Altair Hyperworks is a powerful software that has been extensively used for a wide range of engineering problems. Users and reviewers have found it to be highly beneficial for their businesses, allowing them to solve complex problems with ease. One of the key use cases of Altair Hyperworks is in the aerospace industry, where it has been utilized to create detailed finite element models for linear static and explicit dynamic analysis. Additionally, Altair Hyperworks is commonly employed in structural, thermal, electro-magnetic, multi-body dynamics, and NVH analysis.

In the mechanical engineering field, Altair Hyperworks has proven to be invaluable for various applications such as tool design, project analysis, and component analysis. It has also been extensively used in crash analysis, stress analysis, and static analysis across different industries including transportation and rolling stock. Another notable use case of Altair Hyperworks is its application in thermal analysis of boilers, pressure vessels, and engine components.

With Altair Hyperworks, users have found that building and solving complex linear and non-linear models becomes much easier compared to other software options. The software offers features like analytics and design feedback that are highly useful for engineers. Additionally, Altair Hyperworks enables cost reduction by allowing users to simulate models virtually infinite times.

However, some reviewers have mentioned that the support for Altair Hyperworks could be improved. Despite this feedback, the overall user experiences highlight the significant benefits of using Altair Hyperworks for a wide range of engineering analyses and simulations.

Intuitive and User-Friendly Interface: Several users have praised the highly intuitive and user-friendly interface of altair hyperworks. They have found the layout and icons to enhance their navigation experience, making it easy to understand and use.

Comprehensive Software for CAE Calculations: Many reviewers consider altair hyperworks to be a comprehensive software for CAE calculations. They appreciate the extensive modules available for analysis and simulation, which cater to both beginners and experienced users.

Versatile Meshing Tool: The meshing tool in altair hyperworks, specifically HyperMesh, has been widely appreciated by users. It is regarded as one of the best in the industry for FEA meshing, with capabilities for solid and surface geometrical regulations. Users also value its versatility in customizing meshing and creating simulations for static and dynamic design.

Compatibility Issues: Some users have reported compatibility issues with newer versions of the software, stating that some old features do not work or are unavailable on the main interface, requiring users to search in newer versions. This issue has been mentioned by multiple reviewers.

Expensive Cost: Altair Hyperworks is considered more expensive than other CAE software options, according to some users who have mentioned the higher price as a drawback.

Steep Learning Curve: Several users have found Altair Hyperworks difficult to learn, especially when using control cards for complex scenarios in deck setup. This has been described as a steep learning curve by those reviewers.

Users have provided several recommendations for HyperWorks based on their experiences. The most common recommendations include enhancing the user experience by making the platform easier to use, particularly for new users. They suggest providing better help and tutorials to assist users in getting started with the platform.

Users also recommend enhancing support and resources, acknowledging the value of multiple online support forums available for troubleshooting temporary issues. However, they suggest expanding these resources and improving the documentation to further aid users in their analysis tasks.

Additionally, users advise potential users to evaluate the trial version of HyperWorks before making a decision. This allows them to assess the platform's capabilities and suitability for their specific needs.

Overall, users believe that HyperWorks is a valuable tool for improving meshing skills, generating quality FE models, and performing basic analyses with good correlation to actual values. They acknowledge its versatility across various analysis tasks but emphasize the need for better usability, support, and comprehensive trial evaluation.

Our company provides mechanical engineering and product development services for a variety of industries. We use HyperWorks as our primary analysis and optimization tool, most notable for our FEA and CFD analysis needs. The suite of software addresses nearly all of our simulation requirements and it's nice to have all the necessary tools in one package.
  • All-inclusive software suite
  • Wide breadth of capabilities and custom scripting
  • Highly efficient and scalable solvers/computation
  • User interface is improving, but not always intuitive; varies across tools
  • Steep learning curve
  • Cost may be out of reach for some, but relatively inexpensive if you need all the tools it includes (vs. paying for each tool individually)
Engineering firms and companies with needs for multiple disciplines of analysis capabilities on a regular basis will benefit from HyperWorks. Companies with short term engineering needs (less than 6 months) or who only need a particular analysis/simulation discipline may be better off using a consultant (who likely uses HyperWorks).
  • Broad range of applications
  • Powerful and efficient solvers
  • Highly capable solutions with more versatility than competitors
  • Powerful optimization schemes
  • An all in one solution keeps costs down if you need multiple analysis capabilities (FEA, CFD, MBD, etc.)
  • Analysis work supports our other engineering/design work we wouldn't otherwise receive
  • Fast and efficient solvers leads to higher throughput
HyperWorks is far more capable than SOLIDWORKS Simulation offering more simulation solutions for more accurate analysis. The solvers are also more efficient so you get results faster and reduce time to market.
