In my opinion and based on my experience, they offer no follow-up on critical issues. Calling or emailing support to discuss critical issues - like, hey, I don't have health insurance because of a mistake your team made, results in NO response, ETA, or follow-up status. I believe this is very poor customer service. The reps we speak with just are "understanding", but even escalation to Tier 2 still results in no follow-ups.

It took 1 month to reach a live person that I could talk to in order to resolve a simple problem. Gusto was deducting the incorrect amounts from employee paychecks for health insurance benefits. After giving Gusto the exact amounts that should have been deducted, Gusto failed to update the deductions. Incorrect deductions amounts were processed for 2 entire months after the request to make the change was submitted.

Gusto has been on the ball with their support! Besides having chat windows available during use, they have an extensive video catalog with walkthroughs for many subjects. If I ever have a question, it's great to know that between the videos, website, and customer chat, I'll always get the answer.

Gusto's customer service has really deteriorated lately and they seem to have really changed their focus. It used to be when you called you were routed to an individual who knew about payroll, benefits, reporting, etc. but now you get someone who seems to have not received the correct training. My last call about a dismissal payroll took me over an hour of my time and the person still could not help me and finally transferred me to someone else.

[I believe that they have] absolutely dreadful customer service. If you need any kind of help from them, good luck. They're generally nice people, but [in my opinion] completely useless. [In my experience,] you'll need to follow up with them multiple times, and if you're lucky you'll get a response in a few weeks.

Any time I've had a question I've been able to chat, email or call and get an answer either immediately or within a very reasonable amount of time. The customer support representatives are always knowledgable and I've never been in a situation where they didn't know what to do. As I've already mentioned, the only thing I wish sometimes is that things could be explained with a little more "layman's" terms.

Do Not Trust Gusto

Gusto only supports the business owners, NOT the employees who may directly be impacted by the negligence of missing information. If the employee is not informed of any potential problems at the time when it would be possible to avoid financial burden, oversights or problems cannot be addressed in a timely manner. Gusto took our $0 for my federal withholding, which was NOT desired and was expensive for me personally. This problem was not clear due to Gusto's emails saying federal withholding was being taken out - but that was not accurate.

In rare times that we had to reach out to support they are fast and friendly and always eager to assist. Says a lot of software when you do not have to reach out to support very often. Quick and easy access to support channels makes it pain-free when you do encounter an issue.

Support isn't always perfect, but they make sure you get taken care of. I've seen issues where the support chat might not always appear or the phone line takes extra long to get ahold of someone. But overall their customer support team will always eventually take care of you. No real complaints.

We always get the support we need, although there have been times when we waited slightly longer for a response than we would have preferred. It may have been due to the nature of our particular support request that it needed to be escalated, causing longer wait times, and in the end it was resolved to our satisfaction.

We only had to reach out to Gusto support once, so I have a limited scope of experience here. However the response time was surprisingly fast, the answer was thorough and it solved our problems immediately. You never hope you need to use support, but if you do, Gusto has your back.

Gusto's support team is responsive and helpful and they have pretty good online resources. We've had a couple issues that didn't fit "in the box" so we've had to create a couple manual workarounds, but the tradeoff for the ease of use of Gusto is ok. Those limitations aren't because of the support team, but more technical limitations.
