I was not present at my organization for the selection process. I was, however, here for the launch.

Comparing iDashboards to the other products I have used, I find iDashboards the easiest of them to use, and that it makes the nicer dashboards. The selections available (report type, chart type, etc.) are all available only in iDashboards.

We have Tableau for more BI things, and we utilize this solely for information, reports, and what not. The visual aspect of Tableu is more difficult to create from a dashboard perspective, and in order to deploy this to other users, it requires an additional purchase of a server or licenses. Idashboards, on the other hand, is more flexible and is available on the web for users to see at anytime. While the creation of charts and reports in idashboards is a bit more cumbersome than Tableau, both serve the purpose for what we need.

Looked at the various dashboard products available for the higher education market. There were many to choose from, but most were far beyond the college's limited budget. Knowing there was no way the college could spend hundreds of thousands of dollars, the college settled on iDashboards as an efficient tool for monitoring higher education key performance indicators such as enrollment, accreditation, effectiveness, institutional research, financials and departmental metrics.

  • Argos
Argos is a report writing tool which also includes the ability to construct dashboards. While Argos does have more robust features relevant to object programming and analytics (e.g. creation of form elements, event specific triggers, and OLAP cubes), it has a steep learning curve. The immediate usability of iDashboards has resulted in a decreased use of the Argos software for many departments at our organization.
