Pretty good, Hipchat accomplishes the point to have chat across teams. However it seems very similar to other products like Skype and Google Chat. It would be beneficial to have a one-password login in or compilation of all the different chat features. I like Hipchat over Slack - Hipchat has clearer lines/rooms of communication.

As explained previously, HipChat has an overwhelming number of integrations right out of the box with most of the services anyone is likely to be using. In the scenario where you cannot find what you need, their RESTful API allows developers of an organization to easily create their own customized integration.

The integrations work very well and in particular I like how you can set them up in such a way as to reduce noise. For example the Jira integration we use we only get notified when a job is opened and then when it is closed.

As a team, we work faster and with fewer needless interruptions thanks to HipChat. Sadly, it's rare that I can say that about a piece of software. Also, HipChat enables those of us in distributed locations to feel more like part of the centralized team. In short, HipChat improves our chances to collaborate.

We primarily use 'passive' chat ops. It's useful for building monitoring bots which post in rooms or to you personally when a build passes or fails. This is great so you don't have to watch a build yourself and everyone knows the status. I think you can have bots do more by automating simple things like command them to kick off a build but I have not used a bot like this before.
