We use Gusto as our internal payroll software as well as use it to manage payroll for over 50 companies that we provide services to. Depending on the client, 4 day processing for direct debit causes issues, but this is typically for a client that has previously had insufficient funds.
  • HR and Tax forms. LOVE THIS!!
  • Auto filing 941s, 940 and SUTA reports.
  • Paying Tax Liability.
  • User Friendly.
  • 941 Filings: would like to be able to file a "final" 941 for companies that are closing down.
  • 941 Fillings: Would like the option to file an amended 941.
  • Paystub email alert to employees. Come day before payment instead of mid day on pay day.
As a small firm that manages payroll for 50+ clients, Gusto provides ease in payroll processing. We have cut processing time way down with Gusto. Auto generated 941s, 940s, W2, and 1099s are a game changer. We also enjoy the several billing options.

an onboarding tool to get documents setup for new employees. Also, the main payroll platform for checks, there was also a savings tool for saving for a rainy day that employees use.
  • Very simple login and navigation throughout system
  • Easy to get documents and records retrieved
  • The pay stubs are very organized and easy to read
  • the first log in attempt for onboarding was a bit confusing
  • it kept reminding me to use the rainy day fund
very well suited for businesses with a simple payroll process to track and allocate time to one general bucket of work. Not very well suited for more complex workflows for businesses needing to allocate time to different workers comp rates or pay rates.

Gusto has been primarily used by us to process payroll and contractors. It makes payroll seamless and easy as it is very user friendly and easy to get started. It also is great in handling tax forms and reporting.
  • Hiring of new hires (ease of onboarding)
  • Providing tax forms
  • Entering/running payroll
  • Functionality is slow when over 100 employees
  • Time tracking has room for improvement
  • Interfacing for benefit enrollment with outside parties doesn't always work.
Gusto is very appropriate for sub 50 employees and potentially up to 100. It is best when Gusto is the acting benefits broker as there are some hiccups when a third party is used.

We use Gusto as our main payroll software for all of our clients as well as our own payroll. Not only is Gusto a reliable source for payroll processing, the "upload a notice" feature has been incredible for our firm. The support that Gusto offers firms like ours is unmatched with 3 different communication options.
  • Support
  • Helping with any notice received.
  • Amending quarterlies as needed.
  • I would like to be able to file a return as final through the software.
Gusto is the perfect payroll software for start up and growing companies. It is much more user friendly than some other payroll processing software's. I would recommend Gusto to any business owner or accounting firm with payroll clients. Their support is unmatched and has an answer for your questions/issues in a timely manner.

My Clients that use Gusto provide me with Accountant access to their Payroll in order for me to retrieve reports, etc. I find that it is not a user-friendly site as well as it takes significant time to figure out what the bank transactions actually are and what they match on the reports.
  • Timeliness
  • Large agency payroll
  • Unsure
  • Transaction matching to reports
  • More user friendly reporting is desired
I do not recommend Gusto as I use other payroll providers which I find are much better. Gusto does not suit my needs in any way unfortunately.

We use Gusto to manage HR operations and process payroll/taxes. It handles all of our organizational HR processes and we use it broadly across the team. In Gusto we store personnel information, file new hire reports, onboard folks, and store important documentation, such as performance reviews, pay history, signed employee handbooks, etc.
  • Processes payroll
  • Files taxes, new hire forms, etc.
  • Stores team information
  • Provides high quality customer support
  • Providing more differentiation between user roles
  • Ease of time tracking
  • Embedded reimbursements or ability to sync with a platform like Divvy
Gusto is incredible for our small team. I don't know enough about the options offered to large teams to know if it's well suited for companies with 100s of employees - but for our size, it's truly a flexible, cost-effective, excellence solution. Our payroll is not highly complex, so I'm unsure of how the solution would fare with a wide variety of employee and pay classifications, but the system seems prepared to handle it.

We use Gusto to on-board new hires, to pay our staff, and manage integrated benefits. Gusto has a delightful, intuitive and easy-to-use on-boarding process. Best of any system that I've tried, and every aspect of it is digital – including all document signing. This is great for virtual teams! We also easily, paperlessly and seamlessly sign up staff for benefits. Everything is integrated and simple to administer. We also use Gusto to manage payroll for all our clients. It's easy to toggle to different clients, and stay on top of the varied payroll and reporting schedules that our clients have.
  • Process payroll, generate payroll reports, keep track of quarterly and annual filings
  • Integrated with a host of other specialize applications to customize personnel management by client
  • Billing is simple to understand and easy for master account holders to manage when they have multiple clients.
  • The interface is terrific. Best SaaS, in my opinion!
  • Export reports directly to Excel instead of CSV.
  • Allow admins to build better, customized workflows and notifications to managers.
I would love to use Gusto for companies of all staff sizes but I understand that larger businesses will opt for a PEO and willingly give up flexibility and features to do that. However, I love that Gusto can be customized on so many levels – offer letter, adding documents for new hires, document verification, deploying documents to existing staff, tracking who has signed, helping staff select health benefits (love that this is an entirely paperless process!), screen share support (love this!), a host of integrations with other apps are easy to link up. The interface is delightful (love the piglet!), HR support for Master Admins is very professional. There are templates, forms, rules and updates provided for all States. And the reports are so easy to read, customize and understand. Amazing!

Onboarding and Payroll Gusto makes both very easy!
  • Onboarding is super easy for me and my employees.
  • Payroll is easy to enter.
  • Customer service is very quick and friendly.
  • Recently, they have let the ball drop a bit with submitting some state forms on time.
  • Other than this recent issues with timely forms, they have been great!
Our day-to-day needs are met with ease. Our employees are able to onboard super quickly and easily, and their pay is consistently delivered. On my end, entering my employee's work times is quick and painless. The fact that Gusto runs in the background with very little thought on my end (other than the recent issue with submitting some state forms in a timely manner), is a testament to how well they do.

The Gusto was used for payroll of the contractors and employees, who were worked for our company. It made tasks which were apprehended with ease and it helped to achieve in establishing a working system. The great option of Gusto, is that it gives you to choose the 1099 for you or you can do it yourself, which is very vital if your contractors from different states. And the last, but not least a positive greeting at your dashboard and upon completing tasks give you a really nice feeling in your work routine.
  • It is great to keep up yor payroll schedule
  • Good report management
  • You can even consider international contractors for payroll
  • It gives forehand alert for upcoming bank holidays
  • The scheduled payment always arrives on time
  • In my personal opinion, so far so good. However, my evaluation only as a user
If you are managing small business and you deal with different contractors on a distance work, Gusto is the best solution for your payroll and accounting system. It is working like Swiss watches and any support you needed you'll receive it from professionals in a step-by-step explanation. Any business starts with relations, and the best improvements of your relationship is timely managed payment which is a very good provided by Gusto.

Within Alleva we used Gusto to get pay, to request time off, and to manage and organize an org chart. All these things were super easy to use in Gusto, and were simple enough that not much training was needed. The pay stubs were easy to find, and it was simple enough to request time off, and check time off balances.
  • Get Paystubs to the User
  • Helps with Requesting Time Off
  • Organizing an Org Chart
  • They always are looking for referrals.
  • Sometimes it wasn't super easy to find time off requests
I was able to check my paystubs on a regular basis easily, and I requested time off through the interface and that went really well. When I needed to look at the org chart it was laid out plain and simple for me. When I started there filling out documentation, and my own person info was pretty easy. All In all I think it's a great tool.

Gusto is our core HR platform. We use Gusto to manage and run payroll, pay contractors, pay taxes, complete and file required tax/compliance documents, and provide employee benefits. We wanted an easy to use, cost-effective tool to handle payroll, benefits, taxes, and all the HR paperwork and Gusto has been an excellent solution for years.
  • Manage and run payroll
  • Pay contractors
  • Provide employee benefits
  • Complete and file tax/compliance documents
  • Reporting is the weakest part of the platform and needs a lot of work, but it's serviceable as is.
  • More benefit options would be nice, but it's good as is
I have recommended Gusto many times over the years. At some point Gusto may not be scalable enough for larger organizations, but I have not experienced any limitations.

Gusto is used for a number of things, including payroll, onboarding, and Human Resources needs. Mainly, it is used for logging hours, payroll, PTO, sick time, benefits, tax forms, etc. Besides this, it also helps us keep track of employee birthdays and work anniversaries so we can celebrate our employees!
  • Payroll
  • PTO Tracking.
  • Onboarding
  • Customer Support.
  • Quickbooks Integration.
Gusto is great for an easy-to-use perspective of employees. Many find it to be user-friendly and easy to navigate. I feel like this tool works the best when you have someone on your team that is knowledgeable of the platform and can help other employees, as sometimes Gusto's customer support team can be difficult to get a hold of.

We used Gusto to process payroll, pay payroll taxes, and manage health insurance benefits. The interface is clean and user-friendly. The functionality is very good. The customer service and support are the worst I've ever experienced in over 30 years of processing payroll and/or benefits administration.
  • Customer Interface
  • Efficiency Processing Payroll
  • Timely File Payroll Tax Payments
  • All customer service functions are routed to people who cannot help
  • No dedicated Account Manager
  • 4 to 6 day response time to emails
  • No direct contact to Customer Support
  • For me it was virtually impossible to reach a live person to discuss issues.
  • No last names, direct phone number, or phone extensions.
  • Zero sense of urgency.
This service may be useful, and affordable, for very small businesses that only need to process payroll and have payroll taxes paid.

If I could give Gusto a negative rating I would. Their software is "relatively" easy to use for simply posting payroll and having new employees enter their data - beyond that the software and support are horrible. The support team is offshore and not trained in payroll, they are trained in using the software. The support hours are limited. Reporting is nearly non-existent. There are reports though they are immature and difficult to access. I've yet to get a decent report with an easy-to-use layout that works. We work with MANY other payroll companies and this one is the worst.
  • Easy for employees to upload their data
  • Simple payroll input and running payroll
  • Support Hours
  • Reporting
  • User interface
  • Support knowledge and training
If you have 5 or fewer employees and do not keep monthly financial records for your business.

We use Gusto to clock in and clock out in order to get paid. Gusto handles the payroll processing for our accountants. Gusto is used for all employees in order to get paid properly.
  • Handles state/federal taxes for each user
  • Handles direct deposit
  • The website appears simple enough for users
  • The Gusto website often times won't load the page you want and will load the wrong page multiple times before it will finally work
  • Gusto won't allow anyone to manually input a clock out time in the future. It will only accept the current timestamp or a previous timestamp
  • Gusto sends out multiple annoying emails
Gusto appears to be successful on the accountant side because the users who handle the payroll side seem to like this product. Most users do not like using Gusto because of its annoying inconsistencies. It might work well enough if all you need to do is manually input start/stop times without using the clock-in feature.

Our company utilizes Gusto for our payroll needs. Gusto is a value option for small businesses needing payroll and banking needs within the cannabis industry.
  • Easy to navigate their software
  • Simple employee set up
  • Great customer service
  • Cannabis industry friendly
  • I dislike having to get a code in order to speak with a customer service agent
  • The option to include a retro pay on current payroll
  • Gusto checks for employees without bank accounts
If you have a small to the medium employee base, Gusto would be the software company to engage for services. Easy employee profile setup, simple coding changes, and a commitment to quick answers regarding issues. The biggest drawback is that companies have to cut their own payroll checks for employees without bank accounts.

  • Reading what is asked in emails and contacting the client.
Gusto is great if you just want basic payroll. In our company, everyone is on salary and therefore it is usually quite simple to log in and process payroll.
There are a few areas that really could do with improvement.
* Customer service has really gone downhill lately, and I am finding that when I call the staff is friendly, but inadequately trained. We are a small company and I just do not have the time to spend an hour on a phone call and not even get a resolution.
* the PTO area of the portal needs updating. I need to be able to actually see the dates that someone has taken off and when I make an adjustment to an employee's time there should be an area for notes so that we can look back and know why a change was made.

Gusto is our all-in-one HR, Payroll, and Benefits manager. It provides easy access to paychecks/stubs, tax documentation, and our healthcare/lifetime benefits allowing for an easy-to-access solution for each team member. Gusto simplifies the process of receiving pertinent employment documentation needed by the employee. We no longer need to request a document, instead, we can search for and download anything needed in the Gusto portal.

  • Providing Tips on Paycheck Management
  • Communication concerning system changes
  • The ability to contact your employer directly through Gusto.
Gusto does a fantastic job of providing information concerning the employees' overarching employment needs. It is a fantastic one-stop-shop for W-2s, Health/Life Insurance benefits, adding to your 401K, Paycheck details, and expectations. It takes the pressure off the employer to provide constant updates to the employee and also allows a centralized place to get HR-related tasks done. However, Gusto does not provide a strong communication/escalation tool for employees to file HR complaints or address simple HR needs. It would be great if Gusto continued to grow in that direction, allowing for the submission and tracking of office purchase needs, HR complaints, Time-off tracking... etc.

We use it for onboarding new clients and tracking payroll and management. We also use it to oversee the deliverance of different benefits so employees can see different options that are available to them. The platform makes it easy to navigate these issues and removes the need for a full-time Human Resources professional to manage these issues.
  • Payroll management
  • Tax form management
  • Onboarding
  • Employee feedback
  • Employee questions on different aspects of the benefits
  • Customer service regarding payment
Gusto is great for a small business that doesn't have a full-time HR person or who wants to offload some of the responsibilities of employee management from other managers. It's easy to use and has a nice platform. Great for a company with largely tech-savvy younger employees who will find the system easy to navigate.

We use Gusto as our HR platform, including payroll, benefits, expense reimbursement, offer letters, and onboarding. We use Gusto for salaried employees, hourly employees with time tracking, and contractor payments. Overall, Gusto simplifies HR administration and keeps us compliant with taxes. It has helped us scale from initial handful employees to 30+ today.
  • Payroll
  • Benefits
  • Offer letters
  • Better customer service
  • More support around state tax registrations
  • More general compliance support
Gusto has been well-suited to a startup environment. They have made it easy to navigate choosing benefits and their platform is easy to use for both administrators and employees. They integrate well with Quickbooks and make filing W-2s and 1099s easy. It may be less appropriate for bigger companies that may need more sophisticated HR support or better rates on health insurance.

We have employees that work remotely across the United States, so Gusto helps alleviate that burden with direct deposits, requesting PTO, and other features available to us as employees. Gusto allows for employees to edit their details on their own at any point without needing to talk to HR or go through a lengthy process which is extremely convenient for everyone.
  • Easy PTO Requesting
  • Simple Tax Updating Process
  • Links to Google Calendar so we can always see who is on PTO at our company.
  • Having a Volunteer PTO option would be nice.
Our company has a team of less than 20 people, so that's my scope of reference, but it has been extremely easy to use and implement for both our salaried and hourly employees. Given what I know about the platform, I think it would also be well-suited for large teams of varying technical ability. The interface is really user friendly.

We use Gusto for to calculate payroll, manage time tracking, and vacation and sick days. Gusto files and pays all required taxes on on behalf. This saves us a lot of time.
  • Calculate Payroll for both Salaried and Hourly Employees
  • Files Tax Report and pays estimated taxes due on our Behalf
  • Personalized Customer Support 1 on 1 phone assistance
  • Time Tracking can be improved - QR code assigned to employee that we can add to their badge for employees to scan in and out (either on an iPad or a stationary computer) as offered in the free app called Time Station
We like Gusto a lot - the best feature is the Concierge Service - the reps are friendly, knowledgeable and always sincerely wanting to help.

My company offers payroll solutions to small businesses. After years of using the other 'leader' in the payroll processing industry, I discovered Gusto. I was pleasantly surprised by Gusto's intuitive interface, ease of use, and very responsive customer service. To top it off, Gusto was less expensive than the other choices.
  • Great user interface.
  • Easy to use.
  • Very good customer service.
  • Nothing comes to mind - I have been extremely pleased.
Typical small business owners have neither the time nor the patience to spend a lot of time finding, learning, setting up, and administering a payroll service. Gusto excels and asking the right questions during setup and getting things right the first time. The interface is very easy to use and allows the small business owner to put payroll on 'auto-pilot' very quickly.

This was initially great and very smooth with Gusto. However, in the last two years, the problems began. Two years ago we were probably 20 employees, we're now at 30 employees. Anything related to Gusto that involves human beings is abominably terrible. The service and sales, anything with people is horrifically bad. Support regularly makes commitments to get back to us or resolve issues and does not meet their commitment, we have to continuously follow up. When there are more involved problems like tax errors and such that we need Gusto to resolve, this essentially takes weeks or months and in some cases is never resolved. I've currently been waiting months to get tax and other payroll errors resolved, initially Gusto told me it was a very busy time and they would respond in three weeks, however, it's been four months and after continuous pestering and attempts at escalation, our issue is still unresolved. We're now leaving Gusto, a company that at one time was my favorite partner yet now I have absolute disdain for. Even in our departure, it's a completely terrible experience where we can't get Gusto to furnish us the data related to the taxes paid on our final quarter with Gustoso that the new payroll processor can take over. I would run from this company fast, they have one of the best user interfaces, but anything with people is insanely bad, the service and support. What's worse is anyone I try and escalate to doesn't get it and thinks it's normal that Gusto replies in 3 weeks (which they actually don't reply). A company that thinks three weeks is normal, is a broken company. Even experiences related to sales like transferring our health insurance management over to Gusto were completely screwed up and a mess, with no response from Gusto or the sales rep that pitched me on the idea. After numerous attempts to contact and resolve health ins issues and no responses, I moved back to our prior solution. Again anytime you need support, they will be braindead and 'not get it and after a few attempts, you can usually get simple things fixed. Anything bigger or more complex Gusto absolutely falls on its face and creates a lot of liability as you can't fix things in your own business. RUN. I'm fairly confident Gusto and Rippling and others have paid reviewers or something as some of these companies have 5/5 on the largest reviews sites. It's impossible to make software or services, or really anything for that matter, but especially software that would garner hundreds of 5/5 reviews. Legendary products that work really well like the iPhone or iTunes in its prime probably never got 5/5 reviews, so this is very fishy.
  • User interface - fast and simple and clean
  • Relatively responsive to simple issues though may take numerous followups
  • Could be ok or even very good for very very small companies with just 2-3 employees as that tends to generate only very simple issues
  • Anything to do with people or service where people are involved is very flawed
  • Incredibly unresponsive and incapable of handling tax-related issues, whatever dept that does this is completely underfunded, understaffed, or unqualified. Tax-related issues = mistakes on the payroll end that needs to be resolved
  • Gusto inserts various messaging into employee paystubs that have nothing to do with payroll, this ranking from asking employees to donate to charities Gusto has chosen, Presidential elections, or other causes/events they choose
  • Do not under any circumstances put Gusto in charge of managing your insurance, the rollout is extremely flawed and they are unresponsive to resolving it
  • Gusto thinks responding in days or weeks is perfectly normal and acceptable, this is probably one of the core problems
Extremely small companies under 5 employee's or companies that solely pay contractors

We use Clover POS and Gusto as an app attached to Clover. It seamlessly syncs with the POS and are very satisfied with it. The on-boarding for employees is straight-forward for them, and running payroll is very easy. The support is also very good. Never had a serious problem. Highly recommend Gusto to other restaurant owners.
