  • GA makes it easy for us to measure ROI on our different marketing campaigns by adding tracking codes to our URLs.
  • We can also set goals in GA (like a form submission) and then add a value to each goal to better track ROI.
  • Reporting in GA helps us prioritize different marketing channels based on a ton of different metrics (bounce rate, time on site, pages per session, etc.).

  • While very little in this world is truly free, the only real cost to using Google Analytics is time, from your PM's, your web admins, your engineers, your email admins, and QA analysts--but it is without a doubt time well spent.
  • Because you run the risk of paralysis by analysis, one must pick their battles with Google Analytics. If you go in with a clear, concise set of objectives, and a competent technical supporting cast, you will succeed.
  • On the reverse side of the same coin, if you come in without a purpose, you run the risk of getting bogged down in all of the information without immediate relevance, and you may just leave behind this treasure trove of invaluable analytics in search of said relevance.

  • Google analytics has allowed us to closely follow our bounce rate and whenever it goes above 25%, we know we are doing something wrong.
  • Google analytics has also allowed us focus on ensuring each page on our website meets industry standards.

  • The most positive impact is that we use GA to augment other systems like Hubspot that don't let us customize tracking parameters are thoroughly as we would like. For example, Facebook has the ability to dynamically change parameters based on where the ad placement is, and you can use that parameter in utm_content to segment traffic based on the ad placement. It's much easier to analyze behavior on your site with GA than with the Facebook pixel, and you can create much more detailed custom reports which has been critical in our conversion rate optimization.

  • In my previous job (managing editor of a digital media site), GA helped me understand what types of content drove mass audience. You knew exactly what types of content was engaging users and where they were coming from. That type of information is crucial to strategy building.
  • In my current position (communications and marketing for a corporate law firm), the data we get from GA is helping us streamline our web navigation, develop our legal blog strategy, and better understand what pages are the most important ones on our site.
  • Direct ROI is easier to measure on item 1 than on item 2. But I will say I would feel rather blind in either role if I did not have Google Analytics to help me better understand how users, clients, and potential clients are interacting with our web content.
