HireVue has proven to be an invaluable tool in the recruitment process for a wide range of organizations. We have started using HireVue across our whole organization. We use it for a first step interview tool to screen our candidates. In my opinion, HireVue is very useful for our purpose.
  • Their customer care is attentive to our requests.
  • I like the video recording capability of the tool. By looking at the recorded video, we can better understand the attitudes of the candidates and how seriously they are considering the job.
  • It's not always easy to create a coding exercise because the tool's functionality is limited. For example, the coding exercise editor provided in the tool does not provide insertion of equations.
  • The automatic evaluation of the coding exercises use exact string match between the candidate's answer and the stored answer, including spaces. So if a stored answer is "2", but a candidate's code generates "2 " (a space after 2), it's counted as incorrect. This is not the right way of evaluating candidates' coding abilities.
I think the tool is well suited for the general interview process.

Our organization uses HireVue for all staff hiring across the company. We use the platform for all of our candidate first round interviews as well as for multi-person live interviews at the second stage of our candidate evaluation process. As a global company, this platform is great in that canddiates can record interviews on their own schedule and hiring managers can watch the interviews at their convenience within the time zones of their normal work day.
  • Aggregates videos of all first-round interviews so hiring managers can watch the interviews at their convenience
  • Interview questions are segmented so hiring managers can see how each candidate responded to a particular question without having to watch each interview all the way through.
  • The online inteview creates a bias-free platform for interviewing candidates as each candidate has exactly the same interviewing experience.
  • There are often delays in the multi-person interview experience so people are cutting each other off
  • The video of the multi-person interview is often distorted and hard to review becuase the experience is recorded with a delay and with people talking over each other.
  • If hiring for multiple positions, sometimes I find it hard to locate my open vacancies in the admin list of vacancies.
I works well for all of my hiring scenarios.

Each employer determines their own HireVue interview questions so that they get the most out of the software – after all, it wouldn't make sense for a potential marketing director to be answering questions more suited to technical interviews. The questions are completely customizable based on what position the company is hiring for, but it also means that every candidate gets asked the exact same interview questions. We love it: I like to prepare my candidates prior to answering the questions.

We have had HireVue for about a year, and just entered a multi-year contract. We use HireVue in our talent acquisition department, to replace the phone screen portion of our work flow on business as usual positions. We communicate with the candidate that HireVue is a condition of the application. While our recruiters do not use it regularly, we are encouraging them to use it more and more. We are a bit slow to change.
  • HireVue is easy to use with clear written directions for both candidates and hiring managers.
  • The customer service that we receive is second to none.
  • Training opportunities are endless.
  • Not a weakness of HireVue as a new technology; it has been slow to adopt on our end, and to work into our standard workflow.

HireVue is great for high volume positions, and business as usual. Additionally, the live interview feature is leaps and bounds ahead of Skype. It has allowed us to recruit nationally, and still save on travel costs.

We use HireVue across our organization for the majority of our field hires. Many of our field roles are remote and require presentation skills and abilities. HireVue helps gives us a glimpse of how candidates present, both in skill and professionalism.
  • Provides a customizable first or second step interview/screening, giving us additional input to consider in making a selection.
  • As a screening tool, HireVue saves time by allowing onr stage of screening to be done at the candidate's convenience without the need for scheduling.
  • HireVue provides a user-friendly interface, reducing complexity in a world of multiple systems.
  • While the interface seems user-friendly, a lot of candidates still struggle with using the tool correctly.
  • Many candidates still find themselves nervous to complete online interviews, reducing completion rate of HireVue invitations.
I would have to caution colleagues because hiring managers who don't have proper training or accountability could use HireVue interviews in a way that discriminates against certain people or groups. No more so than in-person interviews, but in industries where interviewing is done remotely, this could be a factor. In other words, I would recommend HireVue in all scenarios, but with a word of caution.

Hirevue is used by our entire talent acquisition department for the use of video interviews on candidates before face to face interviews take place.
  • Asks questions on the spot to candidates so you get true responses like in an in person interview.
  • Has a good length so you can get a true feel for a candidate.
  • Hard to send videos to managers that didn't do the video. Managers have to have an account to view the video.
  • Directions are somewhat complicated unless you attach a video explaining the process.
  • Does not give great pointers to the candidates before the video starts.
Manager and below roles are good to use this technology. Anything higher level would seem odd.

We are currently using HireVue to do our panel interviews with potential new hires. Our normal attendance is 3 employees and 1 interviewee. HireVue is the only tool that our company uses for technical interviews.

The problems that HireVue addresses for us are:

  • Multiple people on a single interview
  • Attaching the candidate's coding submission to the interview
  • Recording the interview for later review
  • Attaching any notes and/or recommendations made by the technical panel to the interview and 5) A white board that allows for live coding.
  • Displaying a standard set of questions for the interview panel to ask the candidate along with the ability to rate the candidate's response and make notes about their response.
  • Having a white board built into the application makes it much easier to have the candidate do some live coding and discuss their thought process without having to open a second application.
  • The ability to have the interview panel make their notes and potentially hiring decision from the app and save those notes to that one interview.
  • Attaching the candidate's submission materials, like coding sample and resume, to the interview.
  • Recording the interview for later playback with all candidate submission and panel notes attached.
  • I've experienced problems with HireVue just dropping in the middle of an interview and I've had to stop and restart the interview. I believe this reflects poorly on us and makes us look bad.
  • The white board is a very nice feature, but I'd also like the ability to share a screen (If this feature exists I haven't found it yet).
I find that the most useful feature is the ability to attach the candidate's files, coding sample, resume, etc., along with any answers to questions asked by the interview panel, panel member notes, and potentially a hiring decision to the recording for later review. The white board feature is also useful with its ability to select which language is being used.

Our company is currently using HireVue to simplify the hiring selection process for most locations HR supports. We are in the process of expanding use to all locations (90+) currently as well as expanding to the HireVue Insights solution. The feedback we receive from hiring managers is extremely positive as it gives them an opportunity to get an on-demand face to face with their candidates prior to inviting them to a formal interview.

In the education industry, cost will keep companies from being able to afford this type of service. However, because of the volume that most districts handle, it is a very useful tool as it will not just save an individual school's time by using the system as a first interview remotely but that interview can be shared across other locations, saving the candidate's time as well.

HireVue is available across our division, to any and all search committees for interviewing purposes only. It allows hiring departments to conduct a more detailed and professional "first" interview (live or on-demand). We do not use HireVue for any other purposes: job postings, requisitions, resumes, etc.

ActionLink uses HireVue for first round interviews mainly for electronics sales people and electronics merchandisers. ActionLink uses HireVue across the entire organization. It addresses the issue of being able to interview people anywhere in the country.
  • HireVue makes it easy to add new people who will collaborate in the hiring process.
  • HireVue integrates with our applicant tracking system.
  • HireVue makes it easy to organize multiple interview templates for a variety of jobs, and then create new interviews for positions as needed.
  • HireVue helps maintain consistency in our interview process.
  • HireVue scheduled reminders are a useful tool, but sometimes the text message or phone call feature fails due to the different ways people format phone numbers in their application. (ex. (555) 555-5555 vs. 5555555555) This is hard for us to control, because many of our applications come through job sites like CareerBuilder or Indeed and are automatically uploaded into our ATS. The reminder function needs to recognize more phone number formats.
  • Sometimes evaluators will miss reminder emails. Sometimes candidates miss the invitation email. HireVue should make it easier to resend links via email, without having to create a new interview, or re-add an evaluator.
  • The reminder feature is useful, but HireVue should make it easier to send on-demand reminders to a select individual or group in all formats (phone, text and email.) You should also be able to customize these one off messages for individuals.

  • Very easy to use! The candidate feedback has been largely positive. I hardly ever have to provide support to candidates.

Company wider usage. In the department I am in we are a significant segment of the overall users. Its helps the screening and selection (quality of hire) by helping us vet candidates early in the process better. Also helps reduce travel time and costs.

  • The HV system is lackluster as the shared service environment grows and we see the constraints in data management. Many of the recruiters are really not liking the tool……( I can put ½ the recruiters on a call and let them vent if you don’t believe me)- it’s a daily battle which has an effect on usage / adoption). It's struggling to perform in a shared service environment all OUTSIDE of the ATS- slow, unorganized, and the mountain of data is unusable outside of success-factors. Not to mention other vendors in the space are cheaper and offer more functionality which could be a long term risk.
The tool is better as an individual tool rather than an enterprise ecosystem in my view. Collaboration is anemic and won't work in the tool at an impactful level. It's better in my view for independent parties who don't have to work with other teams / people /time zones / systems.

We use it for high volume repeatable roles that require skill sets such as customer service.
  • HireVue makes it very easy to send out Digital Interviews that candidates can take on their own schedule - 24/7.
  • HireVue makes it easy to report off you who you send Digital Interviews to, and if they took the interview or not.
  • HireVue makes it easy to automatically send out reminders via email or phone to candidates that have been sent the Digitial Interview but have yet to take it.
  • Hirevue should work on the marketing of their product to candidates so people are aware that this is a normal process for companies now - to do Digital Interviews.
Very well suited for high volume recruiting and works well in shared services environment.

We've rolled out HireVue in the US (across all departments) and are currently running a pilot in select EMEA departments and locations. HireVue addresses a few key problems: It offers the convenience for candidates to complete a video interview and hiring managers to review video interviews at a time of their choosing. We all have tight schedules, and this on-demand functionality drives down net turnaround time for our screening process. The video interviewing functionality also offers the candidate the ability to bring life to their resume and express the way an organization can expect for them to show up. Similarly, the hiring manager has additional insight to a candidate's engagement level and communication style.
  • From an employer/implementation perspective, the HireVue team partner well to ensure your success and push boundaries on-going in terms of continued innovation and ways we can leverage HireVue exteranlly and within the organization.
  • Positive user experience. Set up is such that even users who are not entirely comfortable with technology have the ability to test and get comfortable with the UI/UX before beginning their interview.
  • Platform provides increased objectivity for decision makers by allowing them to review candidate responses to the same question side by side .
  • In terms of metrics and reporting for the employer, the current structure requires users to rate a candidate before the system recognizes an interview as being reviewed. Therefore, if a hiring manager provides feedback outside of the system, it skews our metrics substantially. This is more of an internal issue than it is a weakness of HireVue, but it would be nice to be able to pull this metric based on whether an interview was viewed (vs rated).

HireVue is being used by our sales department for hiring new talent.
  • Fast. Saves time. You can immediately reject or accept prospects.
  • Efficient. You do the reviews when you have time.
  • Personal. You have video in front of you. Tells much more then a CV ever will.
  • Compartmentalizing is not efficient.
  • UI could be more interesting. Changing the login screen is a hassle and can not be done by the user.
  • Sound and picture testing algorithm should be more efficient.
For us both personal and professional questions worked as well.

We use HireVue to interview potential candidates and since our company is spread across the country, we save on travel expenses and time for candidates and our staff.
  • It is extremely easy to set up.
  • It is extremely easy to participate in an interview - we have not had any connectivity issues.
  • Easy to maneuver in the system to get the results.
  • The only complaint I would have is that the training wasn't the greatest.
We use HireVue for live interviews at the current time.

We are implementing HireVue here in the Human Resources department. Recruiters will be using it along with our hiring managers. It helps us to address interviewing non local candidates before paying for flights to meet them in person. It also helps us to set up some pre-screen questions to better qualify applicants. I also used HireVue while working at Incepture (a former subsidiary of Florida Blue) and we most often used the live interview option. It was a great tool for us to quickly get some face-to-face time with candidates for a final round HR interview after the hiring managers had already done technical phone screens.

HireVue is well suited for an interview step before bringing candidates in for a face-to-face. It is also well suited for candidates who are not local to the job; or for remote positions or hiring for other locations of the company and you want to reduce the cost of traveling for an interview. We have used it for all types of key questions - technical to behavioral type questions.

We use HireVue as a recruiting tool across our entire organization. It cuts down our recruiting process time, and also makes the recruiting process more uniform throughout our company.

  • Overall I don't have any complaints - but the only thing that would be nice is the ability to customize the emails from the system. Right now, we have to send the candidate an email alerting them that we use HireVue and how it works before sending the invite. It would be nice to have that in the system.
I think HireVue is best suited to mid or large sized companies, I'm not sure the investment is worth is for smaller companies who aren't doing as much hiring.
