IBM is well known organisation and its cloud services are well established. I am currently working in a Bank and our bank used IBM Power Virtual Server to scale the infrastructure according to the requirements. We also use it for Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning requirements as well. It is quite reliable, scalable and cost efficient solution.
  • IBM Power Virtual Server has one of the highest uptime and it makes this highly reliable.
  • It can handle high number of transactions. It can be easily scaled up or down according to the organisations requirements.
  • It is cost efficient as well. It has pay as you go model which helps to optimize use of ever penny spent.
  • Lack of set of developer tools like its competitors.
  • Its support needs to be improved.
  • Lack of developer community.
IBM Power Virtual Server is well suited for large organisations like Banks, Insurance Companies, Railways, Roadways, etc. I won't like to recommend it for the Startups with low budget, lower infrastructure requirements.

We use IBM Power Virtual Server to run our mission-critical applications. It is great for reliability and flexibility. We can run multiple LPARs on one physical server to get the best performance and make the best use of the resources.
  • Sharing of physical resources.
  • Performance and reliability.
  • Ability to move workloads from one physical server to another.
  • Better ability to monitor all the resources in a pool.
Due to its reliability, it is well-suited for mission-critical applications. It is also well suited for running multiple applications on a single server and fully utilizing the server's full capacity. However, it is not well suited for servers that require dedicated IO resources.

Our bank uses IBM Power Virtual Server to run our heavy data analytics workload for projects involving transaction analysis, risk monitoring, and prospecting. We've also used IBM Power Virtual Server in our development lifecycle for Dev and UAT environments to help with ad-hoc compute requirements during software development.
  • Scalability - easy to spin off more instances as required
  • Reliability - its critical for us in banking to have a 99.99% uptime SLA and IBM Power Virtual Server provides that
  • Virtualization - PowerVM helps us with isolation needs to separate data based on entitlements.
  • Limited tools and not as widely used compared to leading cloud providers
  • Cost can be prohibitive
  • Complexity - Managing the cluster requires specialized knowledge
  • Support needs to improve
  • Lack of Developer Community to discuss and resolve issues
IBM Power Virtual Server is well suited for projects that require heavy computing usage and complex data analytics. Also, we have certain periods of heavy usage during the day and IBM Power Virtual Server helps us to allocate our resources appropriately when needed - scaling during peak processing hours and helps us manage our costs better that way.

I use IBM Power Virtual Server to deploy and host high transaction applications for my company since it offers me exceptional security at every step of the way and also the desired robustness from highly confidential and complex applications.
It is a scalable, secure, reliable and cost-effective solution that provides the comfort of an ideal cloud hosting solution.
  • Handling highly transactional applications with great performance. Ou applications have thousands of transactions per minute and it almost never feels overwhelming, thanks to the scalability and resource optimization of the cloud.
  • Well thought pay as you go model to get the best out of the compute resources for every cent charged.
  • Advanced resource monitoring via IBM Instana Observability is extremely helpful for automated monitoring, alerting and troubleshooting a wide range of infrastructure issues.
  • Usability and learning efforts required for it can be simplified greatly.
  • Integration support range can be widened from currently limited options. Many of the popular services are still not supported for this cloud.
  • Mobile application/interface has a lot of room for improvement to make it more robust and user friendly.
Well suited and ideal for security critical and mission critical applications where performance, stability and availability are crucial. One of the best choices available for maintaining cost effective critical solutions.

Less suited to migrate from other popular public cloud services like AWS, Azure etc., due to broad learning curve for using the cloud services.

We use IBM Power Virtual Server to provide access and installation for recent AIX and Linux workloads in our complex hybrid cloud environment. We especially use it in our work that involves SAP and SAP HANA. We have homegrown applications we have introduced to the mix, and that is working very well.
  • The images and data we process and save through the system are easily retrievable.
  • The images and data we process and save through the system have never been corrupted.
  • Once our process is set for any of the software and systems we interact with through the IBM Power Virtual Server, they require very little, if any, maintenance other than period checkups.
  • Having a wider selection of software to work with would be welcome.
  • Training and education is daunting at first and could be simplified.
  • Much of the automation is wonderful after it is set up but getting started has a steep learning curve.
It is well suited for a scenario where inputs and outputs are known and have been carefully designed. It is suitable for situations where there are tremendous amounts of data to deal with. It is also suited well for supporting several different versions of applications and data, for example, in SAP and SAP HANA. It is not well suited for quick changes. It is not well suited for situations where tremendous amounts of data stored in differing formats need to be worked with. The overhead in those situations is very high. As for transferring data between legacy installations of applications and with various forms of data, the overhead for that work is likewise very high.

It's really helpful in terms of support to a service which we used for almost 7 months. It reduced the effort to run the workloads and while copying the data. Its AI is the major one where the decisions made it is really genuine and more efficient towards work. It's one of the best things I have ever seen from IBM. That's really awesome.
  • Usually it's fast when compared to other virtual power systems and low latency
  • Its accuracy and reliability makes it top notch
  • Its services and performance is pretty good
  • Sometimes it may get stuck due to more usage... It's in very rare cases and for a short time only... It's not a drawback but it may cause work disturbance.
It is more reliable, its accuracy is too good, and its performance is top-class performance. It is going be the one as competitive for all the virtual power systems and it's connectivity also seems good. It is also available for low cost, but it's good enough to have this much systems with more efficiency at lower cost. Small thing is that in very less cases it may stuck due to more usage like restless work that time it may cause disturbance to work.
