On an everyday basis, we use Hive to track and manage our projects and our ongoing work for clients. I think that the primary challenge that Hive solves for us is time tracking and making sure we accurately know the stages that our projects are in. This allows us to plan ahead appropriately and to make better decisions for allocating work and knowing the workload of our team members at any given moment.
  • Time tracking.
  • Project flow tracking.
  • Information integration.
Cons
  • The Hive chat.
  • Billing transparency.
  • Ticket and Software adjustments including the Hive App.
I would say the best area where Hive can and should be implemented is in the time and project tracking systems. What I would not use Hive for is invoice tracking or financial information as pertains to the business. Also, using Hive in replacement for an external messaging system similar to Slack is not advisable. The app and the messenger feature are just not there yet.

I'm just a bee working for the Hive

Hive is used by my team as our project management software. We build e-learning courses that rely on a lot of cross-collaboration, so Hive helps everyone keep their tasks straight.
  • Organizing tasks and subtasks.
  • Creating cards is simple.
  • Organizing projects by folder is helpful.
Cons
  • Organizing tasks by assignees could be better. It's a little cumbersome to check off each person you want. Can you group these?
  • I don't really use any view besides task view. Is there something better I could be using?
  • It would be nice if attachments showed up in a nicer format, maybe with a preview?
I love that my tasks are ordered so that I know one thing depends on another. Like, I am not going to start this task until this other one is done, and Hive lets me know about that.
Sometimes the fact that a task and its subtasks are all over the place on a status view makes my head hurt. It could be a fault of our own organization, but sometimes it's hard to keep track of what is where.

Hive is used for managing projects provided by several clients. It helps manage projects in the right stages. Assigning various stages to the team has become easier using Hive. Hive let me manage projects and make the milestones delivery to client success. It has created a smooth process of delivering tasks on time from the team side. Has been greatly helpful.
  • Projects Management.
  • Helps with managing projects well.
  • Team synchronization.
  • Team is sync'd on various stages of the projects.
  • Milestones management.
Cons
  • Maybe provide more integrations with HubSpot and other CRMs.
Hive is great for managing projects with your team. Assigning tasks is simple enough using Hive. It helps manage team goals for the projects. We are able to create reports (via the dashboard) for the progress and updates to provide to the team based on completed stages. Works great for bigger projects.

We were using Hive for our project management as it is a great project management tool. These are the following use cases Hive solved for us
  • Task tracking: Hive allowed out users to create and track tasks, assign them to team members, and set deadlines.
  • Collaboration: Hive includes tools for team communication and collaboration, including a team chat feature, the ability to share files and documents, and the ability to leave comments and feedback on tasks.
  • Project planning: Hive offers tools for project planning, including the ability to create and track project timelines, create and assign tasks, and manage resources.
  • Integration: Hive can be integrated with a variety of other tools and services, such as Google Calendar, Slack, and Trello, to allow teams to work seamlessly across different platforms.
  • Data warehousing: Hive is often used as a data warehousing platform, allowing users to store and analyze large amounts of structured and semi-structured data. It is especially good at handling data that is too large to be stored and analyzed on a single machine, and supports a wide variety of data formats.
  • Batch processing: Hive is designed for batch processing of large datasets, making it well-suited for tasks such as data ETL (extract, transform, load), data cleansing, and data aggregation.
  • Data transformation: Hive allows users to perform data transformations and manipulations using custom scripts written in Java, Python, or other programming languages. This can be useful for tasks such as data cleansing, data aggregation, and data transformation.
  • Integration with other tools: Hive integrates with a wide variety of other tools and services in the Hadoop ecosystem, such as Pig, Spark, and HBase, allowing users to perform a wide range of data analysis and management tasks.
Cons
  • Real-time queries: Hive is a batch-oriented system, which means that it is designed to process large amounts of data in a batch mode rather than in real-time. While it is possible to use Hive for real-time queries, it may not be the most efficient choice for this type of workload.
  • Complex queries: Hive is optimised for simple queries on large datasets, but may struggle with more complex queries or queries that require multiple joins or subqueries.
  • Data management: While Hive supports a wide variety of data formats and storage options, it may not offer as many advanced data management features as some other tools, such as data partitioning and indexing.
Hive is a powerful tool for data analysis and management that is well-suited for a wide range of scenarios. Here are some specific examples of scenarios where Hive might be particularly well-suited:

Data warehousing: Hive is often used as a data warehousing platform, allowing users to store and analyze large amounts of structured and semi-structured data. It is especially good at handling data that is too large to be stored and analyzed on a single machine, and supports a wide variety of data formats.

Batch processing: Hive is designed for batch processing of large datasets, making it well-suited for tasks such as data ETL (extract, transform, load), data cleansing, and data aggregation.Simple queries on large datasets: Hive is optimized for simple queries on large datasets, making it a good choice for tasks such as data exploration and summary statistics.

Data transformation: Hive allows users to perform data transformations and manipulations using custom scripts written in Java, Python, or other programming languages. This can be useful for tasks such as data cleansing, data aggregation, and data transformation.

On the other hand, here are some specific examples of scenarios where Hive might be less appropriate:

Real-time queries: Hive is a batch-oriented system, which means that it is designed to process large amounts of data in a batch mode rather than in real-time. While it is possible to use Hive for real-time queries, it may not be the most efficient choice for this type of workload.

Complex queries: Hive is optimized for simple queries on large datasets, but may struggle with more complex queries or queries that require multiple joins or subqueries.Very large datasets: While Hive is designed to scale horizontally and can handle large amounts of data, it may not scale as well as some other tools for very large datasets or complex workloads.

The analytics team, globally, started collaborating more often during the pandemic. This led to more cross-border projects where teams across time zones and skill sets were working on several different aspects of one product. Hive was considered as the solution to help us better project-manage for analytics product development. Its superior collaborative and task organization capabilities played key role in this consideration.
  • Product vision
  • Simplified communication
  • Better integration capabilities with existing tools and services
  • Automations
Cons
  • Mobile app support
  • Scalability
  • Competitive pricing
Hive has better road mapping for a product development team that works in unison across different locations. It's easy to keep track of tasks or if someone needs a hand. Through its simplified communication workflow, it's easier to anticipate any roadblocks in the overall project. This service has scope to improve the mobile application support as working with Hive from a mobile device is less than a pleasant experience.
