HealthStream is a versatile platform that is utilized by various healthcare organizations to meet their education and training needs. For instance, University Healthcare Alliance relies on HealthStream to ensure compliance with clinical, non-clinical, and regulatory courses, while also connecting users to live classroom opportunities. COOK Medical utilizes HealthStream to provide formal training on hospital protocols, enabling employees to understand their legal obligations and responsibilities for the safety of themselves and others. Similarly, Genesis Health Systems relies on HealthStream to track course completions for their vast workforce of 5,000 healthcare employees, increasing compliance with Joint Commission and CMS regulations.

HealthStream serves as a one-stop employee portal for healthcare workers across multiple organizations. It allows them to access essential functionalities such as uploading educational materials, tracking classes for compliance with Joint Commission requirements, ensuring employee proficiency through demonstrations, and managing payroll and leave matters. Additionally, the platform supports the creation, distribution, and monitoring of training modules and certifications across multiple locations. Furthermore, HealthStream is not limited to individual institutions but extends its benefits across entire hospital networks. Several major hospitals rely on this platform for eLearnings, yearly required training sessions, Epic Testing, and maintenance of extensive employee transcripts. The ability to fulfill these training needs online eliminates the need for costly and time-consuming classroom sessions.

Moreover, HealthStream plays a crucial role in managing nurses' prestart education within large companies with multiple brands and offices. Its enterprise-wide Learning Management System facilitates initial hire onboarding as well as ongoing regulatory and compliance training. User-specific course assignments based on job roles are made possible through the platform's tracking features which enable accurate completion records for accreditation and regulatory audits. Apart from its impact on compliance and education requirements, HealthStream has proven instrumental in specific areas such as CPR and ACLS certification at a community-based hospital. Staff members are now able to train around the clock, reducing travel time and costs. The platform's Authoring Center empowers healthcare organizations to create custom courses tailored to their facility or department, ensuring relevant and effective training.

Overall, HealthStream has garnered positive feedback from users who appreciate its ability to centralize training and education efforts across healthcare organizations. It is utilized by employees at all levels, from new hires receiving necessary onboarding training to existing staff accessing additional training resources, including annual requirements and company policy updates. With its flexible features and user-friendly interface, HealthStream has successfully provided continuing education for the entire hospital staff. Various departments have utilized the platform to efficiently distribute important information and ensure that employees are up-to-date with company policies and new systems, services, or features.

One of the key advantages of HealthStream is its ability to streamline the training process for organizations with multiple locations. By using the platform, healthcare providers can assign and monitor courses for regulatory reasons and job-specific training across various sites. This ensures consistency in training standards and helps organizations stay compliant with industry regulations. HealthStream has also been highly beneficial for new hires, as it enables them to receive necessary training upon onboarding. The platform provides a comprehensive library of resources that can support new employees in learning about their roles and responsibilities within the organization. This not only enhances their understanding but also contributes to a smoother transition into their new positions. Existing employees have also greatly benefited from HealthStream by gaining access to additional training opportunities. The platform offers a wide range of courses that go beyond mandatory requirements, allowing employees to further develop their skills and knowledge in areas relevant to their roles. This continuous learning approach fosters professional growth and keeps employees engaged and motivated.

In summary, HealthStream serves as a valuable tool for healthcare organizations in meeting compliance requirements, providing ongoing education and training, streamlining processes across multiple locations, and supporting the development of both new hires and existing staff. Its user-friendly interface combined with its extensive library of resources makes it an essential platform in the healthcare industry.

We used it across the organization to complete compliance and job-specific training. This was used at about 20 different locations as well as corporate. We used the HealthStream package of courses, as well as built our own courses and uploaded them into HealthStream. It addresses training needs for compliance reasons.
  • Track training.
  • Reporting.
  • Course building.
  • More intuitive.
Healthstram is good for healthcare, but there may be other options out there. They claim to be used in the majority of hospitals, so that’s nice as there is less of a learning curve for people in the healthcare field. I was not impressed from a learning perspective on the courses that they had in their course package, but it’s easier than building courses if you don’t have an instructional designer on staff.

  • Tracked compliance training.
  • Tracked training hours.
I liked Cornerstone better from an LMS perspective, they were a bit easier to use and had a better user experience. Cornerstone had more to offer as well with reporting and was a bit more user-friendly from an administrator perspective. Cornerstone also is not just for healthcare but other industries.
I only used HealthStream for a short time, but it wasn’t overly user-friendly or pretty. There were some quirks that I didn’t like, like the quiz builder or uploading lists. Whenever you assigned a group it was difficult to tell and confirm that the assignment went out. Overall I like other systems better.

My former organization was using HealthStream across departments, primarily to role out required elearning. HealthStream allowed administrators to not only deliver the trainings electronically, but to also monitor and track the statistics of users who had completed the trainings. Some of the trainings also included short quizzes at the end, also deployed through HealthStream, which greatly helped track employee comprehension.
  • Designing elearning tutorials and assessments is very intuitive in HealthStream. This benefits the designer, but also the end user or employee who will ultimately take the test since the layout is also very user friendly.
  • Tracking statistics for employees; it is very easy to pull reports in HealthStream that detail scores for students on assessments, length of time it took to complete training, questions that were often answered incorrectly, etc.
  • Searching different user and employee groups for tracking is very intuitive, which saves quite a deal of time in the long run when needing to access these employee populations.
  • Embedding elearning tutorials into HealthStream can be a bit complicated, and even slow down the site for the end user. In my experience, I found it much easier to just offer a link to the tutorial through the assessment portion.
  • Keeping users synced into the most up-to-date user groups can be a bit tricky. If you create your own student groups, and then these students transfer to a different job role or department, you will manually have to make these changes yourself. A more automated process would be great.
I think that the biggest area where HealthStream is suited is to track required trainings, presentations, tests etc. Because of its intuitive design and relative ease to set up required material, it would be very easy to implement HealthStream on a larger scale. However, if the primary goal of the end user is simply to roll out assessments, something like SurveyMonkey may be a better option.
  • Easier and faster way for departments to be compliant with required trainings such as HIPAA and Information Security that is audited by the Joint Commission.
  • Increased motivation in employees to take the required trainings as they know their participation will be tracked, and that they may need to complete an assessment.
I would most definitely choose to renew our contract as HealthStream is a great tool that meets the needs of the organization when it comes to delivering and tracking training. Prior to rolling out HealthStream, most of the tracking would be done manually through Excel, and classes would all have to be done in person. HealthStream really optimizes everyone's time, and makes everything more efficient.

We are currently using the HealthStream Learning Center, Authoring Center, HeartCode BLS, HeartCode ACLS and NRP facility wide. With the use of HealthSteam our CPR and ACLS compliance number went from 70% to almost 95%. HealthStream has giving our organization the ability to train staff 24/7. Having a community based hospital with 5 community clinic locations, HealthStream has decreased travel time and cost by staff. The Authoring Center has given us the ability to create courses in a short time that are specific to our facility or even a department. It can address issues and assign course immediately.
  • Training needs can be addressed immediately.
  • Complainance rates have increased
  • Training cost have been decreased
  • The ability to upload videos can be a bit time consuming
  • Baby CPR Mannequins tend to break and are a bit difficult for most staff to use.
.
  • Lowered cost of training
  • Increased compliance
Best overall in both price and ability to offer all the modules that our organization required. HealthStream gave the best opportunity for growth with a system versus the other systems that we looked at. It also offered us the ability to customize programs to fit the organization. HealthStreams gives us the support of other local healthcare facilities that are using the same programs.
Our employees have become used to using the system.
