The point and click menu style interface makes it very easy to find the analyses you need. If anything is unclear a simple search of the help menu or a google search give immediate clarity. Analyses usually return output immediately and if there is an error, the error message explicitly spells out the problem so it is easy to fix.

IBM SPSS Statistics has a steep learning curve. Once you learn how to use it, things are much easier and make sense, but it can take a while to feel comfortable with it. It's also a memory-intensive software that can be slow to respond and crash on occasion, and recently we've had issues when doing simple tasks like relabeling variables, where everything you type immediately disappears until you click on the cell in a certain way and then it magically works again.

It does the job, but it is clunky compared to most newer and updated softwares. It would be nice if the interface was more friendly, but it gets the job done. One just has to do a bunch of research on how to do it.

I rate IBM SPSS's usability at 7 because it is easy to use once you get the hang of it, but there is a bit of a learning curve for beginner researchers like myself. However, with some practice and a bit of Googling you will be able to figure out the main functions of the program. More advanced statistical tests may take additional time to learn.

I have used SPSS for many years and I am comfortable using it. Without a little guidance, however, I would be unaware of some of the benefits that can be taken advantage of.

SPSS is beginner friendly and user-friendly for beginner analysts and simple statistical tests. It's "click and go" interface does take some learning, but overall this is much easier than other programs I have used and seen. Compared to SAS software, SPSS takes a great deal less familiarizing and it not a matter of learning a coding language like SAS and RStudio.

For people with research and coding backgrounds, it's easy enough to figure out on your own with some trial and error. For others, there are good tools in the help menu to walk new users through the processes step-by-step. Not all of the analyses are intuitive or easy to interpret, so you may have to use other online resources to help you use your results more effectively. Overall, it's not nearly as intimidating as other stats packages. I've seen a lot of people pick up basic SPSS skills relatively quickly with a little coaching from a mentor.
