IBM Power System Virtual Server is being used internally as a software tool for cloud hosting implementations for long term and temporary IBMi implementations, As cloud hosting represents a vital component of a growing revenue-generating operation, having enterprise-class management software in place is not just a necessity, but a potential competitive differentiate. This product is also, sold, installed, and supported on end-user systems. This can be done in a one time project basis or in an ongoing Managed Service Provider (MSP) support model. This support can be both proactive and upon request. Once again, best of breed software is a component of a successful business model, that can transcend through the value chain.

  • Better utilization of IBM Power processors
  • Value to hosting business
  • Value to MSP business
IBM Power System Virtual Server exemplifies what enterprise users expect when purchasing systems management products. IBM customers have come to expect and in many ways are even a little "spoiled" in receiving. Not just does this software fulfill[s] the initial requirements, but a continual stream of fully integrated enhancements are available. Documentation and support are always availlable. Yes, there are always lower cost options. But from a long term investment perspective the value of this IBM product has remained solid.
Yes, although that is also indicative of the overall IBM Power systems value proposition. IBM systems have always been built to maintain high levels of uptime. IBM Power Virtual Server allows for more complex environments to be able to maintain this expected resiliency. As with most IBM products a strength is in providing pre notice of potential problems. The ability to proactively address potential problems before they negatively impact system application activities.
IBM Power System Virtual Server provides a consistent seamless system management viewpoint across the use partitions. It also provides the robust tools to accomplish the usability goals of a complex and multi faceted computing environment. The product allows for rapid error detection and correction. Online support tools are very helpful towards accomplishing these goals.
Yes, 7 x 24 Premium level support was purchased. In my opinion if a product provides a mission critical function, it is worth assuring that the product is always working at an optimum level.
No
Fortunately, there has never been a need for "exceptional" support. This is considered a good thing as the rock solid product and ongoing support have prevented any kind of disastrous situation.
As with most IBM products the ongoing support for IBM Power Virtual Server is solid and consistent. IBM provides a clear roadmap for receiving support of their products. Both voice and online response is offered. It is obvious that IBM has the internal systems and culture to maintain support functions. This starts from the initial support call to the problem analysis and continues through the problem resolution. Documentation and communication are consistent within this process.
