IBM Cloud File Storage is a very useful service when you need to have shared storage between multiple instances and/or services. In our specific case, the services behind the load balancer could all read write and edit files on the storage. Moreover, the services could be added and deleted and still access the storage. IBM Cloud File Storage is the perfect product to resolve this problem, because it works well and considering that is NFS compatible is also easy to integrate also using common libraries.
  • Is NFS compatible so easy to integrate
  • Snapshot support, replication and encryption for the highest data security standard
  • Up to 12 TB of shared storage
  • The possibility to create a snapshot and move on another data center on another app
  • The limits in operations linked to the capacity is a bit complicated
  • Would be nice to have a mechanism that automatically increase IOPS when required
IBM Cloud File Storage is always a good choice for enterprise companies, and this service is also perfect for companies with needs of high security standards and High avaliability. Is possible to use IBM Cloud File Storage with many standard softwares, because compatible with NFS and the possibility to create snapshots and move to another data center so is possible to create workflow respecting also GDPR. The Maximum storage size with the maximum IPS is 12 TB, is possible to expand to 24 TB that is still not enough for big data or data lake usages and, however would not be with the highest performance. For some usages and business the price of this service may be relatively high.

We are already using the IBM on-premises storage solution for our critical applications. We had the requirement of storing temporary cache files for the applications on the cloud. Since IBM Cloud [File] Storage can be easily integrated with our existing storage and infrastructure, it helped us to save time for deployment and configuration.
  • Shared file storage.
  • Easy and simple deployment.
  • Reliable and secure storage service for cloud.
  • User interface to setup and manage the cloud storage service is good.
  • Fast and high speed cloud storage.
  • We have sometimes experienced some outages and hope IBM will fix this soon.
  • Initial trainings are required for the teams to work and do the setup.
  • Support documentation from IBM needs improvement with [the] inclusion of more detailed steps and video tutorials for [a] better understanding of the engineers.
  • The billing process is very complex and you may have to incur additional overhead. Need a simpler approach and clarity on this aspect.
  • Support response from the IBM team is very slow and lacks information.
IBM Cloud [File] Storage is well suited for business use cases where you already have IBM infrastructure in place. The integration is seamless and will save you a lot of time for routing data. Overall it's a good storage service but we have experienced some outages.

The IBM File Storage infrastructure is used in a POC that we are currently performing. It requires a high speed, high availability, and scalable storage infrastructure. IBM Cloud File does exactly that. It has a great balance of performance versus cost, thus being a great contender for a POC like ours.
  • High availability
  • Scalable
  • Speed can be improved.
  • UI has scope for improvement.
If you are working with other components of IBM cloud infrastructure then this would help in integrating those components. If all the components belong to the same platform then the integration performs very well and IBM cloud infrastructure works very well. On top of that, you don't have to worry about data loss because of features such as rest encryption, volume duplication, and snapshots and replication.

We use IBM Cloud Storage to store static files like images. We also have a dedicated server within IBM to host dynamic content. That helps to serve static content more effectively, scale, and have backups.
  • Reliable
  • Fast
  • High quality technical support
  • It is relatively expensive.
  • It is connected to other IBM services. I think it should be a separate entity.
  • It lacks functionality compared to competitors like Amazon S3.
IBM Cloud File Storage is typically well suited for hosting static content and for backups. It is less appropriate in scenarios of hosting some dynamic content like HTML and script files. It is also less suited for hosting documents or other private information.

We are using virtual desktops for client support and we use IBM Cloud File Storage in almost all the processes of storing disk images, user data, backups, etc.
  • Easy to configure and access
  • Secure and stable storage
  • High speed and demand LUNs
  • Sometimes customer service is helpless [from my experience].
  • [I feel] the interface to manage the NFS share is not user-friendly.
[IBM Cloud File Storage] has allowed us to deploy more users at this stage. It is useful to store our main images and user data in a secure way. It has also increased our flexibility, etc. We have multiple servers across multiple availability regions, but IBM Cloud File Storage does not support mounting it across multiple availability zones. Therefore, [IBM Cloud File Storage] is not helpful in this scenario.

IBM Cloud File Storage is being used in our organization as an online file storage service enabling us to store our huge repository of useful files and share the same files safely as per need. It gives huge storage capacity at a very reasonable cost. The data transfer speed is very fast. It is easy to deploy with a simply great-looking user interface to give us a great user experience. It enabled us to use it for the centralization of file storage. The backups are encrypted and available across all of their data centers.
  • Centralized File Storage System.
  • Huge Storage Capacity.
  • Easier in deployment.
  • Simply great user interface.
  • High speed data transfer.
  • Encrypted backups.
  • Integration with other platform is well supported.
  • Documentation is not much updated.
  • Support seeks improvement on priority.
  • Know-how of Linux is somehow necessary.
I suggest[ed to] my colleagues to prefer IBM Cloud File Storage as an online file storage service to store the files and NoSQL data over [the] cloud. It is providing massive storage capacity at an affordable cost with ultra fast data transfer speed. It can be deployed easily. The simply, great looking user interface provides an ultimate user experience. The centralization of file storage enables sharing of files. The backups are safe being encrypted and centrally available from all data centers.

We moved from on-premises to fully in the cloud a few years back. Currently, all of our compute and data are in the cloud. We require multiple types of storage solutions as our data range from operational data warehouses to long-term cold storage. We do have very specific use cases that require NFS file storage and IBM Cloud File Storage is exactly what we needed for our data in the cloud.
  • Snapshots and replication for failover and continuity
  • Expandable volumes
  • Performance provisioning for custom requirements
  • Their API is useful but can be improved.
  • Pricing
If you need the lowest possible latency for unstructured data, NFS will always win out over something like block storage. IBM Cloud File Storage is the right solution for a use case needing high performant reads from a centralized solution being used by more than one VM. If your data is stored in IBM Cloud and your use case fits this, IBM Cloud File Storage is the right choice. If performance is not an issue, I would opt for block storage.

It is not directly used within our organization by employees but we use it for our apps. We use it for users to store images and documents in our app. We are working on corporate governance, where users can vote on agendas or proposals, store agreements, and governance policies. Users can upload pictures, organization documents, attachments, legal agreements, etc.
  • Cost effective
  • Fast speed
  • Good looking UI/UX
  • Reliable
  • Bad IBM support.
  • No guides available or really old/expired documentation to get started.
  • Billing and usage is confusing.
It is well suited if you are already aware of how to use cloud file storage systems, but if you are new to it, IBM is not a very beginner-friendly platform to get started. I had many troubles getting started. I felt other cloud providers had better documentation and tutorials to get started.

We use IBM Cloud File Storage as a primary storage option in conjunction with Kubernetes in a cloud environment.
  • We use it in conjunction with our API and audit service to provide snapshots of data and API records.
  • It scales up and down automatically.
  • Great price, pay only when you use it.
  • Provides data encryption at rest, which is important for HIPAA.
  • For certain functions, you will want different storage, whether it is elastic, NoSQL, or highly structured.
  • For certain services in a microservice environment, you might want a customized data storage structure.
It's great as a base storage option and works well with containerized applications, which most people use nowadays.

We are a virtual desktops company and we use IBM Cloud File Storage in all the process: to store disk images, to store user data, backups, etc.
Cloud storage is key to us, being a very flexible platform we can and certainly do deploy wherever we're closer to our users but the backups and data are priceless.

  • Secure, stable storage
  • High speed, high demand LUNs
  • Ease of config and access
  • Sometimes support is a little unhelpful.
  • It'd be interesting to see year based models with ease of increment.
  • There should be more help towards picking storage.
If you're thinking about deploying a cloud scenario with a lot of users in which performance is a must and stability is very much required you can go with IBM Cloud File Storage. Personally I had some problems with a LUN that didn't connect even though I authorized it and in that sense support could get better.

We use IBM Cloud File Storage [in] our training department. It allows us space to store operating system images when we build our classroom lab environments. It also allows us to have scratch space to store files.
  • Simple file system sharing
  • Lots of storage space (up to 12 TB)
  • Choice of performance (up to 10 IOPS/GB)
  • Simple interface to order more storage
  • Quick interface to allow more servers to share the file store
  • Security - only allows access from specified server(s)
  • The interface to manage the NFS share is not as easy as I'd like it to be
[IBM Cloud File Storage is well suited for] NFS storage and file sharing. For object storage, their IBM Cloud Object Storage is much better price.

Multiple departments used IBM Cloud File Storage to sync documents, training material, and sales presentations. It was fast and easy to access from all areas within the business. The amount of storage was also wonderful as we could upload GBs of video training content.
  • Optimize speed for fast file access
  • Easy to integrate and access through Windows/Mac workstations
  • Better disaster recovery options
  • Ability to set up multiple RAIDs within arrays across different networks
Well Suited:
A business wanting to take a lot of important/critical content and host it in the cloud for all areas of a business to collaborate and share files with. This could be from a small business for simple backups or enterprise for multiple departments. I highly recommend this solution for those needing to upload video content as we did.
