installed and integrates well with most consumer-friendly content management systems. So if you're looking to know general stats about your website : how many visitors, where they came from, where the users are coming from that do what you want them to do, this is a pretty good place to start. It also, of course, integrates well with other Google products - like Ads, Tag Manager, Survey, Optimize, and plenty of other things. So if you'd like to, for example, see how many people clicked on a button, implementing Tag Manager is usually as easy, then a few short steps later, you can see all your desired information directly in Google Analytics. With the new GA4, there's some great cross-user tracking, as well, so you can more easily see users moving between desktop, mobile, tablet, and an app. Google Analytics is also useful for seeing the physical location of different sources of traffic - so you can get a good idea if that media placement you went with (or anything else, for that matter) is actually driving relevant, converting traffic that's doing what you want them to do and sticking around on your site.

It is not good for tracking indivdual user paths or data - it's strictly anonymized and sampled.

Free to use - free to learn - Positive impact to your bottom line!

We use Google Analytics to understand website behavior, trends, customer preferences, and more. Our user experience teams along with our digital marketing and product sales teams are all interested in the data, how customers are using our websites and what actions they can take to drive higher conversions and sales.
  • Out of the box reports
  • User permissions and settings
  • ability to share custom reports with others (even those without accounts)
Cons
  • Can't pull custom dimensions into out of the box reports
  • Visualizations built in have room to be improved
  • With larger data sets, the small "default" number of rows becomes annoying
A free analytics tool that is easy to implement and easy to understand. The ROI pretty much speaks for itself. Unless you have a truly complex or unique analytics scenario requiring high degrees of customization, Google Analytics is a no brainer.

I've used the platform successfully to derive insights and actionable recommendations for commerce sites, content sites and even account centers (bill payment platforms, etc.)

Use to track marketing campaign effectiveness.

  • GA is easy to navigate and they make it easy to understand how to interpret reports
Cons
  • This is not a great app if you are looking to track personal data on your websites.
We've gotten a lot of intel out of GA over the years but are finding there are other applications out there that may help fill in the gaps where GA is lacking.
