There are instances where there may be hidden corrupt issues in a users machine. With the virtual workaround we can help to identify the issue by isolating the item. This allows the user to continue working while doing the testing and review process.
  • The speed is very quick allowing the elimination of issues not associated with te problem
  • Mirroring the users work but not interrupting what needs to be done allows for better efficiencies.
  • The saving of the data quickly and efficiently allows the user and the tester to revisit the data for any updates or changes.
  • I would like to a side by side screen potential in order to view the progress.
  • A timer or update scale showing where we are in the review.
  • I am always on the front end of the assistance so a review of the update concerning the back end would be helpful for future use.
It is great for backend support when running into difficulties with data, processing rules, and updating commands. When these do not function properly a run on a virtual server can help identfy the issue quickly and hopefully apply a fix.

We use it on a regular basis whenever we have the need to open up our servers to the public for yearly registrations / enrollments which happen on a yearly basis for a couple of months.
  • High Availability.
  • Ease of moving apps to cloud and back.
  • Easy provisioning based on load.
  • Repositioning is very fast and sometimes you don’t have to restart either
  • We need some facility to restore from a previous years backup.
  • India based support.
  • Billing with Indian local condition and Tax structure.
  • Should be provided with some preconfigured images for common use cases
Always suited for our Web Servers, where moving to Cloud to meet demands and get back to our standard in house servers when demand is reduced.
At times we feel this VPC setup is the most cost effective for us for upscaling our processes, on the other hand we find that if we down scale then the cost is somewhat higher when compared to the prevailing market rates

Reliable with simple APIs

IBM Cloud Virtual Servers are being used as a pilot project to extend our data center used by researchers. In other words, extra jobs that cannot be fulfilled by our data center will be offloaded to IBM VSI. Currently it is being used by one department but it will be used by the entire university once the solution is stable and goes into production.
  • Fast to spawn
  • Easy to configure using SoftLayer APIs
  • Many flavors available
  • Relatively cheap, especially for the transient instances
  • The IBM Cloud Web UI is very slow and not responsive
  • It would be nice to provide a direct way to choose a template image when creating a VSI
  • It would be nice if transient VSIs can be resized (CPU and Mem)
The API for creating and destroying IBM VSIs is very simple compared to AWS APIs, for example. It required less configuration and it is easy to get the VSI to communicate with one another. IBM VSIs are well suited for situations where you need to control them programmatically using the SoftLayer APIs and create a cluster of nodes that communicate together with minimum configuration.

This is our main server that our company uses to provide services to our libraries. It is being used as a website, email server, database, and mobile app server. The email serving part is unique to cloud servers. Most other major cloud providers (Google, AWS) don't allow creating email servers on their virtual servers. This is a key issue for us since we send email to library patrons to help them keep track their library circulations.
  • An email server is allowed, and in particular, on port 25.
  • Able to create a backup server and power it off until needed.
  • Reasonably priced compared to the other major cloud services.
  • Has lots of different locations to choose from around the world.
  • Don't know if this is possible, but I'd like to make a snapshot of my current server for backup purposes. Unfortunately a snapshot takes too long (too many hours), and our server can't be off for more than a few hours at a time.
  • Not be charged if the server is turned off. Other companies (e.g. Microsoft Azure) does not charge if server if not actually on. I do realize that IBM only charges 25% of the normal fee but I think that’s still too high.
It's well suited as an email server to subscribed users. I can't think of a scenario that I wouldn't recommend an IBM virtual server. It's quick to create, reasonably priced and offers good support.

We use IBM Cloud Virtual Servers to host different web-based systems. It is used across the whole organization and we deploy solutions for customers/third parties on it. We mostly use virtual servers and also utilize some of the IBM Watson services.
  • API for creating/managing services
  • Datacenter location variety
  • Risk of total virtual server loss due to failures
IBM Cloud Virtual Servers is well suited for deployment of public-facing systems that may need to scale/increase capacity at any point in time.

We mainly rely on IBM Cloud Virtual Services as a webs server and DNS for our client's websites, as well as our own, main company website. We also rely heavily on the Virtual Server for testing new features and finding bugs before deployment.
  • Manageable control of individual servers and DNS settings
  • Creating different profiles or identities so users can work on separate projects
  • The IBM Cost Calculator is a nice feature that shows the people at IBM have tried hard to think of extra features that B2B customers could benefit from
  • Developer-friendly infrastructure
  • We have not had a great experience with support. Other devs will know that it can be very nerve-racking to have clients bombarding you because of an issue that you need support's help to fix.
  • Documentation could definitely be helped. Maybe a better onboarding guide?
  • Dashboard is a bit slow and clunky
It's great for testing new projects and features and ensuring that the finished product (prior to deployment, of course!) is smooth, ready to go, and free of bugs. I also appreciate that you can set up different identities because it allows our users to log in and out as different people when necessary, for testing purposes. We appreciate the developer-friendly infrastructure as well.

IBM Cloud Virtual Servers are being used by me as a freelance developer hosting personal projects as well as clients. It solves my hosting situation. When you are a developer, like myself, it's easy to create a hosting environment and have it ready to deploy when needed.
  • Fast hosting solutions
  • Cost efficient
  • Easy setup
  • Flexibility
  • Customer Support
  • Recommended upgrades based on usage
  • Faster upgrade options for Ubuntu - usually takes a while before the new versions are available to upgrade to
I have no complaints on my experience over the course of using IBM Cloud Virtual Servers. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for hosting solutions. I have tried other services like AWS and felt that was overwhelming compared to IBM. For WordPress users hosting several sites, this is a great solution. Being a developer, I am constantly working on projects, and being able to set up servers quickly and easily with IBM Cloud Virtual Servers is great.

We use IBM Cloud virtual servers for software development tasks, both during development and production. They are great for development time due to their fast spin up times and the isolation they can offer (so that they don't mess up production). They are also great in production because they are highly scalable and have great network performance.
  • Scaling (as with any cloud provider)
  • Security
  • Performance
  • Not as good performance as bare metal
  • lack of documentation
  • User interface
  • cost
Based on my experience, here are some scenarios where IBM Cloud Virtual Servers is well suited for creating applications that require fast provisioning and high network performance and less well suited for things that require the maximum performance and control (for this i'd use a bare metal server)

We use IBM Cloud Virtual Servers to address several business problems that we face, such as the need for scalable computing resources, the requirement for secure data storage and access, and even the demand for high-performance computing. This service provides us with an easy-to-use platform for creating and managing virtual servers, which can be customized to meet the specific needs of our business. The main reason I use the Cloud Virtual Servers is that it helps me with the development and deployment of new applications, as well as the management of existing ones. I also use it to create virtual servers that can host our applications, providing us with the resources we need to meet the high demands of our customers and partnered Corporations.
  • Host Servers
  • Security of servers
  • Customizability
  • Reliable to stay running and always be available when needed
  • For new users that use the service, it may be confusing or difficult to navigate, which can make it challenging to perform certain tasks or access certain features so maybe a work around the UI to make it beginner-friendly could help a lot.
  • The cost of running the Virtual Servers can seem demanding for some workplaces that may want to utilize the servers but can't afford to do so.
One scenario that immediately came to my mind was large-scale data processing, IBM Cloud Virtual Servers is well-suited for organizations that require high-performance computing capabilities, particularly when processing large amounts of data. It can also be useful for companies or organizations that wish to migrate their workplace to the cloud and it may suite companies that have strict compliance requirements since the servers have robust security features.

We originally was using the servers for hosting docker containers and several VDI’s with no complaints. The speed and setup was amazing and a breeze. It’s now got to the point where I now use IBM servers to host my personal projects with no problems. I was even able to setup a DNS Adblock using one of the servers and now have my (personal) network directing the queries through there first with more privacy.
  • Speed
  • Ease of use
  • Support
  • The pricing
The support works we enough where we found out that we can reduce our cost from switching from a different provider. In the long run, anything we can save matters, and once everything was optimized, we clearly saw the difference. Another thing I liked was the catalog, giving access to deploy packages to the different servers.

My company made a decision to deploy a key part of our technology stack by making use of the IBM Cloud Virtual Servers. Our core requirement was to make use of two IBM Cloud Virtual Servers to host our functionality for social media and news collection and analysis. This functionality is offered as part our wider application and services a variety of commercial clients, to provide them with location specific and high relevance information concerning certain set subjects. We required the highest levels of availability and reliability from the IBM Virtual Cloud Servers.
  • Explaining the nature of the service.
  • Providing rapid access to the process of setting up the servers.
  • Testing of initialisation of individual servers.
  • Unfortunate absence of sufficient technical guidance to enable set up.
  • Very limited live support to help with deployment issues.
Our development team was unable to get the Docker Containers implemented and successfully running. We spent over four days on this task and made effort to source additional support and advice from the IBM Cloud Team. We have a modicum of assistance but we remained unable to get the Docker Containers working. We made a judgment that the amount of time and effort we would have to dedicate to having sufficient detailed technical confidence in our use of the IBM Cloud Virtual Servers was an overwhelming obstacle. Hence, a decision was made to cease the use of IBM Cloud Virtual Servers.

IBM Cloud Virtual Servers enable our company to quickly and easily create and manage virtual servers in the cloud. We can use them to run our applications, test new software, and scale our infrastructure as needed. The scope of our use case is to create and manage virtual servers, and this product helps us do that. The business problems addressed by IBM Cloud Virtual Servers are the time and cost to provision and manage cloud servers. This product's ability to quickly and easily create new virtual servers reduces the amount of time it takes to get our applications up and running. And the ability to manage servers from a single console helps reduce the cost of managing our infrastructure. Overall, IBM Cloud Virtual Servers help us save time and money, which enables us to focus on our core business.
  • IBM Cloud Virtual Servers provide an easy way to set up and manage virtual machines. It lets you provision servers instantly, scaling your computing capacity as needed. All of this happens within the IBM Cloud and it's managed by experts to ensure security and uptime.
  • Virtual servers can be used for a wide variety of purposes, from developing or testing new software applications to running critical business operations. The IBM Cloud has the scale and elasticity to support a wide variety of workloads and the security and reliability to ensure your data is always safe.
  • IT managers can select from a menu of images preconfigured with popular applications or machines running a customer's existing software. The self-service portal simplifies the deployment of virtual servers, storage, and networking to any user within a company—without requiring help from IT.
  • It would also be nice if there were more templates to choose from when creating a server. Right now there are only a few options, and we'd like to see more variety.
  • We'd like to see the ability to create server groups. This would make it easier to manage a large number of servers since we could do all of the updates and management tasks for them at once.
  • There doesn't seem to be a way to automatically install updates on all of the virtual servers. We have to go in and manually update each one, which can be time-consuming. It would be really nice if automatic updates can be done.
IBM Cloud Virtual Servers is well-suited for use when an organization requires the ability to create multiple infrastructure environments in a short period of time without having to manage hardware or software. On the other hand, it is not appropriate for use in scenarios that require a high level of security or compliance, as the infrastructure is hosted on shared hardware.

We use IBM Cloud Virtual Servers to provide testing and production VMs for teams within our software organization. Our main use case is the need for easy to deploy servers that have good availability and that are also easy for our DevOps team to configure to suit various testing and automated testing needs.
  • Fairly easy to deploy.
  • Good availability.
  • Flexible and easy to configure.
  • Cost.
  • Usability sometimes is a bit more complicated than it needs to be.
IBM Cloud Virtual Servers are well suited to cases where you need to be assured of availability and if there are various server configurations that are needed. We currently utilize these for some smaller software projects to provide test and some production environments, but not sure how well it would scale (cost-wise and usability-wise) if we were to move to it for the whole software organization.

We are in Deep Tech space ( or DeepLearning ). We use AI to create voice that will almost sound like human. So mostly, We use IBM's Virtual GPU servers for training and evaluating our deep-learning models.
  • On-demand pay feature, [because] GPU [is] costly. When they are shut down, they almost charge 0$
  • Bare-metal OS, No pre-install vendor software
  • Seeing the monthly pricing before creating VS
  • Having a market place for pre-defined images would be great (i.e DeepLearning with pytorch image)
  • It would be great if GPU drivers are installed during VS creating process (i.e i have find NVDIA driver and install it by myself, [which] takes a-lot of time)
  • While creating an VS. Extra HD space should be mounted automatically. Instead, [I have to] log in and mount it by myself.
I would really love if you can provide pre-installed images for OS. When i was setting-up my OS for Pytorch environment, I had to setup following things by myself: 1) Mounting extra space, 2) Finding and Installing NVDIA driver, [and] 3) Install[ing] pytorch and supporting software. This whole process took around 3-4 hours which [I belive] is a complete waste of time and money for me. I used to do my development on AWS. Perhaps [you] should look at their marketplace.

  • Effortless scalability
  • High SLA and very reliable
  • Good client APIs to scale on demand
  • User interface can be improved
  • Can always make more affordable
IBM Cloud Virtual Servers is the perfect solution for scaling compute in the IBM Cloud ecosystem. The machine configurations are very flexible and can scale as many nodes as needed to support the current load on the system. It is less appropriate if a more managed service is needed — IBM's Kubernetes offering would work well in this case.

We are using IBM virtual cloud server for the deployment of our web application over a high-speed and secured cloud environment. I like it most because they provide virtualized dedicated server. They are delivering the highest Uptime with great performance. Compute work of a large company can be performed with [these] virtual servers.
  • It provides virtualize dedicated server.
  • Easy customization and configuration of a virtual server.
  • Easy to deploy in the variety of configurations
  • High Availability
  • What I don't like very much is that sometimes it is difficult to find what you are looking for.
  • Complex user interface.
  • Price is quite high.
Based on my experience IBM Cloud virtual servers is well suited for developing applications and server hosting on various operating systems. The support which IBM provides is really impressive. They should bring up more Integrations and also These servers are quite expensive. thus these are the only thing that I dislike.
