Implementation was very easy - practically turn-key. There are two hurdles that need to be planned for: many IT departments block video usage on the network, so permission must be given for Ustream use; each time a user wishes to watch content they must re-submit their email and use a new key, which can be confusing if not communicated.

Not really. It took a bit, and some questions I asked weren't readily answered. So, it took some time to get the answers, and for my team to customize some of the advanced features we were looking for.

The main thing I can think of again, is to let our customers know we are here. The only way we can do that is if they can actually find us easily without having to get a specific link from us. We are limited as to our audience because of this issue.

The implementation is a strength of IBM Cloud Video. Its ease of use and non-technical knowledge makes implementation very easy. Navigating the social media add-ons requires some testing for a full white-label experience. Requesting features and customizations are fairly seamless in comparison to other platforms. I feel IBM Cloud Video is comparable with other lead streaming platforms.

I think they should focus on a specific area in the broadcasting of videos, which is the live part. As Facebook and Youtube are introducing their live recordings/videos, Ustream should focus on it and become the "best in town" for live broadcasting. One of the most appreciated features is the easiness of use of its app and the connection to the regular channel.

It's a good solution for reliability but needs better options for the embedded window, particularly for mobile, and could be a better value for small to medium broadcasters. I'd also like to see more features. The ability to have multiple channels (different viewing windows targeted to different audiences) is a nice feature.

Implementation was easy for us. Very quick and simple. As long as your hardware works and you make sure to set your video to the correct frame rate you should be pretty plug and play!

We use an external hardware video encoder made be Teradek (specifically the cube 600 series). That device is extremely easy and ustream has been accommodating and easy to work with.

Implementing IBM Cloud Video is a breeze. It works right every time. We typically embed it into our site, getting the code, dropping it in and being live takes a matter of minutes. The consistent channel URL is so superior to several other live video platforms that are in use today. Implementing this is something our entire tech team is able to handle, so we don't have to stress over having the right technical staff at a specific location.

Ustream is easy to implement. It takes any stream we have thrown its way and distributed it quickly and with quality. When talking to others that are pursuing live stream implementations, I often remind them that the technology used to distribute your live stream is less important than the quality of the content you are distributing. Taking care to use the right camera equipment, the proper encoder, and quality sound gear will result in a high-quality stream that will allow the strength of the Ustream CDN to shine.

Implementation is tough because there are so many different ways clients are expecting content to appear on their platforms. Ustream video embeds have been a good solution in areas where direct integrations are not available. But, this is an area for improvement in the case of LMS and marketing integrations. On the broadcast side, embed codes work well because we use them with CMS systems that provide their own library and user management.

We are unique in the fact that we consistently have to offer high-accuracy live captioning through HTML5. They were able to upgrade our players remotely and effortlessly transition to a new HTML5 player that supports this.

Broadcast-only; no talk-back. There are multi-site broadcast vendors at significantly higher cost if this is what you seek.

Implementation is easy as for a service such as this. Sign up for an account with your Administrator first. The admin account can build out a list of channels to stream content to, add users to be able to collaborate and manage channels. Streaming to channels is the same as most all RTMP encoders: get the streaming endpoint URL and the streaming key.

With any technology in today's world, it is important to keep up with the changes to the Ustream platform. There are updates that happen to the channels and the matrix in the service that sometimes require adjustments to the way you are doing things.

What is IBM Watson Media's Video Streaming?

IBM Watson Media (formerly IBM Cloud Video) provides an enterprise video solution, powered by Watson AI, for creating, storing, managing, broadcasting and measuring the impact of live and recorded video.

There are two editions:

  • IBM Enterprise Video Streaming (private or internal corporate communications)
  • IBM Video Streaming (external events and monetized video streaming)

Both editions include storage, event support, custom branding, content management, multi-user accounts, and real-time analytics. Both are powered by IBM Watson AI for automatic speech to text conversion and automated closed captioning.

IBM Enterprise Video Streaming is an internal video solution that secures video assets for employee use (typically access via single sign-on/corporate directories). Individual viewer tracking measures engagement on a per video or viewer basis. This solution is often used in conjunction with IBM's Enterprise Content Delivery Network (ECDN) offering which does stream splitting and edge caching to help protect the corporate network from the strain of video going across the network.

IBM Video Streaming, an external video solution with optional monetization option, powers video streaming for large external audiences. It offers scalability for massive viewership using the SD-CDN, a software defined content delivery network built with QoS (Quality of Service) in mind to reliably deliver video.
