We started using HIreVue in the sales department to ensure that we are hiring the right candidates for the position and our company. Additionally, we are using the Accelerate platform to conduct sales role playing. The sales team is sharpening their message and we are instituting peer feedback.
We are looking to expand the use of HireVue into the development team with the CodeVue platform within the next few months.
The 2 business problems we were looking to solve were:

  1. Hire the best sales professional in a short amount of time
  2. Institute sales role playing to drive a consistent message to the market
  • The Hirevue setup was really easy and we did it in record time. We needed a solution quick and the Hirevue team got us up and running in under 1 week. We started with the standard landing page and email template but we live very quickly.
  • The user experience from our side as well as the candidate side was well received. This is important because we are a startup company and have to be agile and so do our candidates.
  • The Hirevue mobile app was easy to use and allowed me to take interviews on my vacation (on the beach) without sucking up a ton of time. I was able to do 4 or 5 interviews over 2 days while on vacation!
  • None at this time
The HireVue platform can be used by every size organization. Make sure that if you are big into corporate branding you spend enough time designing the right candidate experience!

We use HireVue high in the selection funnel as a screening tool. We initially struggled to effectively use HireVue to inform our decision making process. That all changed when I started to record myself asking the candidate the questions versus using just text on the screen for questions. I love having fun with recording the question, I joke around and "interact" with the candidate in a way that would be similar to an in person interview. I have found that this creates a more genuine experience for the candidate and gives us a better interview from the candidate which in turn helps to better inform our decisions. It has been my experience that when a candidate does good with their digital interview they generally do well in their in person interview and have then become good hires with the ability to become productive quickly. I believe that HireVue creates a positive candidate experience that also helps to increase recruiter productivity and reduces time to fill.
  • HireVue allows recruiters and hiring managers to give time to other areas of responsibility because they are not spending additional time on the phone screening multiple candidates. They can also discontinue watching a digital interview if they feel the candidate is not a good fit. It is not so easy to end a phone call or an in person interview.
  • HireVue gives the candidate a way to make a more compelling presentation of their experiences and what they bring to the position than a traditional phone screen would.
  • HireVue allows for collaboration between multiple departments and hiring managers without having to schedule multiple phone screens. We have had candidates complete a digital interview for one position but after viewing it felt they may fit better in another role. Rather than having to schedule another interview we simply assign the interview to the hiring manager from the other department.
  • HireVue is an excellent way for companies to distinguish themselves from other employers. The landing page has great corporate branding that can give insight to corporate values and culture. Additionally in an age that is becoming increasingly digital, a company that uses HireVue can show candidates that they are innovators and ahead of the curve. This works especially well with millennial candidates.
  • I have found it difficult to contact HireVue for customer support. I had sent several requests that were not answered and when I finally did get someone I did not feel that they were able to help me.
I find using HireVue for entry level to director level is appropriate. Once you get to the executive level I find it less valuable. So for us that means that over 90% of our positions are utilizing HireVue in the initial screening process. The platform is incredibly versatile and robust so I am still learning how to truly maximize its abilities.

My company used this to pre-screen people that we would like to have a face-to-face interview with. It is a great way to help narrow down the talent pool and hear what the person has to say about themselves and why they are interested in working with my company. For example, I had one day to interview job candidates in another city that I had already prescreened over the phone. I used HireVue to help narrow down how many face-to-face interviews we scheduled. This directly benefited both me and the senior manager that was the final decision-maker for the face-to-face interviews.

Finally, it makes it personal when you can finally put a name with a face and welcome them to the face-to-face interview.
  • You can rate the candidates/videos right away and add comments.
  • You get notifications as soon as a candidate has completed an online interview.
  • You can have managers quickly review someone's video to gain buy in to the hiring process.
  • Sometimes, candidates get really nervous when they answer a question. It would be nice if they could do a "do-over" for 2 times in the video. I know it is best to get their first reaction, candid in the moment, but I even need the chance to re-record.
  • The live online interviews with the call-in line didn't work well. It is much easier to just do it over skype.
  • It would be nice if my company would have integrated with the applicant tracking system so the person could just do it as they apply by answering 4 short questions. [This would allow for] a more automated process, so I don't have to go and add them to the HireVue website myself.

We used HireVue to screen and interview potential candidates for both corporate and field positions. We conducted in depth face-to-face interviews as well as brief on demand interviews. The Recruiting Department as a whole used HireVue to recruit for positions throughout the entire company. Each new hire, corporate and field, was required to complete a HireVue interview which allowed our hiring managers and CEO to review them. This really helped to create a cohesive interview process that kept necessary leaders involved. HireVue helped us to save time and more thoroughly screen successful candidates by virtually putting a face to a name.

HireVue is a WONDERFUL tool for high-volume recruiting teams looking to streamline their hiring process and add a more personal approach. My favorite feature was being able to share the interview with hiring managers. This kept them heavily involved in the process without taking up too much of their time. I would definitely recommend this product.

I consult with clients who are considering digital interviewing solutions. HireVue is high on the list of vendors in the marketplace today that meet most of my global, complex organizations' requirements. HireVue helps these clients on many levels. HireVue helps with the candidate experience. Candidates value their ability to sell themselves beyond just a paper resume. They are impressed with the technology and it positively positions HireVue customers as a cutting edge company that seeks technology advancements to better meet the needs of their candidates. From the company's perspective, it helps address many business problems. First, it allows Recruiters to better assess candidates. Second, it allows Recruiters and Hiring Managers to share candidate's digital interviews across departments which saves time, money and duplication of efforts for Recruiters, HIring Managers and Candidates. Third, HireVue has a robust branding functionality throughout the digital interviewing experience which highlights the company brand to candidates. Companies can also leverage HireVue for other non-interview purposes like vendor interviews, etc.
  • Ease of navigation - HIreVue has an easy to use interface that makes it easy to jump into the tool and begin using it right away.
  • Multi-use - Recruiters can leverage HireVue for an impromptu and immediate face to face digital interview. Recruiters can utilize it for a panel interview. Recruiters can post their jobs with a link for potential applicants to click on which allows them respond to a few questions at a time that's convenient for them vs. having to manage all the logistics of an in-person interview. Saves valuable time and money and allows Recruiters & Hiring Managers to be more efficient with their time.
  • Branding - Employers can add their branding videos as well as look and feel/logos , etc to make it feel like it's the company's product vs. a 3rd party product. The branding capabilities are really impressive and can only help boost the employer's branding in a very competitive marketplace.
  • The branding could be even better to rival Montage, but it's still very competitive.
  • HireVue needs to focus more on what their current customers need vs. always chasing the next bell or whistle. This will help with customer engagement, adoption and year over year keep coming back.
  • Employers are in desperate need of interview scheduling technology that is easy and integrated with Outlook and other email systems so it's an all-in-one interviewing system. HireVue is making strides in this area, but more work is needed here to share what the recent releases offer and future development opportunities
