We use Google Voice for the majority of communication across the offshore team in India and the USA. The main reason for using the same platform is that it is cost-effective and easily use. As a startup, we tried to find a common platform for everyone to get together and Google Voice does that best.
  • Coordination with different people across the globe.
  • You only pay for the time you use, so better billing.
  • Clear voice quality and integration with the application.
Cons
  • Vonage has a few nice features over Google Voice in terms of routing and other advanced features. It's not that easy in Google Voice.
  • Billing rate has flexibility but they are on the higher side compared to the fixed plan from Vonage or Unovon.
Google Voice is best for users across the globe. If you have teams offshore and onshore and need a single platform to connect with everyone, Google Voice is best. Its integration with Android Call and other features makes it easy to use. The only area I see it lagging is in various plans. The other service provides a fix rate plan compared to Google pay as you go. Sometimes it's easier to have a monthly plan.

Google Voice is an easy and cost friendly app to replace your current provider

As a staffing agency our recruiters and people managers use Google Voice as the primary tool to reach our employees on assignment, or to contact potential candidates. It allows to keep a clear and easy communication via text or calls to our employees using a phone number that allows to screen calls before picking up, and has a great Voicemail organization system.
  • It keeps a record of all communications made to each number
  • Allows us to receive notification via email, text message or call.
  • It is fully integrated with Gmail and makes it easy to work in a common user interface
Cons
  • Most of our company are iPhone users, and the app works great but it does not let the iPhone make calls via Google Voice unless you are inside the app, some improvement with the iPhone integration would be helpful
  • The voice-to-text tool integrated to the Voicemail usually sends intelligible messages with the reception of the notification emails for new Voicemails. The good part is that it also attaches the audio to verify the messages
  • Even thought the international calling works perfectly, they should improve on the international text messaging, it usually doesn't allow us to send messages to numbers outside the US, even with credit on the account.
It is suited to use as a professional phone number, to work abroad and have a US local phone line, be able to receive and make phone calls directly from and to your cellphone or computer even when you are not in the US.

We use Google Voice to communicate with our clients, keeping both text messages and voice calls in one location. We can also easily pass a number to another agent if someone is out for consistent coverage of requests from our clients. It also easily links up with our CRM/ticketing system for tracking purposes.
  • Well designed apps
  • Good call quality
  • Excellent price
Cons
  • Interface changes often
  • Some features (like voicemail transcript editing) missing in latest version
  • UI has unused space on desktop
Google Voice is great for quickly getting a work number going that's separate from your personal number, while still allowing you to use your current phone through forwarding of texts and phone calls, or by using the app. The enterprise features are great if you want to run a more complex phone system to redirect customer calls to specific departments.

Started with Google Voice in 2009 to have a local phone number. Over the years I've used it as a voicemail box, text messenger and international calling number. I had it linked to my personal number, used it as a business number, and had it linked to Google Hangouts to make international phone calls. I used it for call screening and to transcribe voice messages.
  • Transcribes voicemail
  • Links to another phone number
  • Spam Filtering
Cons
  • The web interface is really basic. It could use a design spruce up.
  • I think Google under promotes Google Voice and people don't know it's a product they can use.
  • Would like to be able to easily move phone numbers around on accounts we own.
I think for small businesses that need an "office" phone number, Google Voice is the perfect solution. You can get a local number and have it ring any other phone number, whoever picks it up first gets the call. This is great for someone who has a partner or an admin person that will answer the "office phone". You can call screen so that you know it's a business call. All the features such as text messaging, voicemail transcription and international calling are all great features.

My department uses Google Voice on a daily basis. We send texts and calls out to our employees to solicit their availability for jobs we have available. We have it set up on our work phones as well as on our computers so we can all see the same messages and whoever is available will respond. It allows for all of us to have visibility to see if a text was responded to, so that no texts go unnoticed or get answered twice by multiple people. It also allows us to keep all of our employee text correspondence in one place!
  • Easy accessibility
  • Available on computer and phone
Cons
  • There is a text limit (number gets shut down if too many texts go out)
  • No customer service support
Google Voice is well suited for a team that would like its employees to text/call one number. When an employee confirms for a shift, or is running late, everyone on my team sees it, but only one person needs to respond. It's very helpful to have that visibility, especially so that everyone on the team knows that texts/calls are being responded to. It can be an issue however when an employee wants to speak to someone directly on the team, and tries calling that number only to get someone else picking up. But usually, we just direct the employee to that specific person's direct phone line, as the Google Voice number is not the phone number associated with the phone.
