Harvest has proven to be invaluable for users looking to customize their time tracking and pull detailed time reports. Users have found it helpful for managing time tracking and expense management, both for client reimbursement and company reimbursement. The software has been effective in accurately reflecting time worked on projects for clients, as well as paying hourly contractors. Additionally, Harvest has been praised by users for its ability to show clients how much time is used to complete projects and requests, aiding in project estimation and determining how much to charge clients. Harvest also facilitates invoicing, keeping all financial reporting in one accessible location and providing complete insight into the profitability of each project by tracking billable and non-billable time and expenses. It further supports businesses in evaluating the health of their operations through comprehensive reports. With its simple and effective invoicing feature, Harvest minimizes fees compared to other methods and helps organizations track time and expenses efficiently, analyze productivity, assess profitability, and plan for a successful future with accurate quotes for future projects. By providing insights into individual team members' time and project finances, Harvest aids in measuring outcomes, matching time spent on projects, making informed decisions, managing clients and individual projects, recording billable and non-billable hours, tracking work across departments, improving billing processes, providing accurate reports on hours spent on projects, replacing rough estimations, importing tracked hours from other software systems, managing digital marketing services, budgeting internal projects, ensuring transparency in time allocation within small teams or agencies, capturing timesheets for staff members, applying different rates to specific tasks, increasing accuracy in tracking client work throughout the entire organization, tracking service hours for each client and account to uphold agreements, streamlining time tracking and expense management for better project budgeting and reporting purposes. Overall, users appreciate Harvest's user-friendly interface and intuitive design that make time tracking and expense management easy and effective.

Simplicity and Intuitiveness: Many users have praised Harvest for its simple and intuitive user interface, which has made the onboarding process smooth and minimized the learning curve. They appreciate how easy it is to navigate and set up tasks in the software.

Flexible Time Tracking: The availability of multiple ways to track time in Harvest has been highly valued by users. With options to run timers constantly or add all their time at the end of the day, users can choose a method that suits their working style. This flexibility accommodates different preferences and enhances productivity.

Accurate Time Tracking: Users find the start-stop functionality of timers in Harvest effortless and accurate. They have mentioned that this feature allows them to track their time with precision, ensuring that billable hours are recorded properly. The ability to round up to the next 6 minutes also simplifies the time tracking process for billing purposes.

Limited Integration with Other Software: Some users have expressed frustration with Harvest's limited integration capabilities, particularly when it comes to project management systems like Basecamp and Asana. They feel that the lack of seamless integration hinders their workflow and makes it difficult to manage projects efficiently.

Difficulty in Finding Specific Items: Several reviewers have mentioned that they find it challenging to locate specific items within Harvest's interface. They feel that the organization of tabs for time, projects, team, and reports is not always clear, making it time-consuming to find what they need.

Users commonly recommend the following actions when using Harvest:

Firstly, they suggest trying out the free trial of Harvest to see if it fits their workspace needs. They also recommend integrating Harvest with project management tools like Trello or Asana to minimize manual data entry.

Secondly, reviewers advise exploring Harvest thoroughly before implementing it for small businesses. They also recommend considering other time tracking software like Toggl and TSheets to make an informed decision.

Lastly, users highly recommend Harvest for any-size team to track time and analyze data effectively. They find it helpful for invoicing clients and suggest utilizing the Reports section for quick invoice generation. Additionally, they recommend creating a quick how-to guide for employees to ensure easy adoption of Harvest's features.

These recommendations highlight the importance of trying out the free trial, exploring the software fully, and considering integration with project management tools. Users also emphasize the benefits of using Harvest for tracking time, analyzing data, and managing invoices efficiently.

We use Harvest to track all of our work activities. We track all billable (client services) and non-billable (admin function) work in order to get an accurate picture of how time is being spent across the agency.
  • It is easy to set up categories by client and activity.
  • The timer function is helpful for tracking how time is spent.
  • I don't think that either Harvest needs to improve or that the user needs to improve, but sometimes the categories are a little restricted.
  • Color coding would make it easier for users to differentiate between categories/clients.
Harvest is well-suited for users who are working on multiple clients and need to track each client's work. I could also see users who are working on single clients benefiting from using Harvest because you can get really granular in the tracking.

Harvest is used in our organization to track time and expenses and invoice clients. If you work on a project by project basis and need to know if you're spending your time profitably then Harvest is a great tool to implement. We put our team of full-timers and contractors on there to track both billable and nonbillable time and billable and non-billable expenses so that we have complete insight into the profitability of each project. We also use their timesheets to pay hourly employees and contractors and use their reports to regularly evaluate the health of our business. The invoicing feature is simple and effective and we prefer it because it minimizes fees compared to other invoicing and payment methods.
  • Time tracking in harvest is excellent. You can start and stop timers from their desktop applications, from the browser, and even using API integrations like slash commands in slack. It is easy to adjust entries as necessary, submit timesheets for approval (if you need to) and track time in whatever way works for you.
  • Harvest's invoicing is excellent. The automatic messages are very simple to setup, the invoices are easy to pay and have very low fees when using paypal (50 cents), and the invoices are easy to create and track.
  • Harvest has excellent support that is extremely responsive.
  • Our complaints are few and Harvest is still better than most, but improvements to time tracking could be made that allowed each individual user to have their best setup instead of making that a company-wide setting.
If you work on a project by project basis and need to evaluate the profitability of projects that are billed cost plus, time and materials, retainer, hourly, or whatever, it's great.

We use Harvest across the entire organization to accurately track billable (and non-billable) time for our clients and management purposes. When implemented properly I was able to increase our billable rates by over 50%, simply by improving the accuracy of the data using Harvest. Harvest has a lot of integrations with other major tools, and we used those integrations (and built our own) to again increase the accuracy of the data.
  • Easy to use
  • Lots of integrations
  • Good pricing
  • Lack of permission sets (need more flexible or customizable permissions)
  • Adoption by the team (not the software's fault, time tracking in general is tough to implement)
It works really well when you do repeat work for customers. Setting up new customers is not terrible, but if you have thousands, it will be tedious. I've found that if you get too granular with the data, projects, and tasks, then you will find it to be less accurately selected by team members. Keep It Short Simple (KISS).

We used Harvest for time tracking at two previous jobs I held within the past five years. Harvest was able to implement time tracking for various projects and make for more accurate quoting for future projects.
  • Harvest is easy to use and has multiple avenues. You can use it in browser, as an add-on/extension for your browser, as a standalone application, or even on your phone for mobile time tracking (meetings, etc.).
  • Harvest breaks time down into every aspect of a project, based on how the system management decides to break things down. Projects can have multiple categories (editing, meetings, pre production, etc.) and each can be selected when starting your time tracking.
  • Harvest breaks down statistics and averages very well. This makes for an excellent spectrum of time to look over average project times and determine more accurate quoting for future projects. Being able to see detailed breakdowns is very, very helpful and saves time and money.
  • Harvest can be implemented into other software like Slack, Trello, and Teamwork, so it's easy to continue tracking with whatever workflow you are using.
  • As with all time tracking software, Harvest puts stress on employees to either report their time extremely accurately, or buffer time to bloat their schedules and make themselves seem more productive. This is an unavoidable issue with time-tracking software, but at least having access to it on multiple devices makes it simpler.
Harvest is great for a mid-sized business with many working parts. 1 or 2 managers can handle the system and input project categories allowing for users to quickly log their time in projects.

Harvest has helped us with keeping track of our individual team member's time and also helped us with keeping track of finances as it relates to any project. Hypothetically people also use it for sending invoices and proposals, but we haven't found that feature to be as helpful as others have said it is.
  • Easy to use time tracking
  • They have probably the best/simplest app out there.
  • Their export features on timing are great for sending out invoices and keeping track of what's billable and not billable.
  • Their pricing is pretty expensive.
  • It doesn't integrate with many products (outside of Basecamp from what we know of).
  • They don't allow for people to be admins for specific clients, it's all or nothing.
We have a marketing company. We don't want to pressure our team into working like crazy, but we do need to provide a breakdown in time spent on any task we work on for our clients. We need it to be easy to track along the way and to get notified if we are getting too close to being over budget in a given week on a few month long process.

Our entire company (5 people) uses Harvest. We use it to track all internal and project time to get a glimpse into where our time is going and also to bill our client. We don't use the internal Harvest invoices. We copy the invoice into QuickBooks and then email it to our clients. We love setting project budgets and measuring our time.
  • Enter time anywhere. I love that there is a desktop app, iPhone app, and web app, and also that you can enter your time from other programs you're using like Trello or Asana. You don't even have to have harvest open to track your time which eliminates duplicate entries.
  • Reporting is very simple. Get a diary glympse of what your team has worked on that week. At the beginning of each week, I print this out and go over key questions with my team.
  • Very inexpensive. We found the cost of harvest to be much cheaper than competing software without limiting what features we could access.
  • I would like to see better integration between quickbooks and harvest. I have to create a harvest invoice and then copy to quickbooks but when that is finally paid, none of that info transfers to harvest so I have a ton of "unpaid" invoices in harvest.
  • It would nice if my team could request to be part of a project. There are many times I have a team member jump on a project but then they enter their time in the wrong place because they didn't have access to the project. If they could click a button to request access and I get an email that I can approve them with, it would help things a ton.
For project or service based companies this is a winner. Being able to estimate time and costs and measure actual vs estimated for future projects is the biggest winner for me.

Might be less ideal if you're a product based company. but still useful.

Our group uses Harvest to track time we spend. In a smaller group like ours, it's not always clear where everyone is spending time. With Harvest, we're able to keep tabs on it.
  • Manual additions and auto count-up from manually entered time
  • Native desktop app with play and pause buttons
  • Cannot track time for anything other than specific, existing projects
  • No reminders to check progress or enter tasks you're working on
I think that if one is trying to ascertain how much time is being spent on particular broad projects or clients, Harvest can be useful. However, I would prefer a tool that proactively asks me for information about what I'm working on, and one that allows for time tracking outside of specific projects.

We are using Harvest to track time on all projects. This tracking allows us to manage expenses and bill our clients at an accurate rate. We also use Harvest for building project estimates that don't require a full proposal. We use Harvest for all invoicing. This has helped our business keep all our financial reporting in one easy to access location.
  • Harvest tracks time. Enough said. There is a great desktop and mobile tracking app for Harvest that makes it very easy to track all billable time.
  • Harvest is easy invoicing at it's best. We are able to create invoices based on project tracked time and quickly get paid from our clients.
  • Harvest also allows us to build estimates for smaller projects giving the client the ability to accept the estimate online. This helps us kick off smaller projects faster.
  • We would love to see Harvest build a feature for more detailed proposals that could be signed by the client and then automatically be turned into a billable invoice. The estimate falls short of this for larger projects.
  • Sending an invoice directly to the client from the Harvest dashboard can sometimes fail. Because it's coming from a spoofed email- some clients never get the invoice because it get's trapped in their spam folder.
Harvest is perfect for small to medium-sized companies with multiple users working on multiple projects. It allows business owners to easily manage invoice and expense tracking without the need of hiring for a bookkeeping position. Larger enterprise companies may find the features useless if they already have an accounting department in place.

Harvest is used company wide at Level Interactive. It is primarily used for time tracking/integrating with our workflow management software, Asana. Harvest makes it easy to track time throughout the day with intuitive web app design, timers, Chrome extension, and Asana integration. In comparison to other tools that I've used in the past, I find that Harvest offers a far lower impact on productivity.
  • I really like the timer feature. I often add all my tasks at the beginning of the day and turn the timers off and on. This allows for easy and highly accurate management of time spent on agency and client projects.
  • Asana INTEGRATION. Can't say this enough. Although it isn't perfect. I can quickly add all of my tasks to harvest while reviewing them in the morning. The lower the impact on my productivity the better.
  • Intuitive web app design. This takes literally no time to learn how to use. I was up and running with the software in one day. Which is exactly what one wants in software that literally drives the invoicing for a company. Simple is best, don't overcomplicate with new features.
  • Asana integration. I wish that it was easier to sync/map projects from one system to the other. When adding a time from Asana, it does not automatically sync with the task assigned in Asana. This would help make this process a lot easier.
  • Expand the Chrome extension to be able to view your whole day. The extension is limited, but it could use a little bump up in functionality.
  • I would like to get reminders on mobile/email to submit my week for approval. I always forget, but I think that would be really helpful.
Harvest is great for companies, like mine, wherein there does not need a lot of details about when services were recorded or provided throughout the day. Whereas for other companies/non-profits it is helpful to have a calendar and time-based schedule to prove that service took place in a certain window.

My whole company uses Harvest as our time tracking tool. We track both internal tasks as well as tasks within each department for our clients. It works in conjunction with Basecamp that we use as our project management system to easily log time on what client and task we're currently working on.
  • Ease of use - Especially once a project in Harvest is setup, it's easy to duplicate the project from month to month
  • Multiple ways to track time - Our team uses Harvest in different ways, and it's easy to use for everyone's style. Some people run their timer constantly and switch when they change tasks, and some add all of their time at the end of the day.
  • Graphs - A simple color-coded line graph shows for each client and project so with a quick look at the screen we can tell which clients are under and over budget.
  • Reminders - The system reminds users if they've left a timer running overnight or all weekend, both with an email and a message within the system.
  • Reporting - the reports could be a little more intuitive and easy to set up
  • Permission level - lots of team members accidentally put a "project manager" check next to a contractor on specific projects that upgrades their level on the whole site vs just that one project. It would be nice to be able to lock that in the settings.
Harvest is great for tracking time across numerous employees that work on numerous projects, and need to be kept track of what piece each of the employees does separately from each other. It would be overkill if just one employee works on a project, or there's not very many projects or tasks that are worked on.

Harvest is used to track time by contractors, employees, and projects. It is used across multiple departments. It makes timekeeping very straightforward and simple, and our contractors use it to submit and track their invoices to the company as well. It is one of the most user-friendly products out there and has made what is normally a mundane and sometimes complicated task extremely easy, effective, and manageable.
  • Tracking time against projects and tasks is very easy
  • Creation of invoices works very well, selection of different formats is easy
  • Tracking invoices, closing and reminders are all very straightforward and easy
  • Harvest is just an easy to use product. The UI and process are very well thought out - it just works. Best in Class solution to be sure.
  • Price is somewhat high as compared to alternatives
  • Reporting could be a little better, but really it's not bad
Harvest is very suitable for small companies, independent contractors or anyone who bills time or projects. I would strongly recommend it for small companies with multiple clients or even just a solo consultant billing to one or two companies or projects.

Harvest is being used by our entire team. It is a small team of 7 employees. We use it for across the board time tracking for employee hours, but also to keep track of time being used for each client. Without this time tracking, we would have to manually keep track of how many hours are being allocated to each client project. We also use Harvest for invoicing. It addresses the problem of not knowing how much money to expect for the month, and it also makes for a professional looking invoice template that is easy to use.
  • Time Tracking: Each employee has their own account. They can enter in their time whenever they'd like, to each project.
  • Project Mapping: We are able to separate clients and create projects under each. This allows for quick time tracking and maximum organization.
  • Invoicing: We are able to quickly put together invoices for each client and mark the progress from "drafted" to "sent" to "received" and then able to see the monthly invoiced amounts. I am also able to send out invoicing reminders if it is past the due date.
  • I have had issues in the past with Harvest communicating with QBO. My deposits would not match. I had to disconnect them because of this, but it could have been user error.
If you are a company that uses time tracking for clients with individual projects, this is for you. As a manager, you are easily able to see how much budget is left for each project, and which employee spent time on each project down to the minute. Also, as an accountant, you are able to quickly send out professional invoices. I would not recommend this to a company where time tracking to the minute is not important. Or to a company that doesn't send out large monthly invoices.

Harvest is used to measure the outcomes of the company. This tool allows us to measure in real-time if our time and resources are working on a certain project. We use this tool with another systems to match the time we sell with the time we spend on all our projects cross-department, consequentially helps us with decision making.
  • Real-time hours spent
  • Connectors with other tools like asana and google calendar
  • Easy to use
  • Resources allocation
  • Export info directly to Google SpreadSheets
  • Found irregularities of the time reported automatically
A lot of companies do not have enough human resources to make the operations work appropriately. If you measure what your resource is spent on time you could take actions to see if you have excessive work or simply need to make better decisions of what your resource needs to do with their work time.

We use Harvest across our entire agency to manage all of our clients, individual projects for those clients, and record billable hours from our team on those projects. We also organize our departments and internal projects to record time spent on non-billable projects. This gives us better insight into balancing billable hours compared to internal projects or new products.
  • Interface design and usability
  • Metrics and reporting
  • Invoicing and online payment options
  • Desktop and mobile apps
If you're starting out as a freelancer, the free tier is feature packed and suited to start taking on projects and start billing - but limited to 2 projects. As an agency, it's great for managing clients and sub-projects, setting budgets and seeing daily updates on time tracking and billable hours overall.

I think it's great for agencies, but if you're new to freelancing and don't have enough knowledge of billing and contracts, Bonsai might be a better option that provides that support.

We are a smallish (13 people) PR company. As most of our work is billed by hourly rate, we needed an easy-to-use system for time and project tracking. Our previous system was clunky, ancient, and essentially meant for a much larger company. We tried out several options, and Harvest had the best balance of features and user-friendliness. It does what it's meant to do really well with very little distraction. It also works well in the mobile which was a big plus for us.
  • Time tracking. It's so easy to use you never forget to fill in the hours.
  • Reports. Very good and clear reports so you can check if the project is going according to the schedule and budget.
  • Light expense tracking. It's easy to add expenses and there's no need for a third-party software for this.
  • If you have many projects going on simultaneously, Harvest becomes progressively more time-consuming to use.
  • I have some doubts if the software would work so well in a large corporation. Great for small firms and teams, though.
  • Billing capabilities are quite rudimentary.
In my experience, Harvest is an excellent time tracking and light project management tool for small companies and teams, especially if you are selling services (consultancy, etc.). It's easy to use, has a good set of features but doesn't suffer from featuritis. It's also good for checking the health of the project regarding schedule and budget. I don't think, however, that the software would scale that well to be useful in really big organisations.

I use Harvest as a sole-trader to ensure I keep track of my projects and time spent. Ensuring that I don't go into overspend unnecessarily.
  • Useful for keeping a list of job numbers
  • Flexibility in roles and fees
  • Overview of monthly spend
  • As a sole user there is no prompt to enter in the time, a feature only available for multiple users.
  • Better functionality for sole users.

Probably good for teams, but as I'm finding out, less useful for individuals.

Everyone at our agency uses Harvest, from our CEO, all the way to our interns. As a marketing agency, we bill clients based on hours, and Harvest helps us track those billable hours and keep tabs on every client's budget so that we don't go over hours and lose money. It keeps us efficient.
  • Employee time tracking is easy to use. Great UI.
  • It integrates with other systems we use, like Trello, making it even easier to track our time and tasks.
  • Project time tracking is very transparent.
  • This is more of a time tracking tool, so if you are looking for something that will help you more on the accounting side, I think this tool might be lacking a bit.
I think Harvest is great for small teams and agencies, or businesses that do project work. I've used tools (like ADP) in the past, and Harvest is a much easier tool to train people on. If your main goal is time tracking and tracking project hours, this is definitely the tool you should use.

Harvest is being used across our entire organization. We are currently using it to track our team's administration time as well as very important clients' time. Since it connects into our invoice software, it is easy to assign time to a specific invoice/project. It is time tracker through and through and operates at its best when this is all you are using it for.
  • Time tracking. It has a simple interface that makes it easy for each employee to watch thier time in and what they spent their day/ week/ monthly effort on.
  • Harvest also allows easy setup. Their platform has all the necessary tools to get going including an import tool that you can use to push information over from a previous time tracking software.
  • Harvest also has fantastic customer service.
  • A missing feature with Harvest is the lack of interaction with other billing software except for Quick Books Online. While this is great to start out with, it does not have a lot of practicality the larger your agency gets or the more diverse your income streams are.
Harvest would be great for any small to midsize agency (5-55 people) that is looking to better manage and more importantly, better report on time. It allows for transparency with your clients as well as within your agency. It would be less appropriate to be used as a clock in and clock out system if that is how your agency or company operates. This platform does a great job at making it customizable to your time tracking needs, no matter how mundane or extravagant they are.

We tested our systems with Harvest, importing tracked hours from Toggl. During this trial our whole team of developers were tasked with tracking billable and non-billable hours; as power users, this was an easy upgrade.
  • Harvest is exceptional at recording billable hours in small teams. Timers installed natively on our devices make recording hours so easy, that it team members just do it and we lose less recorded billable time.
  • Harvest is really simple. Interface is intuitive and setup is easy and straightforward.
  • Harvest should work on most devices. It has apps for phones and OSX as well as a Chrome plugin.
  • Harvest is a dead simple invoicing tool, which means is not a strong accounting tool. The workflow, from billable hours > invoice > recording payment > reports is an easy way to ensure your team is getting paid, but companies who expect growth will very quickly find Harvest lacking
  • Harvest integrates with a lot of cloud tools, but is missing some of the newer tools out there like Wave.
Small startups will find it easy to get up and running with Harvest. Expect to start looking for more robust tools immediately upon finding some success.

It is used by our Customer Support team to track service hours spent on each client and account. It addresses the business problem of tracking allotted service hours in order to ensure that client agreements are upheld.
  • Project time tracking
  • Employee time tracking
  • Client/project organization
  • Time budgeting on a project basis, not a monthly basis does not allow us to get notifications every month when clients go over their service hours
If you really rely on notifications for time exceeded on projects on a monthly basis it may be less suited.

Harvest is being used to track how much billable and nonbillable time we use every day. This software is being used throughout the entire organization. The main business problem it addresses is how much time we work on our clients. This helps with upsell opportunities to get more hours from clients.
  • Field to provide details.
  • Capability to break down hours by projects.
  • Easy to manage.
  • A desktop widget would be useful.
  • The overall weekly report is not easy to read.
  • Software times out sometimes.
Harvest is definitely well suited for organizations that need its employees to track hours and projects every day. I would say this software is less appropriate for organizations that use a retainer for clients. However, if the organization finds time tracking for projects valuable, then Harvest is definitely an appropriate software to use.

We use Harvest across the whole team to track utilisation, plan resources, capture billable work and create invoices.
  • Fully Customisable.
  • Works well on all devices.
  • Easy to use with a clean look and feel.
  • Integration with other software could be better.
Harvest is great for a consulting business like ours - provides most of what we need and not much that we don't.
