  • Since IIS is relatively easy to setup and maintain it reduces operational costs.
  • Security patches come down as part of routine Microsoft updates, so keeping up to date is easy.
  • Integration with Azure devops means deploying applications is rolled out via CICD very easy to manage.

  • Allowing us to internally host our monitoring websites allows quick access to data that can be quite hidden, saving developer time.
  • It was inexpensive compared to more bulky solutions saving upfront cost.
  • It’s easy to install and enable allowing more developer savings.

  • Speed of development. You don't need to be an expert to expose your website through some DNS
  • Robust, there has never been any downtime because of IIS itself.
  • The ease of use can have (and has had) some negative impact because it's too easy to implement something, and then forget. When a server is taken down, those unthoughtful implementations come to light the hard way.

  • We have been able to quickly setup and deploy applications using IIS which has allowed the business to engage customers more quickly.
  • IIS has failed us at times when an issue occurs and the default error messaging has not been clear which caused us to look for issues in the wrong place.
  • Creating a separate app pool for each web site, which is default in IIS, saved us from causing the entire server to crash when memory leaks occurred.

  • Our entire business platform runs on this so it has been somewhat pivotal. This was born out of being more familiar with a Microsoft tech stack, but it hasn't limited us or caused unexpected issues.
  • It can be a bit of a minefield of options buried in the GUI so finding stuff can be a little challenging, especially if once set up you kind of forget about it (which is good as once it's up and running it usually causes little bother).
  • There is so much documentation or other people that have gone through the same things that you are that there is always some supporting material or answer to the occasional problem to be found online.

  • The security risk is greater in the case of public facing websites, which impacts the trustworthiness of the solution offered.
  • Relatively easy installation boosted productivity for us.
  • Tracking down the root cause of a problem takes a long time, which increases the cost and is a very tedious process.

  • As a service offered on any version of Windows, IIS is a great, relatively free (with the cost of Windows) option to host web applications without needing extensive effort or training.

  • IIS is enabling us to rapidly deploy and maintain new products for our staff and customers. It is difficult to assign an ROI on such efforts, but we have seen improvements in our Net Promoter Scores - both internally and externally - as a result of these efforts.

  • Low cost of installation, as it is already included with Microsoft Server
  • Ease of installation and maintenance, with few to no ongoing issues
  • Can be difficult to configure on per-application basis, for complex web service access and security needs, so must account for extra time in deployment

  • It has provided a free platform to host several of our in house developed applications.
  • We have also had to spend a lot of time moving from 6 to 7.5 with code changes that were built into the latest releases.
  • When it comes to boxed software we typically choose to load the application on IIS, when given the choice, due to its ease of install and mostly hassle free deployment.
  • We have had some difficulty tracking down problems in the past but the newer versions seem to help out more with troubleshooting.

  • Microsoft IIS does lend itself to quick application integration as it is simple to install and get running, this leads to quick project turn-around time and often less money spent up-front in deploying new solutions.
  • I have found in some cases that the initial speed to delivery is compromised by the need to meticulously tune IIS to achieve the desired performance.
  • If you have an enterprise contract, Microsoft customer service for IIS is acceptable.

  • Increased setup time helped us deploy our applications faster than some of the other offerings.
  • Easier to manage without having to have employees learn a new server OS and Server App.

  • I probably owe my career to IIS as it provided the best option for learning web programming after college. Netscape Enterprise was cost prohibitive for a newly graduated student. HTTPD was difficult to "throw up" on a server at home (at the time). IIS was an easy install on Windows 3.5 and NT 4..
