The IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog is useful for data collection and storage within our company. It makes it simple to upload and access data when it is needed. We use this software for all of our data management needs. It is helpful to address issues with excessive amounts of data or needing to store documents for a specific amount of time.

The IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog is most well suited for large companies. With large companies storing data for a long amount of time, this can be helpful to allow all team members to find documents with ease. It would be less appropriate for storage that is deleted very often or does not needs to be saved for long amounts of time.

The IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog is a great amount of storage for the price. It is easily accessed by all users in the company. It provides great search features and clear pathways to locate documents. This is great for the team and our client when needing access to a specific document.

We use it to perform data discovery in various databases (Oracle, SAP, SQL, Cloud) and manage the corporate data catalog, in addition to applying personal data governance rules to comply with LGPD and GDPR. The tool contributed to the implementation of data governance policies and the data privacy program, mainly with the ease of discovering personal data.
  • Data discovery.
  • Technical Data Lineage.
  • Business Data Lineage.
  • Data .
  • Multiple Data Catalog Management.
  • Creation of Governance Rules.
  • Data Masking.
  • Data discovery performance.
  • Discovery of unstructured data.
  • Integration with Privacy Management API.
It's great for data discovery and analyzing the quality of that data, and it's great for managing that catalog with strong rules and policies. It has an easy policy management and data governance rules and has a very good graphic tool to show the integration between business terms and physical data not good for managing data privacy and mapping personal data handling processes
  • Data Discovery
  • Data Catalog
  • Rules and Policies Manager
  • Data Quality
  • Data Lineage
  • The negative note: is that it needs to have a very secure cloud infrastructure and with its data well defined for integration with other databases.
  • The positive point: allows for quick data discoveries aiding a quick implementation of privacy programs.
Adabas is a tool for managing Data Governance because an IBM tool has an advantage because it doesn't have the cloud and that makes integration much easier, it has the lowest price on the market and its performance in data discovery is faster than competitors.

Data Catalogue is still not a widely adopted concept particularly because of the maturity level of information technology as a concept in capital intensive industries. I can speak particularly for the Energy sector where there is a gradual shift towards managing data as a service. Efforts are being made to look at the holistic system capabilities and IBM Watson Knowledge Catalogue definitely made the cut.
  • Ready to use data catalog experience with years of IBM consulting experience is helpful.
  • Particularly helpful if the client is in the IBM ecosystem like IBM Maximo.
  • Effective asset data management ready to deploy tools.
  • I think an industry-specific data catalog service will be good.
  • Effective alignment of IBM consulting services and bringing in an Industry point of view will be great.
  • Effective reach out like roadshows, etc. will be good.
I think clients who are already on the IBM Ecosystem will immensely benefit from this tool. Also, it depends on the long term strategy of the organization. If the long term goal is to develop an Operations Business Intelligence Platform then tools provided by the IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog platform will be really good.
  • Too early to determine ROI.
  • I have had cases where IBM Watson has been offered with a suite of services
  • With strengths in enterprise asset management, it has a lot of potential to be the platform of choice.
Azure is definitely a strong competition considering that it has machine learning capabilities too.
