HealthStream is a versatile platform that is utilized by various healthcare organizations to meet their education and training needs. For instance, University Healthcare Alliance relies on HealthStream to ensure compliance with clinical, non-clinical, and regulatory courses, while also connecting users to live classroom opportunities. COOK Medical utilizes HealthStream to provide formal training on hospital protocols, enabling employees to understand their legal obligations and responsibilities for the safety of themselves and others. Similarly, Genesis Health Systems relies on HealthStream to track course completions for their vast workforce of 5,000 healthcare employees, increasing compliance with Joint Commission and CMS regulations.

HealthStream serves as a one-stop employee portal for healthcare workers across multiple organizations. It allows them to access essential functionalities such as uploading educational materials, tracking classes for compliance with Joint Commission requirements, ensuring employee proficiency through demonstrations, and managing payroll and leave matters. Additionally, the platform supports the creation, distribution, and monitoring of training modules and certifications across multiple locations. Furthermore, HealthStream is not limited to individual institutions but extends its benefits across entire hospital networks. Several major hospitals rely on this platform for eLearnings, yearly required training sessions, Epic Testing, and maintenance of extensive employee transcripts. The ability to fulfill these training needs online eliminates the need for costly and time-consuming classroom sessions.

Moreover, HealthStream plays a crucial role in managing nurses' prestart education within large companies with multiple brands and offices. Its enterprise-wide Learning Management System facilitates initial hire onboarding as well as ongoing regulatory and compliance training. User-specific course assignments based on job roles are made possible through the platform's tracking features which enable accurate completion records for accreditation and regulatory audits. Apart from its impact on compliance and education requirements, HealthStream has proven instrumental in specific areas such as CPR and ACLS certification at a community-based hospital. Staff members are now able to train around the clock, reducing travel time and costs. The platform's Authoring Center empowers healthcare organizations to create custom courses tailored to their facility or department, ensuring relevant and effective training.

Overall, HealthStream has garnered positive feedback from users who appreciate its ability to centralize training and education efforts across healthcare organizations. It is utilized by employees at all levels, from new hires receiving necessary onboarding training to existing staff accessing additional training resources, including annual requirements and company policy updates. With its flexible features and user-friendly interface, HealthStream has successfully provided continuing education for the entire hospital staff. Various departments have utilized the platform to efficiently distribute important information and ensure that employees are up-to-date with company policies and new systems, services, or features.

One of the key advantages of HealthStream is its ability to streamline the training process for organizations with multiple locations. By using the platform, healthcare providers can assign and monitor courses for regulatory reasons and job-specific training across various sites. This ensures consistency in training standards and helps organizations stay compliant with industry regulations. HealthStream has also been highly beneficial for new hires, as it enables them to receive necessary training upon onboarding. The platform provides a comprehensive library of resources that can support new employees in learning about their roles and responsibilities within the organization. This not only enhances their understanding but also contributes to a smoother transition into their new positions. Existing employees have also greatly benefited from HealthStream by gaining access to additional training opportunities. The platform offers a wide range of courses that go beyond mandatory requirements, allowing employees to further develop their skills and knowledge in areas relevant to their roles. This continuous learning approach fosters professional growth and keeps employees engaged and motivated.

In summary, HealthStream serves as a valuable tool for healthcare organizations in meeting compliance requirements, providing ongoing education and training, streamlining processes across multiple locations, and supporting the development of both new hires and existing staff. Its user-friendly interface combined with its extensive library of resources makes it an essential platform in the healthcare industry.

Healthstram is good for healthcare, but there may be other options out there. They claim to be used in the majority of hospitals, so that’s nice as there is less of a learning curve for people in the healthcare field. I was not impressed from a learning perspective on the courses that they had in their course package, but it’s easier than building courses if you don’t have an instructional designer on staff.

HealthStream is well suited for large or spread out organizations where in person training is not always feasible. It would be less appropriate for a business with less than 10 employees where in person training can be done.

HealthStream is a wonderful tool for assigning assessments and evaluating knowledge. The assessments have a large pool of questions to pull from. The exams are timed and will generate a test report at the end of the exam so the clinical team can see what tests were passed and failed. These are helpful in ensuring we know what the nurse needs extra education on. HealthStream would be less suited for education items that would need to be validated in person...skills such as CPR.

We often use healthstream as a way to complete our yearly competency of hospital protocol and policies. Its a great time saver for things like HIPAA practice and emergency code situations without having to have a meeting every year covering the same thing. Sometimes I do wish we had a meeting about new applications and programs instead of just healthstream, but I think that's a department issue more than a healthstream one.

It is extremely helpful for assigning learning opportunities to staff members. You can easily choose which assignments are necessary for which roles and departments. If items should be revisited annually you can easily configure that setting so the course reassigns each year. This feature is super helpful for compliance measures. It is not practical if hands on learning is required. In healthcare there are many things that can be addressed via HealthStream but you have to understand the limits - we wouldn't teach CPR via an online module.

I would ask the project manager/leader if they intended on developing their own content, or if they were content with HealthStream's various content libraries. The decision to use HealthStream as a development tool, internally, cannot be taken lightly. There is a lot of work and required expertise involved in designing and maintaining original course materials. I would also ask if the project manager/leader had considered the amount of time required to manage a full-service HealthStream environment.

I think that the biggest area where HealthStream is suited is to track required trainings, presentations, tests etc. Because of its intuitive design and relative ease to set up required material, it would be very easy to implement HealthStream on a larger scale. However, if the primary goal of the end user is simply to roll out assessments, something like SurveyMonkey may be a better option.

How familiar [are they with HealthStream] and how often will they take advantage of the training? Should offer more of an entry level version and an everyday user fresher training focused on recent changes and less on the basics.

Not really. I believe the HealthStream LMS can be customized for any environment. I would ask about system support, to make sure everyone in the organization can log into the environment without issues and access it from their desk as well as their home PC. Also, I would make sure it's customized to be easy for anyone to navigate through regardless of their computer literacy level.

It is very well suited for organizations that have limited resources in terms of education staff. HealthStream can be run by one person if needed. I am doing it for about 20,000 users. Ideally it would work best if you could also build your own courses and have the resources to do that.

Key Questions:
What training do you provide for administrators?
What support do you provide for administrators?
What support do you provide for students?
How often is the website down?
What operating systems are you compatible with?
How often do you update your courses?

Healthstream is an inexpensive solution for any company but particulalry for one that has employees located at more than 1 location and with employees that work shifts other than 8-5.

It was well suited for us because we have so many facilities in different locations and it was cost effective for us to have a program where everyone can go to one website and get training instead of paying a trainer to come and train our employees. It was also cost effective since they had to do the training on the computer we did not have as many employees out of the office when they were getting training. It was also good because it was able to keep track and make sure that our employees stayed in compliance. I get an email weeks ahead of time instead of finding out at the last minute that an employee is not in compliance.

HealthStream is very useful when there's a specific module or educational session that needs to reach many different people. I think this product would be useful in my current organization. As an Anesthesia practice, many of the physicians don't physically come to the office. They're contracted out to area hospitals to provide anesthesia. Having HealthStream would greatly improve our ability to educate our providers on information and meetings they're unable to attend.

Will you have a Healthstream team that will be responsible for putting in the employees so they are entered before required training?
Will you have someone that is able to understand the product well enough that they can produce reports if requested?
Will you have enough personnel on the Healthstream team to make sure that tests are entered correctly with correct answers?
Will you have one or more Healthstream administrator, you should have more than one employee holding the keys to the kingdom so to speak.
