All those IBM system are easy on deployment period and their functionalities are excellent and easy on big data handling and storage of various project data on Cloud service. In my whole experience, I have been using IBM products, be it servers/technology software on both on-prem and cloud. I could hardly recall any major issues or fallouts using these products. The infrastructure and support have been a backbone for all of the client applications to date providing availability and the ability to accommodate growth.

Being able to have the same services on the same vendor allows for a smoother integration and some cost efficiencies. However this adds some risk with DR and emergency planning.

  • IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions
We do not see any significant impact of using multiple portfolio products together. However, it is preferred to use products from the same vendor as it reduces administrative overhead.

We utilize virtual servers for our web hosting and development environments but we use Bare Metal Servers for our production database server. It is great for a start-up looking to lease equipment that can scale as they grow. Well suited for training models for data science with a dedicated server. We don't have to worry about racking up hourly costs, which would be costlier than Bare Metal. We utilize IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers to run custom Ubuntu servers. It has a very high reliability

The Bare Metal servers provide just one layer of our stack. On our private subnet, we have a complement of virtual servers, file storage, block storage, object storage, load balancers, and so on. IBM Cloud provides us with all of the pieces we need to deploy a full software stack.

Since most of the software and hardware used by us is provided by IBM, we are highly reliant on IBM. IBM products integrate with other IBM products very well as they belong to the same ecosystem.

There are clear advantages and risks when using multiple products with a single vendor. Some advantages are:
  • Speed and cost of data object storage between Bare Metal vs external suck as S3
  • Single management portal
  • Single key/token via SDK for API or management
  • Familiar experience
